Mayer finished the season at High-A Greenville by going 14-for-31 (.452) with a homer, a steal and a 7:7 BB:K through his final eight games. Overall, he batted .265/.379/.449 with four homers in 25 games following his promotion. Mayer put together a strong first full pro season between Greenville and Single-A Salem, compiling 13 homers and 17 steals with an .887 OPS across 91 contests. Still just 19 years old, the 2021 draft's No. 4 pick has the look of a future franchise shortstop for Boston, but he's still at least a couple years from the big leagues.... See More ... See Less

Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Headed to High-A
Red Sox farm director Brian Abraham confirmed Monday that Mayer has been promoted from Single-A Salem to High-A Greenville, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. Boston will be moving two of its top selections from the 2020 and 2021 draft classes to Greenville, as power-hitting third baseman Blaze Jordan will also be making the jump from Salem. Mayer, a 19-year-old shortstop who was the No. 4 overall selection in 2021, received the promotion after slashing .286/.406/.504 with nine home runs and 16 stolen bases to go with a 16.8 percent walk rate across 308 plate appearances for Salem.... Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Overcomes back injury
Mayer (back) went 3-for-5 with a home run, two walks and a stolen base in two games for Single-A Salem since he exited Sunday's game against Delmarva. Mayer only missed one contest on account of low-back tightness and hasn't missed a beat upon returning to action. For the season, the 19-year-old shortstop is slashing .294/.390/.528 with eight home runs and 13 stolen bases in 231 plate appearances for Salem.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Dealing with low-back tightness
Mayer was removed from the first game of a doubleheader at Single-A Salem due to low-back tightness, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports. Mayer isn't in the lineup for the second game of Sunday's twin bill, but the team is calling his removal from the matinee a precautionary measure. The 19-year-old should tentatively be considered day-to-day.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Returns from IL
Mayer (wrist) returned from the injured list and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, an RBI and a run scored for Single-A Salem on Monday. Mayer had undergone testing for a sprained wrist and was found to have no significant damage. Monday's game was his first action since May 19. Mayer is slashing .333/.391/.513 over 87 plate appearance (18 games) for Salem.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Placed on injured list
Mayer (wrist) was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list Sunday, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reports. Mayer dealt with a wrist injury for several weeks in late April and early May, but he recently returned to the field and went 6-for-18 with four doubles, three RBI and a stolen base. The 19-year-old's injury hasn't increased in severity, but he'll land on the IL and undergo further testing since the issue hasn't gone away. It's not yet clear when Mayer will be able to return to game action.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Returns with three doubles
Mayer (wrist) started at shortstop and went 3-for-6 with three doubles and two RBI on Sunday in Single-A Salem's 8-7 loss to Delmarva. Mayer missed approximately two-and-a-half weeks when his sore right wrist first cropped up in late April, but his latest aggravation of the injury didn't cause nearly as long of an absence. He was out of the lineup for four days before returning to action Sunday and providing a season-high three extra-base hits. Assuming he experienced no setbacks coming out of Sunday's contest, Mayer should be capable of handling an everyday role at Salem moving forward.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Day-to-day with wrist issue
Mayer continues to deal with right wrist soreness and will miss a fourth consecutive game for Single-A Salem on Saturday, Steve Hewitt of the Boston Herald reports. It sounds like he is day-to-day and could get back in the lineup Sunday, per Alex Speier of The Boston Globe. Mayer returned to action May 10 after missing a little over two weeks, but he has not played in a game since then. The top prospect has a 37.2 percent strikeout rate over his last 39 at-bats, which will be something to monitor once he is healthy.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Suits up Monday at Single-A
Mayer (wrist) served as Single-A Salem's designated hitter in Tuesday's 1-0 win over Delmarva and went 1-for-4 with his fourth stolen base of the season. Mayer was sidelined for about two and a half weeks at Salem due to a sore right wrist before he was cleared to return to action Monday. Though he was eased back into the mix as a DH on Monday, it shouldn't be long before he's cleared to resume playing shortstop.... See More ... See Less -
Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Gets brief spring taste of majors
Mayer picked up five plate appearances for the Red Sox this spring, going 0-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts. He's 19 and has never played above rookie ball, so no one expected Mayer to put up numbers in spring training. Last year's No. 4 overall draft pick, he's expected to open 2022 in Low-A, and it'll be worth watching to see whether he can maintain last season's impressive walk rate (14 percent) while getting to his power more often in game action.... Red Sox's Marcelo Mayer: Swats first pro homer
Mayer went 2-for-6 with a home run, four RBI and an additional run scored for the Florida Complex League Red Sox on Saturday. Mayer, Boston's first-round pick in the 2021 draft, launched his first professional home run, a three-run job. The shortstop is batting .214/.313/.357 with one home run, one double, five RBI and five runs over seven games in the FCL.... See More ... See Less -

Mayer went 0-for-1 with three walks for the FCL Red Sox on Thursday. Mayer made his professional debut in the Florida Complex League with walks in his first three plate appearances before a groundout in his final at-bat. Mayer is Boston's first-round pick (third overall) in the 2021 draft. The left-handed hitting shortstop belted 14 home runs and batted .392 (38-for-97) in 34 games during his final year with Eastlake High School in California.... See More ... See Less
