  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Set to start Wednesday

Jobe is scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Astros, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Jobe last took the mound April 18 versus Kansas City, so it'll end up being 12 days between starts for the right-hander. There's been no indication he's dealing with an injury, so the Tigers may simply be incorporating some in-season workload management with the 22-year-old rookie. Jobe has pitched well through four starts this year with a 2.70 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 14:10 K:BB across 20 innings.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Collects second win

Jobe (2-0) earned the win against the Royals on Friday, allowing one earned run on five hits and two walks while striking out five batters across five innings. Back-to-back doubles from Bobby Witt and Vinnie Pasquantino in the first inning put Jobe in an early 1-0 hole, but he only allowed another three hits over the next four frames while his offense helped him out by putting up five runs on Royals ace Cole Ragans. After a rough start to the season, the 22-year-old Jobe has now allowed one run over 11 innings while collecting back-to-back wins across his last two starts. He'll have plenty of momentum heading into his next outing, which is tentatively scheduled for next Friday against Baltimore.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Issues three walks in no-decision

Jobe did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 4-3 win against the White Sox, pitching five innings while allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks. He struck out four. The rookie right-hander looked sharper in this 86-pitch outing but generated just six whiffs against a subpar Chicago lineup. Jobe managed to limit hard contact, as all four hits yielded were singles, but the walks are looking problematic to start the season for the 22-year-old. Over his first nine innings, Jobe has a 5.00 ERA and 1.56 WHIP with a 7:7 K:BB. He is currently scheduled to make his next start against the Twins in Minnesota next weekend.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Sharper in second spring start

Jobe allowed one run on two hits across three innings in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates. He struck out three. Jobe was fine in his spring debut Tuesday, allowing two runs over two innings while striking out one, but he was a bit better Sunday as he dialed up the strikeouts and allowed only one run on a solo homer. The 22-year-old righty appears to be on track to earn a rotation spot out of camp, and while there may be some ups and downs during his first full MLB campaign, Jobe does offer considerable upside on the mound.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Allows two runs in spring debut

Jobe allowed two runs on a hit and a walk across two innings in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles. He struck out one. Making his spring debut, Jobe allowed a two-run home run to Heston Kjerstad but otherwise managed to navigate a tough Baltimore lineup playing plenty of regulars. The 22-year-old righty made his brief MLB debut toward the end of the 2024 regular season and is now hoping to make Detroit's 2025 rotation right out of camp. Jobe stands a good chance to do just that if he has a productive spring, which makes the top prospect a popular breakout candidate heading into the season.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Adds two pitches to repertoire

Jobe added a curveball and a two-seam fastball to his pitch mix during the offseason with the hope of improving his strikeout rate in 2025, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. The 22-year-old righty is hoping to make use of a six-pitch repertoire during the upcoming season, as he was already throwing a four-seam fastball, a cutter, a changeup and a sweeper. Though he reached the big leagues in September and earned a spot in the Tigers' postseason bullpen, Jobe saw his strikeout rate fall to 25.6 percent over 91.2 innings across three minor-league stops in 2024, down all the way from 32.6 percent during the 2023 season. Jobe noted he particularly struggled with missing bats on two-strike counts, and he's hoping that adding more diversity to his arsenal will aid him in putting more batters away. After making his MLB debut as a reliever, Jobe will get the chance to compete for a rotation spot with Detroit in spring training and is expecting to throw at least 130 innings in his rookie campaign.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Officially added to roster

The Tigers selected Jobe's contract from Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday. One of the top pitching prospects in the game, Jobe has collected a 2.36 ERA and 96:45 K:BB over 91.2 innings covering 21 starts across three minor-league levels in 2024. The plan is to use Jobe in the bullpen for the time being, with bulk relief being a possibility given how often the Tigers have been using openers.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Headed to big leagues

The Tigers will select Jobe's contract from Triple-A Toledo prior to Tuesday's game against the Rays. Per Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic, Jobe is expected to pitch out of the Detroit bullpen during his first stint in the big leagues. Arguably the top pitching prospect in baseball, Jobe has posted a 2.36 ERA and 96:45 K:BB over 91.2 innings covering 21 starts across three minor-league levels in 2024. Shelby Miller will be designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Vaults to Triple-A

The Tigers promoted Jobe from Double-A Erie to Triple-A Toledo on Saturday. Jobe will likely get two or three more starts under his belt at the Triple-A level this season with the hope of making enough of an impression down the stretch to merit consideration for a spot in Detroit's 2025 Opening Day rotation. Though he missed nearly six weeks in May and June due to a hamstring injury, the 2024 campaign has been a successful one thus far for Jobe, who turned in a sparkling 1.95 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 81:38 K:BB across 73.2 innings with Erie.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Walk rate up at Double-A

Jobe has walked nine batters and struck out eight while registering a 3.72 ERA and 1.97 WHIP in his last two starts for Double-A Erie. It's a surprising stretch for Jobe, as he'd walked 11 batters over his previous nine starts (36 innings). The Tigers could maintain Jobe's rookie eligibility for 2025 (to try for a prospect promotion incentive draft pick) by waiting until at least Aug. 16 to promote him while keeping him under 50 innings. However, given that he's still at Double-A and coming off two of his worst starts of the season, there's a chance he's not up at all this season.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Ready for rehab start

Jobe (hamstring) will make a rehab start with High-A Michigan on Tuesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Jobe has been sidelined since early May with a left hamstring strain but has progressed to the point that he is ready to test things out in a game setting. The top prospect will eventually return to Double-A Erie, where he held a 2.16 ERA and 24:10 K:BB in 16.2 innings prior to suffering the injury.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Lands on Double-A IL

Jobe was placed on the 7-day injured list at Double-A Erie on Thursday with a left hamstring strain. Jobe had to exit Wednesday's start with the injury and now will be forced to the sideline for a bit. The top prospect has put up a 2.16 ERA and 24:10 K:BB over 16.2 innings covering five starts this season with Erie. Jobe, 21, could push to debut with the Tigers this year, but he's facing workload limitations as he has yet to reach 80 innings in a professional season.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Exits start with apparent leg injury

Jobe was removed in the fourth inning of his start Wednesday with Double-A Erie due to an apparent left leg injury, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. According to Beck, Jobe was removed in the middle of an at-bat after he was spotted flexing his left leg and grabbing around his hamstring following a pitch. The Tigers should provide more details on the nature of his injury in the days to come. One of the organization's top pitching prospects, Jobe had posted a 2.63 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 19:9 K:BB in 13.2 innings over his first four starts prior to Wednesday.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Reassigned to minor-league camp

The Tigers reassigned Jobe to minor-league camp Friday. The move comes as no surprise, as Jobe was never a likely bet to make Detroit's Opening Day roster with just once appearance above High-A under his belt. However, the 21-year-old could make his MLB debut sometime in 2024 with a strong showing in the upper minors.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Invited to big-league camp

The Tigers announced Wednesday that Jobe received an invitation to major-league spring training. Fellow top prospects Jace Jung and Ty Madden, among others, will join Jobe in big-league camp. Jobe, 21, was dominant across four minor-league levels in 2023, posting a 2.81 ERA and 84:6 K:BB over 64 innings. The young right-hander has a relatively limited track record in pro ball in part due to injury, but he could push to debut in 2024 if things break right.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Assigned to High-A

Jobe was promoted to High-A West Michigan on Tuesday after striking out seven in 3.2 innings in his final start for Single-A Lakeland. His most recent outing was one of Jobe's very best as a pro, as he showcased the type of high-end stuff that led the Tigers to select him third overall in the 2021 MLB Draft. With so many prominent pitching prospects graduating to the majors this season, the path is clear for Jobe to establish himself as one of the top arms in the minors over the final weeks of the minor-league season.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Settles at Single-A

High-A West Michigan activated Jobe (back) from its 7-day injured list Saturday and assigned him to Single-A Lakeland. Lakeland is likely just a temporary stop for Jobe, who had been conducting his rehab assignment in the Florida State League after opening the season on the IL while he recovered from lumbar spine inflammation. Jobe has been sharp over his six appearances at Lakeland, covering 16 innings while posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 20:3 K:BB. He'll likely be cleared to make his 2023 debut at West Michigan in the coming weeks.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Rehab moves to Single-A

Jobe (lumbar spine inflammation) will make a rehab start for Single-A Lakeland on Thursday, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports. He struck out four in two scoreless innings June 17 in the Florida Complex League. Jobe could come off the injured list for High-A West Michigan if Thursday's start goes well. He is a couple years away from the big leagues.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Facing hitters again

The Tigers announced Wednesday that Jobe (back) has resumed facing hitters in live batting practice at Single-A Lakeland, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Jobe has been recovering from lumbar spine inflammation all season, but now that he's facing hitters again, he looks to be on the cusp of making his 2023 debut. Before he joins the High-A West Michigan rotation, the Tigers may have Jobe make a handful of rehab appearances with Lakeland or with their rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate.

  • Tigers' Jackson Jobe: Resumes throwing

Jobe (back) is in the middle of the long-toss portion of his throwing program, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Jobe was diagnosed with lumbar spine inflammation back in mid-March and is expected to miss at least half of the season. The 20-year-old is a top-100 prospect but has a lot of catching up to do to get back on track.
