Franklin Perez: Released by Detroit
Perez was released by the Tigers on Thursday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Perez at one point ranked as a consensus top-100 prospect, but he's battled injuries and ineffectiveness over the last handful of seasons. The 25-year-old right-hander posted a 6.89 ERA with 12 walks and seven strikeouts in 15.2 innings of relief this summer between the rookie-level Florida Complex League and Low-A Lakeland.

Tigers' Franklin Perez: Rehabbing in FCL
Perez (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with the Tigers' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate June 10 and has given up 11 earned runs on seven hits and nine walks across 6.2 innings through his first three outings.
Given his poor results thus far, Perez will likely need to right the ship over the course of several more FCL appearances before eventually settling at one of the Tigers' higher-level affiliates. Perez has been sidelined all season while recovering from the right shoulder surgery he required last May.

Tigers' Franklin Perez: Not ready for spring
Perez (shoulder) was spotted rehabbing at the Tigers' facility in Lakeland, Fla. on Wednesday but he isn't expected to participate at any point during spring training, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Formerly one of the top pitching prospects in the organization, Perez's career has been derailed by a series of shoulder injuries in recent seasons. Detroit removed Perez from the 40-man roster last May and released him after another setback with his right shoulder prompted him to undergo surgery, but he was re-signed on a minor-league pact shortly thereafter. The 24-year-old hasn't experienced any apparent setbacks since undergoing surgery, but he likely won't be ready to make his 2022 debut in the minors until the mid-to-late summer.

Tigers' Franklin Perez: Rejoins Tigers organization
Perez (shoulder) re-signed with the Tigers on a minor-league deal Wednesday and was placed on the 60-day injured list at High-A West Michigan, Emily Waldon of The Athletic reports.
Detroit removed Perez from its 40-man roster and released him a week ago after he underwent season-ending surgery on his right shoulder. As expected, the 23-year-old went unclaimed off waivers, so he's elected to re-sign with the organization as he begins the long recovery process from surgery. At this stage, the Tigers likely have few expectations about Perez being part of their long-term plans, even though he was once one of their more promising pitching prospects.

The Tigers placed Perez (shoulder) on unconditional release waivers Wednesday.
Perez will lose his spot on the 40-man roster and in the organization entirely after he underwent season-ending right shoulder surgery Wednesday. One of the key prospects the Tigers acquired in the August 2017 trade that sent Justin Verlander to Houston, the 23-year-old never reached the big leagues for Detroit while contending with a slew of arm injuries in recent years. Unless he's willing to re-sign with the Tigers on another minor-league deal once he clears waivers, Perez will look to find an opportunity in another organization in 2022.
