The second baseman started 2024 hot, so it's not surprising he's cooled off a bit. Gimenez is slashing .291/.356/.380 with three steals, 13 RBI, 14 runs scored, five doubles and a triple over 91 plate appearances, but he's yet to hit a home run this season.

The second baseman is batting .326 with no home runs, seven RBI, 10 runs scored, two steals, five doubles and a triple. He has batted second against right-handed pitchers, and with Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor behind him in the order, Gimenez is in position to score a lot of runs if he can continue to get on base.

Gimenez started slow at the plate in spring training but got on track quickly, ending the Cactus League slate hitting. 340 (16-for-47) over 18 contests. He's carried it over into the early stages of the regular season, going 4-for-6 with three RBI and three runs scored. He was also caught stealing Friday on his first attempt of the season after going 30-for-36 on the basepaths in 2023. Gimenez hit .251 with a .713 OPS last season, so he's looking for a bounce-back campaign.

The second baseman is not in danger of losing his starting role -- Gabriel Arias and Brayan Rocchio are competing for the shortstop job, and most of the other major-league ready infielders in camp are likely to be utility options. Gimenez hit an okay .251 with 15 home runs, 62 RBI, 76 runs scored and 30 stolen bases over 153 contests last year. His OPS dropped from .837 in 2022 to .713 last year, but at 25 years old, a rebound campaign is plausible.
