Cimber gave up a hit and a walk in a scoreless ninth inning during Tuesday's rout of the Rays.
It wouldn't have been possible to find a lower-leverage spot for Cimber in his return from the injured list -- the Jays were up 20-1 when he took the mound -- but the appearance was still a success as he tossed nine of 14 pitches for strikes, and the one hit he allowed came when Christian Bethancourt fought off a fastball above the strike zone and slapped it the other way for a single. Cimber looked good early in the season before being shut down due to back issues, and if he stays healthy the sidearming right-hander should be a key part of the middle-inning bridge to closer Jordan Romano.

Right-hander Nate Pearson was summoned from Triple-A Buffalo to replace Cimber on the 26-man active roster and in the Toronto bullpen. Cimber opened the season with four scoreless innings and scooped up a save across his first four appearances, but he's logged a 7.50 ERA and 1.67 WHIP over his subsequent seven relief outings. He took advantage of a rare save chance, as Jordan Romano was unavailable after pitching each of the last two days. Cimber signed a one-year, $3.15 million contract with Toronto on Friday to avoid arbitration, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
In his first full season with the Blue Jays, Cimber put up a 2.80 ERA and 1.12 WHIP through 70.2 innings out of the bullpen, earning 20 holds and four saves in the process. His impressive stats were more than enough to warrant a healthy raise for the 32-year-old righty, who will most likely serve as a setup man in 2023.

Cimber (10-5) earned the win in Wednesday's 3-2 extra-inning victory over the Red Sox. He allowed one hit in a scoreless inning without recording a strikeout.
Cimber had little trouble in the ninth inning, retiring the Red Sox on just eight pitches to send the game to extras. The Blue Jays would end up winning after George Springer hit a double to score Jackie Bradley in the 10th. Amazingly, the reliever now has 10 wins on the season to go along with four saves and 13 holds.

Cimber had no trouble with the middle of the Rays' lineup and needed just 10 pitches to close out the game. It was his fourth save of the season and first since May 17. Cimber was once again called on to finish Tuesday's win and he retired the Mariners in order for a 1-2-3 ninth inning and his second save in as many days. Jordan Romano (illness) is expected to return soon, but in the meantime, the 31-year-old Cimber has been holding down the final frame and is up to three saves on the year. He has now pitched 3.2 no-hit innings over his last four appearances, surrendering two walks while striking out three. Cimber's 2.20 ERA and 0.81 WHIP over 15.1 innings this season both represent career bests for the right-hander.

Cimber stepped into the ninth inning role in Romano's absence and maintained a one-run lead to earn his first save of the season. He surrendered a leadoff single, but struck out the next batter he faced before inducing a double play to end the game. Cimber has been excellent early on in the campaign, maintaining a 2.25 ERA with a 6:0 K:BB while also picking up three holds across eight innings. While he may pick up saves at random points in the season, Cimber is not a candidate for the closer role so long as Romano remains healthy.

Starter Ross Stripling only lasted four innings, and Cimber was judged to be the most effective of the Blue Jays' relievers even though he allowed an inherited runner to score after entering the game with two on and one out in the sixth inning. Cimber has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of the abbreviated spring training, but his opportunities to vulture wins in this fashion could dry up quickly over the next week or two. He owns a 1.69 ERA, 0.38 WHIP and 4:0 K:BB through 5.1 innings this season.

One day after Charlie Montoyo said Cimber could see more save chances, the Blue Jays' manager sent the right-hander out to begin the eighth inning in the final leg of Saturday's double-header. With ghost runner Franchy Cordero lurking behind him, Cimber gave up a base hit to Jonathan Arauz that cashed Cordero and gave Boston a lead they'd never relinquish. This is only the second run that the submariner has allowed in 15 appearances with the Blue Jays this season.
