Astros' Jose Urquidy: Throwing from 90 feet
Astros manager Dusty Baker said Tuesday that Urquidy (shoulder) is throwing from 90 feet, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Urquidy began throwing on flat ground Friday, and Tuesday was another sign of progress. Still, the 28-year-old righty will need to be built back up gradually and figures to be out for another month or so. Urquidy landed on the injured list May 1 due to right shoulder inflammation.

Astros' Jose Urquidy: Throws from flat ground
Astros manager Dusty Baker told reporters Friday that Urquidy (shoulder) has begun throwing on flat ground, Julia Morales of AT&T SportsNet Southwest reports.
Baker noted that Urquidy will still have to build his arm back up, but he also mentioned that the right-hander has dealt with shoulder inflammation in the past. After getting shut down in late April, Urquidy could need a lengthy rehab assignment, but it's possible the right-hander will be able to return to the Houston rotation right around the All-Star break.

Astros' Jose Urquidy: Nearly ready to resume throwing
Urquidy (shoulder) said he hopes to resume throwing next week, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Urquidy has been stuck in shutdown mode since going on the injured list at the beginning of May due to right shoulder discomfort. Imaging scans showed only inflammation, but the expectation is that the 28-year-old won't be ready to return to the Astros' starting rotation until sometime in July. There will be more clarity on the situation once Urquidy picks up a baseball again.

Astros' Jose Urquidy: Headed for long-term absence
Astros general manager Dana Brown said Sunday that Urquidy (shoulder) has a chance to return from the 15-day injured list "somewhere around the All-Star break," Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Though the injury that landed Urquidy on the shelf this past Monday has been labeled as right forearm inflammation, it's apparent that he's dealing with something more significant than minor swelling. Manager Dusty Baker already noted that Urquidy won't be cleared to throw for a while, and Brown's comments suggest that the Astros are preparing for the right-hander to miss at least two months due to the injury. Given that Urquidy had pitched to a 5.20 ERA and 1.55 WHIP over his six starts prior to landing on the IL and is now facing a long-term absence, he likely won't be worth stashing in the majority of formats. With Luis Garcia (elbow) scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery in the near future, both J.P. France and Brandon Bielak should have long leashes for spots in the Houston rotation until Lance McCullers (elbow) is cleared to return from the 15-day IL, possibly in late May or early June.

Astros' Jose Urquidy: Placed on injured list
Houston placed Urquidy on the 15-day injured list Monday with right shoulder discomfort.
The Astros haven't revealed the results of the MRI that Urquidy underwent after he exited his start in Sunday's win over the Phillies after throwing 83 pitches, but the team apparently wasn't convinced that the right-hander would make a full recovery from the shoulder issue in advance of his next turn through the rotation. Thanks to an off day Thursday, the Astros will be able to get by with a four-man rotation until May 9. Right-hander Brandon Bielak was called up from Triple-A Sugar Land in a corresponding move and should be able to cover multiple innings out of the bullpen.

Astros' Jose Urquidy: Scans show shoulder inflammation
Urquidy's MRI on Monday revealed inflammation in his right shoulder, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.
The Astros placed Urquidy on the 15-day injured list earlier in the day after he left Sunday's start early with right shoulder discomfort. Manager Dusty Baker stated Monday that the right-hander will be shut down from throwing for "a while," per Lerner. A timetable for Urquidy's return has yet to be established, though it sounds as though he'll need longer than the 15-day minimum.

Astros' Jose Urquidy: MRI coming Monday
Urquidy is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Monday after he exited Sunday's 4-3 win over the Phillies with a sore right shoulder, Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston reports.
Urquidy captured the win and struck out three while allowing two earned runs on three hits and one walk across 5.1 innings before being lifted from the contest after experiencing pain in the back of his right shoulder. Though the right-hander did some range-of-motion work without issue after exiting the start, the MRI will shed more light on the extent of his injury. Houston has an off day on tap Thursday, so if Urquidy's injury isn't too significant but he still needs more time off between starts, the team could get by with a four-man rotation until a fifth starter is needed again May 9.
