  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Gets contract for 2023

Gomber agreed Wednesday with the Rockies on a one-year, $1.65 million deal to avoid arbitration, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Gomber split time between the rotation and the bullpen in 2022, logging a 5.56 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 95:34 K:BB in 124.2 innings. With Colorado making no major additions to its pitching staff so far this offseason, Gomber will likely get another chance this spring to audition for a rotation spot, but he'll presumably have a short leash even if he breaks camp with a starting role.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Fans four in spot start

Gomber allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out four batters over three innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Wednesday. Gomber had been coming out of the bullpen since late July, but he was given the opportunity to start the Rockies' season finale. The right-hander allowed just one run in three frames but wasn't stretched out, so he departed after 46 pitches. Gomber's second season in Colorado was his worst so far in the majors, as he finished with a 5.56 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 95:34 K:BB over 124.2 innings.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Gets start in season finale

Gomber is listed as the Rockies' starting pitcher in Wednesday's season finale against the Dodgers. Gomber opened the season as a member of Colorado's rotation, but he was moved to the bullpen following the All-Star break and has thus far been serving as a reliever during the second half. He'll get the chance to finish the season as a starter while the Rockies are short on available arms, but Gomber likely won't be counted on to provide much length. He hasn't recorded more than 10 outs in any of his relief outings over the past month.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Works in long relief

Gomber covered 3.2 innings in relief in Sunday's 10-9 loss to the Brewers, giving up one run on two hits and one walk while striking out three. With starter Chad Kuhl getting chased from the game midway through the third inning, Gomber stepped in to give Colorado some much-needed length out of the bullpen. While he did well to keep the Brewers' bats at bay, Gomber looks like he'll have to settle for a bullpen role for now with Colorado content to give Jose Urena a trial as their No. 5 starter.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Permits three runs in no-decision

Gomber registered a no-decision during Sunday's 8-3 loss to Pittsburgh, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts in five innings. Gomber surrendered an unearned run in the first inning and two earned runs in the third after two walks came home on a two-out Jake Marisnick double. The 28-year-old has assembled a decent four-start stretch to open July -- featuring a 4.15 ERA across 21.2 innings -- after compiling a 6.55 ERA through his first 14 turns. Gomber concludes the first half with a 5.97 ERA and 1.45 WHIP with 67 strikeouts in 89 innings across 18 starts.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Starting Sunday

Gomber will start Sunday's game against the Pirates, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports. The Rockies initially expected Antonio Senzatela (shoulder) to start Sunday's matchup, but Gomber will take the mound since manager Bud Black wants Gomber to keep getting back on track following some early-season struggles. Over his last four outings, the southpaw has posted a 4.19 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 19.1 innings.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Steady in fifth win

Gomber (5-7) allowed one run on six hits, a walk and a hit batsman with three strikeouts over six innings, earning the win Tuesday over the Padres. Gomber was able to limit the damage to a Ha-Seong Kim RBI double in the second inning. The Rockies went ahead on a three-run home run by Charlie Blackmon in the sixth, allowing Gomber to grab his second win in his last three starts since returning to the rotation. This was up there with the best of the southpaw's outings this season, but he still owns a 6.11 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 62:24 K:BB across 84 innings in 17 games (15 starts) overall. It's unclear if Gomber will get another turn in the rotation prior to the All-Star break -- Antonio Senzatela (shoulder) could return for Sunday's game against the Pirates.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Notches no-decision

Gomber pitched five innings against Arizona on Thursday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five batters. He did not factor in the decision. Gomber was hounded by Diamondbacks catcher Carson Kelly, who tagged the hurler for three RBI on a homer and a single. Gomber otherwise did fine, though he needed 99 pitches to make it through five frames. The southpaw has yielded seven runs across 10.2 innings in his past two starts -- both against Arizona -- following a two-game run in the bullpen. That may be good enough to keep him in the Colorado rotation, but it isn't going to increase his roster percentage in most fantasy formats.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Remains in rotation

Gomber is listed as the Rockies' starting pitcher for Thursday's game in Arizona. After a brief stint in the bullpen, Gomber re-entered the rotation last weekend as a replacement for Ryan Feltner, who was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque. Gomber, who surrendered four earned runs on six hits and no walks across 5.2 innings in a winning effort against the Diamondbacks at Coors Field his last time out, should be in good shape to stay in the rotation at least through the All-Star break after Antonio Senzatela (shoulder) was recently moved to the injured list.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Yields four runs in win

Gomber (4-7) allowed four runs on six hits and no walks with two strikeouts in 5.2 innings, earning the win Saturday over the Diamondbacks. Gomber gave up two of the four runs on solo shots by Christian Walker and Ketel Marte. Back on June 19, Gomber lost his spot in the rotation, but he should stick in a starting role after Antonio Senzatela (shoulder) landed on the 15-day injured list Saturday. Gomber has an uninspiring 6.53 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 54:22 K:BB across 73 innings in 15 appearances (13 starts). He's projected for a road rematch in Arizona next week.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Slated to rejoin rotation

Gomber will rejoin the Rockies' rotation during their weekend series against the Diamondbacks, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports. The southpaw lost his spot in Colorado's rotation nearly two weeks ago but will reclaim a starting role after Ryan Feltner was sent down Monday. Gomber has posted a 6.55 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 67.1 innings over 14 appearances (12 starts) in the majors this year.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Roughed up as reliever

Gomber allowed three earned runs on three hits and a walk while striking out two across 1.2 innings Wednesday against the Marlins. Gomber made his first appearance since being demoted to a relief role. He retired the first two batters he faced but served up back-to-back homers to Jazz Chisholm and Jorge Soler to sour the appearance. Gomber has a disastrous 6.68 ERA and 1.50 WHIP across 64.2 frames on the season.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Shifting to bullpen

Gomber has lost his spot in the Rockies' starting rotation and will be available out of the bullpen beginning with Sunday's game against the Padres, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports. The left-hander had a decent 4.11 ERA and 1.20 WHIP through his first eight starts of the campaign, but he surrendered 24 runs across his past four outings to lose his rotation spot. Ryan Feltner will remain in the rotation going forward with Gomber moving to a relief role.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Surrenders five runs in loss

Gomber (3-7) took the loss during Wednesday's 7-5 defeat at the hands of the Guardians, allowing five runs on nine hits and one walk with four strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Gomber surrendered one run apiece in each of the first two innings and stumbled in the fifth, allowing three runs on four baserunners, to fall in line for the loss. The 28-year-old has now surrendered at least five runs in three of his last four starts and seen his ERA and WHIP spike to 6.43 and 1.48, both of which rank bottom four among the 62 qualified starters. Gomber will look to get back on track with a matchup against Miami on tap for early next week.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Strong start in win

Gomber (3-6) earned the victory Thursday in San Francisco, striking out five in six innings while allowing two runs on five hits, a hit batsman and a walk. Both runs against Gomber came across during the second inning as he allowed four batters to reach safely. He settled down from there and would end up retiring the final eight batters he faced. The lefty needed a good outing following two straight disastrous starts during which he gave up a combined 17 runs. It has been feast or famine for the 28-year-old this season with six quality starts and five disappointing outings. His next start will likely come in the middle of next week against Cleveland.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Roughed up by Atlanta on Thursday

Gomber (2-6) took the loss against Atlanta on Thursday, allowing nine runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out five over five innings. Gomber got out of the first inning allowing only a walk, but Atlanta got to him for four runs over the next two frames. He hurled a scoreless fourth before serving up a grand slam to Travis d'Arnaud in the fifth that sealed his fate. Gomber recently had a promising month-long run, tossing five quality starts across six appearances between April 23 and May 22. His past two outings have been disastrous, however, as he's allowed a combined 17 runs over 6.1 innings. That has pushed his season ERA up to 6.54 and removed him from fantasy consideration in almost every format. Gomber is slated to take the mound in San Francisco next week.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Slammed by Nats

Gomber (2-5) took the loss in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Nationals, coughing up eight runs on seven hits and three walks over 1.1 innings. He struck out one. The southpaw just didn't have it Saturday, needing 59 pitches (33 strikes) to record only four outs, but Gomber at least didn't give up much hard contact as just one of the seven hits off him went for extra bases. Despite posting quality starts in five of his prior six outings, this poor showing leaves him with a 5.51 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 35:16 K:BB through 47.1 innings on the season.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Friday's game postponed

Gomber won't start as scheduled Friday against the Nationals after the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports. The game will be made up via a doubleheader Saturday, and Gomber should start one of those contests. Chad Kuhl, who is Saturday's regularly scheduled starter, should start the other game.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Goes seven in loss

Gomber (2-4) took the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out two over seven innings in a 2-0 defeat Sunday against the Mets. All of the damage against Gomber came in the sixth inning when he allowed three consecutive hits and an RBI groundout. Other than that, he allowed only four singles, erasing two of them on double-play balls, and did not walk a batter. The 28-year-old has thrown six innings or more in five of his last six starts and has a 3.41 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in that span. His next start will likely come toward the end of the week in Washington.

  • Rockies' Austin Gomber: Starting Sunday

Gomber will start Sunday's game against the Mets, Danielle Allentuck of The Denver Gazette reports. Gomber was initially listed as the starter for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets, but he'll get an extra day of rest prior to starting in Sunday's series finale. The Rockies haven't yet announced a starter for Saturday's nightcap but will likely rely heavily on their bullpen.
