Player Outlook
Miguel Andujar spent the 2023 season in the Pirates organization, though he earned only 90 plate appearances at the big-league level. He'll have a new home in 2024, as he was claimed by the Athletics after being waived in early November. From an opportunity perspective, there's not much of a better landing spot, though Andujar will still need to compete with the likes of Seth Brown, Brent Rooker and JJ Bleday for regular run at corner outfield or DH. Given his lack of playing time in the majors since 2018 - he's never surpassed 162 PA in the last five seasons - it's difficult to get a true gauge of Andujar's potential, though he has consistently possessed a solid hit tool and command of the strike zone. There's not likely to be much power, but given the state of his current club, Andujar is a name worth keeping in mind in the final rounds of AL-only or deep draft-and-hold formats.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Records second steal in win

Andujar went 1-for-5 with a stolen base and a run in a win over the Red Sox on Wednesday. Andujar hit safely for the sixth time in the last seven games Wednesday and made good use of his one time on the basepaths. The veteran worked himself into scoring position after his third-inning single by recording his second stolen base of the season, and he eventually came home on Lawrence Butler's double. Andujar went hitless in his first game of the month back on July 2, but he's gone on to post a .300 average and .789 OPS across the 31 plate appearances he's logged in the subsequent seven contests.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Breakout performance in win

Andujar went 3-for-4 with an RBI single, a two-run double, a walk and a run in a win over the Orioles on Saturday. Andujar didn't join in on the Athletics' long-ball barrage, but he did plenty of damage with his pair of knocks. The hot-hitting veteran's trio of RBI came when Oakland already owned a commanding lead, as his fourth-inning single drove home Brett Harris to make the score 14-1, and he tacked on two more runs to the advantage with his sixth-inning double. The multi-hit effort, Andujar's first since June 26, pushed his average back over the .300 mark (.304), and he's now driven in five runs over his last three contests following a 12-game RBI drought.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Belts third homer Friday

Andujar went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Orioles on Friday. Andujar had last left the yard way back on June 1, but he ended a 28-game power drought with a 402-foot shot in the first to quickly erase a 1-0 deficit. The veteran has now hit safely in three straight games, and Friday's homer coaxed his slugging percentage back over the .400 mark (.403).

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Singles, scores in win

Andujar went 1-for-4 with an RBI single and a run in a win over the Angels on Thursday. Andujar's third-inning single plated Brett Harris with the Athletics' first run of the afternoon. The timely knock marked the eighth time in the last 10 games Andujar has reached safely, helping keep his average at an impressive .293 despite some cooling off following a blistering start to the season. The veteran has flashed average pop -- only nine of his 41 hits have gone for extra bases -- but his modest 14.3 percent strikeout rate continues to give him plenty of opportunities to have the ball drop in.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Racks up three hits in win

Andujar went 3-for-5 with one RBI and one run scored in Wednesday's 5-1 win over the Royals. Andujar has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, and he has multiple hits in six of those contests. During the hot stretch, he's batting .381 (16-for-42) with two extra-base hits. The outfielder is up to a .330/.340/.440 slash line with two home runs, one stolen base, 14 RBI, 12 runs scored and four doubles over 94 plate appearances, which has been more than enough for him to see steady playing time in left field since his season debut May 24.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Another multi-hit effort Tuesday

Andujar went 2-for-4 with an RBI infield single in a win over the Royals on Tuesday. The hot-hitting veteran kept rolling Tuesday, authoring his fifth two-hit tally in the last nine games while recording his first RBI since June 1. Andujar hasn't provided much pop of late -- he counts a pair of doubles as his only extra-base hits in that aforementioned nine-game span -- but his .314/.326/.430 slash line across 89 plate appearances this season is essentially above reproach.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: On base thrice in loss

Andujar went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk in a loss to the Padres on Monday. Andujar authored one of two multi-hit efforts on the night for the otherwise anemic Athletics offense, pushing his season slash line to a stellar .321/.328/.500 in the process. The veteran has back-to-back two-hit efforts, and he now boasts six multi-hit tallies over his first 14 games of the season.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Four hits, four RBI vs. Atlanta

Andujar went 4-for-5 with a three-run homer, an additional RBI and three total runs scored in Saturday's 11-9 victory over Atlanta. Andujar extended Oakland's lead to 6-2 in the second inning, blasting a three-run homer off Chris Sale. It's the second homer in seven games for Andujar this year, and he's gone 9-for-17 with three extra-base hits in his last four contests. Overall, he's slashing an outstanding .448/.433/.724 through his first 30 plate appearances with 12 RBI, six runs scored and two steals while settling into an everyday role in Oakland.

Andujar went 2-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a run in a loss to Atlanta on Friday. Andujar provided the only multi-hit effort of the night for the Athletics, who were mostly stymied by Reynaldo Lopez and three relievers. Andujar already has a trio of extra-base hits since making his delayed season debut May 24, and he's quickly cobbled together a .375 average and .943 OPS by hitting safely in five of his first six games of the campaign.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Plates pair in multi-hit effort

Andujar went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in a loss to the Rays on Wednesday. Andujar's torrid start after a delayed season debut continued in the one-run loss, with the multi-hit effort serving as his second in his first four starts. The veteran has already knocked in seven runs, carrying over the momentum he'd generated during a stellar spring training before suffering a knee injury.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Three hits in season debut

Andujar went 3-for-4 with two RBI in Friday's 6-3 loss to the Astros. Andujar had RBI singles in the first and seventh innings in his season debut. The outfielder missed nearly two months with a torn meniscus in his right knee and hit .389 (7-for-18) during a five-game rehab stint at Triple-A Las Vegas. Andujar will join a suddenly crowded Oakland outfield, with his best chance for playing time coming in left field in competition with fellow right-handed hitters Brent Rooker and Daz Cameron.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Reinstated from IL

The Athletics reinstated Andujar (knee) from the injured list Friday. Andujar has been on the injured list all season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee shortly before Opening Day. It had been previously reported that he was in line to make several more rehab starts at Triple-A Las Vegas, but the A's believe the 29-year-old is healthy enough to return from his assignment early. In five games with Las Vegas, Andujar went 7-for-18 with six RBI and scored three runs. Brett Harris was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Rehab assignment continuing

Andujar (knee) is slated to remain at Triple-A Las Vegas for several more rehab games, per the Associated Press, and he went 0-for-4 with a walk in the Aviators' loss to Tacoma on Wednesday. Andujar put in a full game's worth of plate appearances at designated hitter, and he's apparently set to spend at least a few more days with Las Vegas before activation is considered. The veteran has played four games with the Aviators so far, hitting .357 (5-for-14) with three doubles, five RBI, Wednesday's walk and a run. However, he's only played defense in one of those contests, logging six innings in left field against El Paso on Saturday.

Andujar (knee) will be evaluated by the Athletics on Monday after playing for a second consecutive day for Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday, MLB.com reports. Andujar made his rehab debut for the Aviators on Thursday and returned to the field Saturday, going 0-for-3 while playing a full game in left field during the loss to El Paso. If Andujar feels good after playing back-to-back rehab games over the weekend, he may be deemed ready for activation early in the week.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Knocks in three in rehab debut

Andujar (knee) went 2-for-3 with a three-run double Thursday as the designated hitter for Triple-A Las Vegas. Andujar was lifted for a pinch hitter late in the game, but his timing at the plate appeared to be in fine form despite an extended layoff. The multi-hit effort was reminiscent of the red-hot spring Andujar enjoyed before it was cut short by his knee injury, and the veteran may not need a long rehab assignment before getting added to Oakland's big-league roster.

Andujar (knee) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Andujar has been going through workouts with the Aviators over the past few days, and he is now scheduled to get back into game action soon. The A's haven't indicated how long they intend on keeping the 29-year-old in the minors, but he will likely need to see a good amount of at-bats after spending the past two months recovering from knee surgery.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Runs bases Wednesday

Andujar (knee) ran the bases at Oakland Coliseum on Wednesday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Andujar just recently had a minor setback with his surgically repaired right knee while taking batting practice, so it's certainly a good sign that he's already been cleared to run the bases. He's been out since late March and will need a good number of rehab at-bats in the minors prior to being activated from the 10-day injured list.

  • Athletics' Miguel Andujar: Slight setback in recovery

Andujar has been experiencing some lateral soreness in his surgically repaired right knee after recently beginning to take batting practice, MLB.com reports. Manager Mark Kotsay labeled the development a "slight setback" that will slow Andujar's progress briefly. The veteran will eventually need a fairly lengthy rehab assignment, so this latest interruption in his recovery could push his potential return into the latter portion of May.

Andujar (knee) is expected to run the bases Saturday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. If he's able to work out Saturday without issue, he'll likely be sent out on a rehab assignment in the near future.
