Guardians' Dom Nunez: Invited to Guardians' camp
Nunez signed a minor-league contract with the Guardians on Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training.

Pirates' Dom Nunez: Catches on with Pittsburgh
Nunez signed a minor-league contract with the Pirates on Tuesday.
Before getting released by the Cubs earlier this month, Nunez had been playing at Triple-A Iowa, where he posted a .733 OPS with four home runs in 45 contests. The 28-year-old will give the Pirates some catching depth at Triple-A Indianapolis.

Cubs' Dom Nunez: Lands minor-league deal with Cubs
Nunez signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Monday.
Nunez has made major-league appearances for the Rockies in three of the last four seasons but was claimed off waivers by the Giants in early November before being designated for assignment a week later. He'll now join the Cubs organization, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him serve as a non-roster invitee during spring training.

Giants' Dom Nunez: Loses spot on 40-man roster
Nunez was designated for assignment by the Giants on Tuesday.
Nunez was claimed off waivers by San Francisco last week, but he had only a brief stay on the 40-man roster. The 27-year-old played in only 14 games for the Rockies last season and spent most of the campaign at the Triple-A level, where he had a .223/.319/.360 slash line in 285 plate appearances.

Giants' Dom Nunez: Claimed by Giants
Nunez was claimed off waivers by the Giants on Wednesday.
Nunez spent the final month of the 2022 campaign at Triple-A Albuquerque and will join a new organization prior to the 2023 season. He'll likely compete for a roster spot as a backup catcher during spring training.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: Optioned to minors
Nunez was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday.
Nunez had filled in as the backup catcher in Colorado with Elias Diaz sidelined. With Diaz back, Nunez will return to Albuquerque after going 0-for-5 with three strikeouts in his brief stint with the big-league club.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: Called up Friday
Nunez was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.
Nunez has been in the minors since mid-May but will rejoin the major-league club after Elias Diaz (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday. Nunez will likely serve as the No. 2 catcher behind Brian Serven while Diaz is sidelined.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: Sent to Triple-A
Nunez was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque following Monday's loss to the Giants, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
Nunez hasn't done much of anything at the dish to this point, slashing .143/.278/.179 with one double, two RBI and three runs scored. Brian Serven and Carlos Perez are two options to serve as the backup catcher following Nunez's demotion, though a move has yet to be made.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: Retreats to bench
Nunez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Tigers, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Nunez picked up his fourth start of the season in the back half of a doubleheader in Saturday's 3-2 win, going hitless over three at-bats. He'll cede catching duties to No. 1 backstop Elias Diaz in the series finale Sunday.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: Secures backup catcher job
Manager Bud Black confirmed Sunday that Nunez will make the Rockies' Opening Day roster as the team's backup catcher, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Nunez secured his spot after the Rockies reassigned his main competition for the role -- Carlos Perez and Brian Serven -- to their minor-league camp Sunday. Black lauded Nunez for his power and on-base skills, but a 34.6 percent strikeout rate in 2021 limited the impact of the 27-year-old's overall offensive output. Nunez will likely pick up anywhere from one to three starts per week while top backstop Elias Diaz is healthy.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: Lackluster results this spring
Nunez has hit .188 with a run and seven strikeouts across seven Cactus League appearances this spring.
Nunez has hit below .200 in each of the last two seasons, and he isn't faring any better in camp ahead of the 2022 campaign. The 27-year-old should split time with Elias Diaz behind the dish this year and isn't a very strong fantasy option even though he gets to play his home games at Coors Field.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: Homers in back-to-back games
Nunez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 11-2 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Nunez went deep off Zac Gallen in the fifth inning for the Rockies' second run of the game. It was his second long ball in as many games and his 10th of the season. The catcher is slashing just .187/.290/.396 with 31 RBI and 30 runs scored in 259 plate appearances this season.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: Swats game-tying long ball
Nunez hit a solo home run as a pinch hitter in Friday's 9-7 win over the Diamondbacks.
Elias Diaz started the game behind the plate and knocked in a run of his own, but Nunez was able to make an impact with his solo shot leading off the ninth that tied the game 7-7. The homer was his first since Aug. 18. Between the two long balls, he knocked in only one run and batted .211 across 38 at-bats.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: Back on bench Wednesday
Nunez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Giants.
Though Elias Diaz will start Wednesday and has largely dominated the playing time behind the plate since the All-Star break, Nunez looks to have turned the catcher position into more of a timeshare of late. Nunez picked up his fourth start in seven games in Tuesday's 12-3 loss, going 1-for-4 with a strikeout. Neither Diaz or Nunez likely profiles as the Rockies' long-term solution at catcher, so the 63-76 club may be content to split reps between the two as it plays out the string on another losing season.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: On base three times in loss
Nunez went 1-for-2 with a triple, two walks and a run Sunday in the Rockies' 8-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.
Nunez has slashed .267/.353/.800 over his last five starts, but it's probably too late for him to usurp Elias Diaz as the Rockies' No. 1 catcher. Diaz is maintaining an .894 OPS since the All-Star break and has proven far more adept at making consistent contact against big-league pitching than Nunez. Since the start of the 2019 campaign, Nunez's 35.5 percent strikeout rate is the 12th-worst mark in MLB among all players who have logged at least 250 plate appearances.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: Clubs sixth homer
Nunez went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's 6-2 loss to the Angels.
He took Shohei Ohtani deep in the fifth inning to get the Rockies on the board. Nunez continues to have trouble making consistent contact, but at least it tends to be hard contact -- he has five hits in 18 at-bats in July, with four of them (three doubles and Monday's homer) going for extra bases. On the season, he's slashing just .173/.278/.370 with six home runs and 25 RBI through 57 games.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: Doubles twice
Nunez went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, an RBI and a walk during Thursday's win over the Diamondbacks.
Nunez cranked an RBI double in the second inning, then swatted his second two-bagger of the day in the ninth. It was just the fifth multi-hit effort of the season for Nunez, who lost the primarily backstop role to Elias Diaz last month. Across 52 games, the 26-year-old is batting .174/.275/.362 with nine doubles.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: Playing time on downturn
Nunez remains out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates.
Nunez will sit for the fourth time in five games while Elias Diaz receives another turn behind the dish. Though Diaz appears to have overtaken Nunez on the depth chart for now, neither backstop has been able to take advantage of his opportunities this season. Nunez has delivered a .575 OPS while striking out in 39.4 percent of his plate appearances, while Diaz has done a better job of making contact (19.4 K%) but has a paltry .487 to show for it.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: Heads back to bench
Nunez will sit Saturday against the Brewers, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Nunez and Elias Diaz had been in something close to a strict platoon role for much of the season, but they've had a more even split lately. Nunez still hasn't started against a lefty all season, but he and Diaz now appear to be splitting starts against righties such as Saturday's starter Adrian Houser.

Rockies' Dom Nunez: On bench Thursday
Nunez is not in the lineup Thursday against the Brewers.
Nunez is 4-for-23 in June and will take a seat Thursday for the second straight game. Elias Diaz will work behind the plate for Colorado.
