Mariners' Rangel Ravelo: Removed from big-league camp
The Mariners reassigned Ravelo to minor-league camp Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
After signing an NRI deal with Seattle in the offseason, Ravelo appeared in just two games and logged one hit in four trips to the plate. Ravelo slashed .310/.428/.473 with 35 RBI with the Dodgers' Triple-A affiliate last year, and he may see time in the big leagues this season if his bat stays hot in the minors.

Mariners' Rangel Ravelo: Inks minors deal
Ravelo signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Nov. 16.
A 31-year-old first baseman, Ravelo slashed .310/.428/.473 with eight home runs in 59 games for the Padres' Triple-A affiliate in 2023. Seattle marks his sixth franchise. He last played in the majors for the Cardinals in 2020.

Padres' Rangel Ravelo: Reassigned to MiLB camp

Ravelo spent most of the last two years in Nippon Professional Baseball, and his numbers were less than spectacular in 2022 with the Orix Buffaloes. The 30-year-old first baseman and corner outfielder will probably be nothing more than minor-league depth for San Diego in 2023.

Rangel Ravelo: En route to Japan
The Dodgers agreed Monday to sell Ravelo's minor-league contract to an unspecified team in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball, Francys Romero of MLB.com reports.
Despite posting a massive .407/.504/.758 slash line through his 113 plate appearances at Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, the 29-year-old Ravelo appeared unlikely to receive a promotion to the big club anytime soon. With that in mind, Ravelo has chosen to pursue work overseas in Japan, where he could immediately become one of the top sluggers on the circuit. Ravelo previously saw big-league action with the Cardinals in 2019 and 2020, supplying a .601 OPS over 84 career plate appearances.

Dodgers' Rangel Ravelo: Receives demotion
The Dodgers reassigned Ravelo to their minor-league camp Tuesday, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.
After joining the Dodgers on a minor-league deal over the winter, Ravelo is expected to handle a near-everyday role at Triple-A Oklahoma City this season. The 28-year-old has shown a quality combination of contact and on-base skills during his various stops in the minors, but he hasn't been able to translate that success to the majors. Over his 84 plate appearances with the Cardinals across the last two seasons, Ravelo submitted a .189/.250/.351 slash line (57 wRC+).

Ravelo went 2-for-2 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and three RBI during a 12-2 win over the Tigers in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader.
Getting the start as the DH in the matinee, Ravelo connected off Nick Ramirez in the sixth inning for his first homer of 2020. The 28-year-old has gone 4-for-11 since rejoining the Cards' roster with five RBI in three games.

Ravelo drew the start at designated hitter for only his second game action of the season, a campaign during which he had to overcome a COVID-19 infection that was part of the team's outbreak in August. The 28-year-old's third-inning double Sunday plated Tyler O'Neill to give the Cardinals a 5-3 lead and Ravelo his first RBI since Sept. 25 of last season. Now that he's healthy, Ravelo may have a chance at semi-regular playing time at either DH or as a potential fill-in at a corner infield spot for what remains of the regular season.

Cardinals' Rangel Ravelo: Still projected for some DH duty
Now that the universal implementation of the designated hitter in 2020 is official, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports Ravelo could be one of several players the Cardinals deploy in that spot.
Ravelo originally projected to serve as the team's primary pinch hitter, a role the departed Jose Martinez held last season. However, with the DH rule now offering manager Mike Shildt an opportunity to get an extra bat into the lineup each day, president of baseball operations John Mozeliak specifically mentioned Ravelo as an option to rotate into the spot on occasion. The long-time minor-leaguer finally got his first majors break last season, slashing .205/.256/.410 across 43 plate appearances.

Cardinals' Rangel Ravelo: Likely strong DH candidate
Ravelo would be a natural candidate to frequently slot in at designated hitter if the position is instituted universally during an abbreviated 2020 season, Rick Hummel of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
