Weaver allowed three hits and one walk over 6.1 scoreless innings during Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Cardinals. He stuck out six and didn't factor in the decision. Weaver recorded an out during the seventh inning for the first time this season and generated 17 swinging strikes on 86 pitches. The right-hander was left with a no-decision despite producing his first quality start, since neither team managed to score until the eighth inning. Weaver surrendered eight home runs in his first four starts of the year, but he's reined in the long ball of late with just one homer allowed over his past three outings.... See More ... See Less

Reds' Luke Weaver: Hit around by Yankees
Weaver did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing four runs on eight hits and zero walks over 4.1 innings against the Yankees. He struck out four. Most of the damage was done in the fifth inning, when Weaver gave up three runs after striking out Anthony Volpe to open up the inning. Immediately after recording the punchout, Isiah Kiner-Falefa clubbed a solo home run, then the Yankees fired off four straight hits to get Weaver pulled on just 73 pitches. Though Weaver owns a 6.52 ERA and is giving up 2.6 HR/9 on the year, he remains an intriguing matchup-based streamer and daily fantasy option due to his immense strikeout upside (eight K's in two starts this season). However, he'll have a tough time reaching his punchout upside in his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to occur against the Cardinals, who strike out the eighth fewest times per game in MLB.... Reds' Luke Weaver: Posts best outing of season
Weaver did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk over 5.1 innings during a 3-1 loss to the Marlins. He struck out six. Weaver posted five scoreless frames before allowing a game-tying hit in the sixth and was pulled with one out. It was the first time in five starts that the right-hander hadn't surrendered multiple runs, lowering his ERA from 7.36 to 6.26. Despite the poor start to the campaign, Weaver still boasts a 27:8 K:BB over 27.1 innings, giving him a solid upside if he can start posting more scoreless frames. However, he'll likely have a difficult matchup in his next start, as he's projected to face the Yankees during the opener of a three-game weekend set.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Luke Weaver: Tagged with four runs
Weaver dropped to 0-2 after yielding four runs on nine hits and two walks over 4.1 innings while striking out three in Monday's 8-3 loss to the Padres. After allowing a two-run double to Juan Soto in the first inning, Weaver settled in for a pair of shutout frames before being charged with another run in the fourth and fifth innings. Weaver has given up at least four runs in each of his three starts this season, resulting in an unsightly 7.88 ERA through 16 innings. He's projected for a home matchup with the White Sox this weekend.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Luke Weaver: Hit hard Tuesday
Weaver did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing six runs on eight hits and two walks over 5.2 innings against Texas. He struck out eight. While Weaver was able to rack up eight strikeouts Tuesday, he struggled to keep the ball in the yard, surrendering three home runs. However, Weaver was spared the loss as the Reds rallied to score six runs in the eighth inning, ultimately winning 7-6. Weaver is 0-1 through his first two starts of the year with a 7.72 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 16:4 K:BB. It's hard to see him having much fantasy value moving forward.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Luke Weaver: Settles down after rocky start
Weaver (0-1) took the loss Thursday, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks over six innings against the Pirates. He struck out eight. Weaver got off to a rough start in his Reds debut, allowing back-to-back home runs to Connor Joe and Jack Suwinski in a four-run first inning. However, Weaver would settle in and blank the Pirates over his final five frames, allowing just one more hit while punching out seven of his last 16 batters faced. The 29-year-old Weaver will look to carry that momentum into his next start, likely to come next week against the Rangers. He went 1-1 with a 6.56 ERA in 35.2 innings last season between Arizona and Kansas City.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Luke Weaver: Activated for season debut
Weaver (forearm) was activated Thursday from the 15-day injured list. Weaver will make his season debut -- and Reds debut -- in a start Thursday night against the Pirates after getting over a bout of forearm inflammation that popped up in mid-March. He signed a one-year, $2 million deal with Cincinnati over the winter, coming off a rough 6.56 ERA in 35.2 innings (mostly in relief) last year between Arizona and Kansas City.... See More ... Reds' Luke Weaver: Season debut set for Thursday
Weaver (forearm) is set to come off the 15-day injured list and start Thursday against the Pirates, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Levi Stoudt will be brought up from Triple-A Louisville for a spot start Wednesday versus the Rays to give Weaver one additional day of rest following his two-outing rehab stint at Triple-A. Weaver missed the first three weeks of the 2023 major-league season due to a flexor tendon strain, but he appears set to slot into Cincinnati's rotation.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Luke Weaver: Won't be returning Wednesday
Weaver (forearm) will not get the start for the Reds on Wednesday versus the Rays. Weaver had been lined up for that assignment after making two minor-league rehab starts at Triple-A Louisville, but the nod will instead go to Levi Stoudt. It's unclear yet whether Weaver has suffered a setback in his recovery from a spring flexor tendon injury.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Luke Weaver: To join rotation next week
Weaver (forearm) is lined up to join the Reds' starting rotation next week, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports. Weaver can jump right into Connor Overton's spot, possibly Wednesday versus the Rays, after Overton landed on the injured list Saturday due to a right elbow strain. Recovered from a spring flexor tendon injury, Weaver scattered three runs and tallied nine strikeouts over nine innings in a two-start minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville.... Reds' Luke Weaver: Excels in first rehab start
Weaver (forearm) struck out four over four shutout innings in his rehab start Sunday with Triple-A Indianapolis. He gave up no hits and issued two walks in the 61-pitch outing. Weaver, who remains on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain, fared about as well as he and the Reds could have hoped in his first official outing since March 8 in Cactus League play. Based on the workload he handled Sunday, Weaver looks like he'll be getting stretched out as a starter during his rehab assignment, making him a candidate to join the big-league rotation if Luis Cessa and/or Connor Overton continue to languish.... Reds' Luke Weaver: Starts up rehab assignment
Weaver (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment Sunday with Triple-A Louisville. Before he sustained a right forearm strain in early March, Weaver had been competing for a spot in the Opening Day rotation, so the Reds will presumably have him continue to stretch out as a starter while he's rehabbing in the minors. Whether Weaver claims a rotation spot once he completes his rehab assignment will likely hinge on the health of the Reds' current starting options as well as the performance of back-end arms Connor Overton and Luis Cessa, who would seemingly be most vulnerable for a demotion to the bullpen to make room for Weaver.... Reds' Luke Weaver: Throwing extended bullpen
Weaver (forearm) is throwing an extended bullpen before Sunday's game against the Pirates, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. If the bullpen goes well, Weaver is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville. The right-hander is on the injured list with soreness in his right forearm, and he has a chance to make starts for the Reds when he's able to return around the middle of April.... See More ... Reds' Luke Weaver: Moved to 15-day IL
The Reds placed Weaver (forearm) on the 15-day injured list Thursday. Weaver battled right forearm soreness this spring, but he is scheduled to work an intrasquad game next week in Cincinnati and should then be cleared to begin a minor-league rehab assignment. He's on track to be an option for the Reds' rotation by the end of April.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Luke Weaver: Set for intrasquad game
Weaver (forearm) is slated to pitch in an intrasquad game next week in Cincinnati, per MLB.com. Weaver should then advance to a minor-league rehab assignment, probably with Triple-A Louisville, as he continues to work past a bout of right forearm soreness. The 29-year-old appears on track to be an option for the Reds' starting rotation before the end of April.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Luke Weaver: Pitches in minor-league game
Weaver (forearm) pitched in a minor-league spring training game Saturday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Weaver has been dealing with a minor forearm issue this spring and isn't expected to be ready for Opening Day. He's making progress, however, and doesn't seem to be in line for a long absence.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Luke Weaver: Advances to bullpen session
Weaver (forearm) threw a bullpen session Wednesday in Reds camp, Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Weaver is ramping back up from a bout of right forearm soreness, but he is expected to open the season on the injured list and then head out to Triple-A Louisville for a rehab assignment whenever he is deemed fit again for live competition. The 29-year-old should be an option for the Reds' rotation around mid-to-late April if all goes well from this point forward.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Luke Weaver: Could open on IL
Weaver (forearm) may not be ready for the start of the season, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. He is still working toward pitching off a mound and has been throwing from flat ground. Weaver will likely either go on a rehab assignment or be held back in extended spring training before joining the big-league rotation.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Luke Weaver: Will resume throwing Friday
Reds manager David Bell told reporters that Weaver (forearm) will throw Friday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Bell says that Weaver being able to throw Friday is a "really good sign." The right-hander has dealt with right forearm soreness this spring, but it sounds like Cincinnati is just taking precautions with him in the middle of Cactus League play. There's a good chance Weaver returns to the mound in the coming days.... See More ... See Less -
Reds' Luke Weaver: Could be pushed back
Reds manager David Bell said Wednesday that Weaver dealt with right forearm soreness in his most recent spring outing Monday and could have his next start pushed back, Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Weaver worked three innings against minor-leaguers Monday before walking off the mound in advance of the fourth inning due to the sore forearm. The injury was deemed minor after he was examined by the medical staff, but the Reds are unlikely to have him make a start this weekend. Weaver is vying for one of the final spots in the Cincinnati rotation, and, if healthy, has been viewed as one of the favorites.... See More ... See Less
