Reds' Brent Suter: Roughed up by Phils
Suter allowed five runs (four earned) on three hits and one walk over one-third of an inning in Tuesday's 9-4 loss to Philadelphia.
Suter entered when the game was still in doubt -- the Reds trailed by two runs entering the seventh inning -- but he was hurt by an Elly De La Cruz throwing error and later a Bryce Harper grand slam. The lefty reliever had scoreless outings in his first three appearances before Tuesday.

Reds' Brent Suter: Lands with Cincy
Suter agreed to a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Reds on Thursday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.
The deal comes with a $3.5 million club option ($500K buyout) for 2025. Suter goes from the worst pitcher's park in baseball (Coors Field) to the second- or third-worst pitcher's park in Cincinnati. He has logged an ERA under 3.80 in five consecutive seasons and seven of his eight big-league seasons. Suter is one of the better middle relievers to pick up wins with, but he has one career save.

Rockies' Brent Suter: Opening season finale
Suter will start Sunday's game against the Twins, Luke Zahlmann of The Denver Gazette reports.
The soft-tossing lefty will open Sunday's series finale instead of previously scheduled starter Chase Anderson (undisclosed). Suter has a 3.42 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 54:25 K:BB across 68.1 innings and will attempt to finish his contract year on a positive note.

Rockies' Brent Suter: Opening afternoon game
Suter will be the first pitcher on the mound for the Rockies in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Giants, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.
The Rockies haven't officially termed Suter an "opener," nor have they announced which reliever will handle the bulk innings behind him, but it's almost certain that's what this will be, rather than a conventional start. Suter wound up missing nearly a month of action with a strained oblique but is ready to go after making one rehab appearance. The veteran southpaw has been excellent out of the Rockies' bullpen this season with a 2.81 ERA in 31 appearances.

Suter sustained an oblique injury in Tuesday's 8-6 loss to the Reds and he will now be sidelined for at least a couple weeks. Right-hander Noah Davis was called up from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday to replace Suter on the roster.

Rockies' Brent Suter: Suffers oblique injury
Suter sustained an oblique injury during his relief appearance in Tuesday's 8-6 loss to the Reds, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.
The injury didn't seem to affect Suter from a performance standpoint, as he worked around a base hit to turn in a scoreless eighth inning. However, Suter seemingly tweaked his side at some point during the game, and he's now likely to get at least a couple of days off before the Rockies assess whether he's fit to rejoin the bullpen during the club's upcoming weekend series with the Angels. Suter can be viewed as day-to-day for the time being, though he still appears to be a candidate for the 15-day injured list.

Rockies' Brent Suter: Picks up second win
Suter (2-0) earned the win in Wednesday's 11-6 win over the Reds. He allowed one walk over one scoreless inning.
Suter has been excellent for the Rockies this season. The veteran left-hander has allowed just one run in his last 17.1 innings (12 appearances), lowering his ERA to 0.98 with a 0.98 WHIP and 26:10 K:BB. While Suter hasn't received a save opportunity this year, he could eventually work his way into the picture if Pierce Johnson or Daniel Bard struggle.

Suter got off to a rough start last season, posting a 4.58 ERA ahead of the All-Star break, but a 2.87 ERA and 1.05 WHIP during the second half of the season showed that the 33-year-old lefty was still a viable option out of the 'pen. He could be an arm that Colorado relies on often in 2023 as the team looks to improve on a 2022 campaign in which they ranked last in bullpen ERA (4.85).

Suter played his seventh MLB campaign for the Brewers last season, pitching in 54 games as a reliever and posting a 3.78 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 53:22 K:BB over 66.2 innings. He was claimed off waivers by the Rockies on Friday and quickly agreed to terms with the club for the 2023 campaign. Given Colorado's bullpen woes last year, Suter should begin next season in a high-leverage role, possibly as the primary setup man ahead of closer Daniel Bard.

Brewers' Brent Suter: Winds up with fourth win
Suter (4-3) tossed a scoreless 11th inning and picked up the win in Tuesday's victory over the Dodgers.
Suter allowed the Dodgers to take the lead in the top of the 11th, but he limited them to one run and wound up with the win when the Brewers pushed two runs across in the bottom of the frame. Suter has recorded three wins since the All-Star break, and although he allowed a run in three of his last four appearances, he owns a 1.86 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB in 9.2 innings over eight second-half appearances.
