Almonte allowed four runs on two hits and one walk over 1.1 innings against the Pirates on Wednesday. Almonte entered the game with the Dodgers in a jam in the sixth inning, inheriting a two-on, one-out situation. He escaped by inducing a double play, but the right-hander was less effective in the following frame. He allowed four hitters to reach base, and all four came around to score, though two crossed the plate after Almonte departed. The veteran reliever has been charged with multiple runs in three of his 12 outings this season, including in two of his past three trips to the mound.... See More ... See Less

Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Facing hitters Wednesday
Almonte (elbow) will face hitters Wednesday for the first time this spring, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. Almonte missed much of the second half last season with a right elbow injury, so the Dodgers have eased him into things this spring. It's not clear at this point when he might be in game-ready shape, but the club expects him to be available for the start of the season. Almonte was quite a find for the Dodgers in 2022, sporting a 1.02 ERA over 33 relief appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Reinstated from injured list
Almonte (elbow) was activated from the 15-day injured list Wednesday. Almonte made three appearances during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City and has been cleared to rejoin the big-league roster. The 28-year-old has been a strong bullpen piece for Los Angeles this year with a 1.15 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 30:10 K:BB across 31.1 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Nearing activation
Almonte (elbow) completed his third minor-league rehab outing Sunday and is expected to return to the Dodgers on Wednesday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. Almonte gave up two runs over two-thirds of an inning for Triple-A Oklahoma on Sunday, though both scored after he exited the contest. The right-hander looked fine despite the unpleasant stat line, throwing 10 of 16 pitches for strikes and getting unlucky on one of the hits (a bloop single). Dodgers manager Dave Roberts has indicated that Almonte will be activated Wednesday as long as he doesn't encounter any physical setbacks, and the veteran reliever should return to a prominent place in the team's bullpen after posting a 1.15 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 30:10 K:BB while notching seven holds and a save over his first 29 outings.... Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Begins rehab assignment
Almonte (elbow) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Almonte has been out with an elbow injury since early August. He should have time to make it back for at least a handful of appearances this season, though it's unclear exactly when the Dodgers expect him to return.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Tosses sim game
Almonte (elbow) threw 25 pitches to teammate Gavin Lux (neck) in a sim game Wednesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Almonte was one of several injured Dodger pitchers who threw from a mound Wednesday, though he was the only one of the group who tossed to a hitter. The right-hander reportedly felt good during the sim game, with Dodgers manager Dave Roberts describing his stuff as "coming out hot," per MLB.com. Almonte is expected to toss another sim game soon before potentially heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Sim game upcoming
Almonte (elbow) will throw a simulated game Wednesday, Kirsten Watson of SportsNet LA reports. Almonte continues to take steps forward in his rehab, with the next chance to prove his health coming later in the week. He's been on the 15-day injured list since Aug. 7 due to right elbow tightness.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Throws bullpen session
Almonte (elbow) threw a bullpen session Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Almonte has made good progress in recent weeks, and he has not encountered any issues since getting back on the bump. It remains to be seen what the next step in his recovery will be, but it might not be long before he is back with the big club.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Progressing well
Almonte (elbow) is progressing well, but he might need a rehab stint before joining the Dodgers, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. He threw a bullpen session Sunday and feels good and will get back on the mound Tuesday intent on using his entire pitch mix. It sounds like Almonte could join the big-league bullpen with two or three weeks to go in the regular season.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Throwing off mound Wednesday
Almonte (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Wednesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Almonte threw off flat ground late last week, and Wednesday's throwing session marks the first time that he's been cleared for mound work since landing on the injured list Aug. 7. It's not yet clear when the right-hander will be able to begin a rehab assignment, but he's made good progress in his recovery over the last few days.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Plays catch Friday
Almonte (elbow) played catch in Miami before Friday's game against the Marlins but remains without a return timeline, the Associated Press reports. Almonte last pitched Aug. 3, and he hasn't thrown from a mound since going on the injured list Aug. 7. His ability to play catch is at least progress in the right direction, but the right-hander doesn't appear close to going on a rehab assignment. He isn't expected to be activated from the IL until at least mid-September.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Weeks away from return
Almonte (elbow) isn't expected to be activated until the second week of September, as his recovery is progressing more slowly than expected, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports. Initial reports on Almonte suggested that he wasn't dealing with anything serious, and an MRI on his right elbow came back clean. However, it's somewhat concerning that he hasn't been able to work his way back into action as quickly as expected. Almonte last pitched Aug. 3, so the updated timeline indicates that he's slated to miss over a month of action. The right-hander has been a pleasant surprise when healthy, posting a 1.15 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 30:10 K:BB over 31.1 innings while notching seven holds and one save.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Notches seventh hold

Dodgers starter Tony Gonsolin gave up only one run but threw 92 pitches over five frames, and Almonte was brought in to protect a two-run lead in the sixth. The right-hander struck out two of the four batters he faced and registered his 10th straight scoreless outing. Almonte was outstanding in July, posting a 0.93 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 10:3 K:BB while picking up a save and two holds over 9.2 innings. He has a sparkling 1.23 ERA across 27 appearances on the campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Cleans up for first save
Almonte allowed a hit and struck out one to earn the save in Monday's 5-3 win over the Rockies. Reyes Moronta made a mess of things quickly in the ninth inning, allowing a solo home run to C.J. Cron. He allowed two more baserunners aboard, and Almonte entered, promptly giving up an RBI single to Charlie Blackmon. Almonte was able to strike out Connor Joe, ending the threat and earning his first save in 18 appearances this year. In his last three outings, Almonte has been charged with two runs and four hits over two innings, so he's not in the sharpest form currently. He could still get some extra save chances in the short term with Craig Kimbrel (back) unavailable. Almonte has earned the high-leverage looks with a 1.74 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB across 20.2 innings, and he's added four holds.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Pitching well this season
Almonte tossed a perfect inning against the White Sox on Wednesday, notching two strikeouts and earning a hold. Almonte made quick work of Chicago in the seventh frame, needing 13 pitches to retire the side while striking out the final two batters in the inning. The right-hander picked up his second hold of the season as a result of the strong outing. Almonte has been excellent since being called up in mid-May, posting a 1.29 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 16:6 K:BB across 14 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Impressive in Dodgers debut
Almonte pitched two perfect innings and notched four strikeouts against the Phillies on Thursday. Almonte spent his first four big-league seasons with Colorado before joining the Dodgers on a minor-league deal this spring. The right-hander was called up Thursday and looked great in his first game in a Los Angeles uniform, retiring all six batters he faced, including the final three by strikeout. The Dodgers have one of the league's top bullpens, so Almonte doesn't figure to see much high-leverage work while he remains in the majors.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Contract selected by Dodgers
Almonte's contract was selected by the Dodgers on Thursday. Almonte made 48 relief appearances for the Rockies last year and recorded a 7.55 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 47.2 innings. He began the 2022 season at Triple-A Oklahoma City and posted a 3.52 ERA and 0.86 in 15.1 innings over 11 minor-league outings. The right-hander will join the major-league bullpen after Ryan Pepiot was sent down Thursday, and Almonte is unlikely to pitch in many high-leverage situations.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Yency Almonte: Signs MiLB deal with Dodgers
Almonte signed a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Sunday that includes an invite to major-league spring training, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Almonte spent the first four years of his major-league career in Colorado, and he made a career-high 48 relief appearances for the Rockies in 2021. During that time, he posted a career-worst 7.55 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 47.2 innings and blew all three of his save chances. The right-hander will earn $1.5 million if he earns a big-league roster spot with the Dodgers in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Yency Almonte: Elects free agency
Almonte elected free agency last week, according to his personal Twitter account. He was designated for assignment by the Rockies in October, and it's not necessarily surprising to see a young pitcher opt to switch to a different organization when given the chance. Almonte was a prospect of note back in 2016, but he has transitioned to relief and has been unable to emerge as a reliable big-league reliever (career 5.30 ERA) in 114 appearances with the Rockies.... Rockies' Yency Almonte: Outrighted to Triple-A
Almonte was outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday. Almonte made a career-high 48 relief appearances with the Rockies in 2021, but he sputtered to a 7.55 ERA and 1.59 WHIP in 47.2 innings. The right-hander will be removed from the 40-man roster early in the offseason but will likely compete for a major-league roster spot in 2022.... See More ... See Less
