  • James Ramsey: Cut loose by Twins

Ramsey was released by Minnesota on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of Zone Coverage reports.

  • Mariners' James Ramsey: Heads to Minnesota

Ramsey signed a minor-league deal with the Twins on Friday, Mike Berardino of The Pioneer Press reports.

Ramsey has been toiling at the Triple-A level since 2013, although he only appeared in one game during this past season. The outfielder slashed .264/.339/.433 with eight home runs and 38 RBI in 83 games for Oklahoma City in the Dodgers' system in 2016, and will likely start out this upcoming year with the Twins' Triple-A club. Although the soon-to-be 28-year-old hasn't received any time in the majors, he provides extra organizational depth in the outfield.

Ramsey was acquired by the Dodgers on Sunday in exchange for cash considerations.

Ramsey will start out at Triple-A Oklahoma City, but could see the big league club sooner than later given the injury situation in the Los Angeles outfield. Carl Crawford is already on the disabled list with a back injury, and Scott Van Slyke was held out of Sunday's lineup with a back ailment of his own. If Trayce Thompson is unable to take advantage of this new opportunity and Van Slyke faces a multi-game absence, Ramsey could be one of the next men up.
