The Giants released Mathisen on Friday. Mathisen appeared in 32 games at the big-league level for Arizona between the 2020 and 2021 seasons, but the 28-year-old infielder had spent the entire 2022 campaign in the minors. Over his 134 plate appearances at the Giants' Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento, Mathisen hit .170/.276/.348 with a 33.6 percent strikeout rate.... See More ... See Less

Giants' Wyatt Mathisen: Healthy at Triple-A
Mathisen (undisclosed) has appeared in two games for Triple-A Sacramento since being reinstated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday, going 0-for-5 with two walks and a run. Mathisen was sidelined for just under a month due to the unspecified injury. For the season, the 28-year-old is hitting .154/.262/.346 while striking out in 31.1 percent of his 61 plate appearances at Sacramento.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Wyatt Mathisen: Lands on injured list
Mathisen (undisclosed) was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list at Triple-A Sacramento earlier this week. No details regarding Mathisen's injury have surfaced. Prior to the injury, the corner infielder posted a .170/.259/.383 slash line with three home runs, seven RBI and nine runs scored in 14 games. He hasn't played for the River Cats since April 29.... Giants' Wyatt Mathisen: Latches on with Giants
Mathisen signed a minor-league contract with the Giants on Sunday. Mathisen found an opportunity with the Giants just three days after the Mariners released him. He made his organizational debut for San Francisco on Monday, going 2-for-4 with a double in Triple-A Sacramento's 6-5 loss to Reno. Between stints with three different Triple-A clubs this season, Mathisen is slashing .200/.325/.345 over 51 games.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Wyatt Mathisen: Outrighted to Triple-A
Mathisen was outrighted to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday. Mathisen was traded from the Rays to the Mariners in late June, but he was designated for assignment Friday. He went unclaimed on waivers and will remain at Triple-A Tacoma going forward. He's appeared in 15 games with the Triple-A affiliate this year and has hit .122 with a home run, six RBI and four runs.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Wyatt Mathisen: Designated for assignment
Mathisen was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Friday. Mathisen never made his way up to Seattle's 26-man roster after being acquired from the Diamondbacks on June 24. He'll once again go on the waiver wire, where he could attract interest from clubs looking for organizational infield depth. Mathisen slashed an underwhelming .119/.255/.190 across 51 big-league plate appearances with Arizona earlier this season.... See More ... See Less -
Mariners' Wyatt Mathisen: Acquired by Seattle
The Mariners acquired Mathisen from the Rays on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations. Mathisen, who began the season with the Diamondbacks, will be moving on to his third organization in just over the month after the Rays were quick to drop him from their 40-man roster. The 27-year-old should have a clearer path to getting a look at the big-league level with Seattle, but he's expected to report to Triple-A Tacoma initially. Over 18 games with the Rays' Triple-A affiliate in Durham, Mathisen slashed .288/.344/.525 with three home runs and nine RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Wyatt Mathisen: Designated for assignment Tuesday
Mathisen was designated for assignment Tuesday, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports. Mathisen was acquired from Arizona on May 16 but failed to crack Tampa Bay's 26-man roster during just over a month with the organization. With top prospect Wander Franco being added to the 26-man and 40-man rosters Tuesday, Mathisen ended up on the outside looking in. Mathisen could attract interest on the waiver wire from teams searching for infield depth but is highly unlikely to find a major role with a big-league club anytime soon.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Wyatt Mathisen: Dealt to Rays
Mathisen was traded from the Diamondbacks to the Rays on Sunday in exchange for cash considerations, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. Mathisen was designated for assignment by Arizona on Wednesday, but he'll find another spot on a 40-man roster going forward. He'll report to Triple-A Durham but could return to the majors at some point.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Wyatt Mathisen: DFA'd by Arizona
Mathisen was designated for assignment by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. The 27-year-old was optioned to the minors last week and has now been removed from the 40-man roster. Mathisen had a .119/.255/.190 slash line in 51 plate appearances for the Diamondbacks.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Wyatt Mathisen: Makes second straight start
Mathisen started at first base and went 1-for-2 with two walks, two RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 11-6 win over Washington. Mathisen slotted in at first base for the second consecutive game, replacing the injured Christian Walker (oblique), with both starts coming against left-handers. He's expected to fill in at first base against southpaws until Walker is ready to go. Mathisen's been primarily a pinch hitter prior to his first base fill-in role and is 2-for-13 with four walks, two RBI and a run scored through 10 games.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Wyatt Mathisen: Starts at 1B
Mathisen started at first base and went 0-for-3 with a walk in Tuesday's 7-5 loss to the Athletics. The righty-hitting Mathisen was the second player to slot in at first base since the Diamondbacks placed Christian Walker (oblique) on the injured list. He faced left-hander Jesus Luzardo. The switch-hitting Asdrubal Cabrera got the nod Monday against a righty, but he's also getting starts at second and third base. The lefty-hitting Pavin Smith should also fill in when a right-hander is the mound. Mathisen has made a couple of starts this season and is 1-for-11 (.091) with two walks and six strikeouts.... Diamondbacks' Wyatt Mathisen: Starts in LF
Mathisen started in left field Friday and went 0-for-2 in a 4-2 loss to the Padres. Manager Torey Lovullo opted to sit primary left-fielder David Peralta against a tough lefty in Blake Snell, but once Snell was replaced by a right-handed reliever, Craig Stammen, Peralta pinch-hit for Mathisen and stayed in the game in left field.... Diamondbacks' Wyatt Mathisen: Vying for utility role
Mathisen started at first base and went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI in Monday's spring game against San Francisco. The Diamondbacks are evaluating several infielders for a utility role in 2021, with Mathisen getting plenty of at-bats as part of that process. He's made an appearance in each of the last eight Cactus League games, going 5-for-14 with three walks, five RBI and two runs scored. Matheson has served at designated hitter (one game), first base (five) and third base (three). Josh Rojas (7-for-20, 3 HR), Josh VanMeter (2-for-17) and Andrew Young (1-for-12) are in the utility mix as well.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Wyatt Mathisen: Homers twice
Mathisen went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a two-run shot in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Rangers. After opening his MLB career in a 2-for-19 rut, Mathisen found the bleachers twice on Wednesday. He will look to improve on his .182/.280/.455 slash line over the season's final games.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Wyatt Mathisen: Makes MLB debut
Mathisen started at third base and went 0-for-4 in Monday's 4-2 loss to the Giants. Mathisen was called up Monday, but at age 26, he's not considered a prospect. He replaced a resting Eduardo Escobar but will play a backup infield role going forward.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Wyatt Mathisen: Joins big-league club
Mathisen was recalled by the Diamondbacks on Sunday. Mathisen provides depth across the infield as he played at first, second and third base at Triple-A Reno during the 2019 season. He also managed a 1.004 OPS in 87 games in the friendly hitting environment.... See More ... See Less -
Diamondbacks' Wyatt Mathisen: Added to 40-man roster
Mathisen's contract was selected by the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. The move protects Mathisen from the Rule 5 draft. The 25-year-old doesn't come with a ton of prospect pedigree, but he managed a strong .283/.403/.601 slash line in 87 games for Triple-A Reno last season.... See More ... See Less
