  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Yields seven runs in loss

Gausman (5-6) took the loss in Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks, allowing seven runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four across 4.1 innings. Gausman was rocked for four runs from Eugenio Suarez by virtue of a two-run homer in the second inning and a two-run double in the third before being tagged for three more in the fifth. Only 46 of Gausman's 81 pitches resulted in strikes, and the seven runs he allowed were his most in a start since June 30, 2024 against the Yankees. His 1.13 WHIP (across 86 innings) is 14th best in the American League among qualified starters, but his 4.60 ERA is eighth worst. Gausman is slated to make his next start against the Guardians on the road next week.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Gives up four runs in loss

Gausman (5-5) took the loss against the Phillies on Friday, allowing four runs on four hits and four walks while striking out seven across five innings. Gausman yielded all four runs in the second frame, highlighted by a Kyle Schwarber three-run home run. Gausman generated 15 whiffs on 95 pitches (56 strikes) and punched out at least seven batters for the fifth time this season, but he has given up at least three earned runs in three consecutive starts. The 34-year-old ace is up to 4.08 ERA across 81.2 innings this season, but his 1.07 WHIP ranks 10th among qualified starters in the American League. He's slated to face the Diamondbacks at home next week.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Delivers quality start Saturday

Gausman came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Twins, giving up three runs on four hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out five. The veteran righty's control and command deserted him in the fourth inning, as Gausman put five straight batters aboard on two singles, two walks and a hit-by-pitch -- the first time he'd issued multiple free passes in an outing since April 27 -- but he was otherwise effective en route to his seventh quality start of the season. He'll take a 3.87 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 73:17 K:BB through 76.2 innings into his next start, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Philadelphia.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Fans seven in no-decision

Gausman did not factor in the decision during Sunday's win over the Athletics. He allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out seven over 4.2 innings. Gausman gave up one run through four innings before Luis Urias' two-run double in the fifth knocked him out of the contest. It was just the second time in 12 starts that Gausman failed to complete five frames. He'd given up one run over 15 frames in his previous two starts before Sunday. Gausman threw 60 of 96 pitches for strikes and generated 13 whiffs, including 10 with the splitter. He's registered a 3.82 ERA alongside a 68:14 K:BB through 70.2 innings. Gausman's next start is expected to be in Minnesota.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Another dominant outing in win

Gausman (5-4) recorded the win Monday against the Rangers after allowing one run on five hits and no walks in eight innings. He struck out six. On the heels of tossing seven shutout innings his last time out, Gausman matched a season high in innings pitched Monday in another dominant outing. The veteran right-hander whiffed 15 and now hasn't issued a walk in any of his last four starts, and he sports a 2.81 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and a remarkable 33:1 K:BB over his last 32 innings (five starts). Gausman will be looking to keep the good times rolling in his next appearance, which is slated to come this weekend at home versus the Athletics.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Dominant with nine Ks in fourth win

Gausman (4-4) recorded the win Wednesday against the Padres after allowing three hits and no walks in seven scoreless innings. He struck out nine. Gausman was dominant, tallying 19 whiffs and coming just one punchout shy of tying his season high. It was also the veteran right-hander's longest outing since his third start of the season, and he hasn't issued a walk over his last three starts (13 innings). Gausman has still been inconsistent overall, as evidenced by his 4.03 ERA over 58 frames in 2025, but his 0.98 WHIP and 55:12 K:BB are perhaps more in line with the quality of his pitching. His ability to limit free passes also figures to work to his advantage in his next scheduled matchup against the Rangers, who entered Wednesday ranked 27th in MLB in on-base percentage (.288).

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Yields three homers in loss

Gausman (3-4) allowed six runs on 10 hits while striking out six and walking none over 5.2 innings to take the loss versus the Rays on Thursday. Gausman struggled right out of the gate, allowing a two-run home run to Brandon Lowe in the first inning. The veteran right-hander also allowed solo shots to Kameron Misner and Josh Lowe prior to his exit. Gausman had gotten some early homer trouble under control before this start -- he hadn't allowed a homer over his previous four starts, covering 20 innings in that span. This poor performance raised his ERA to 4.59 with a 1.06 WHIP and 46:12 K:BB over 51 innings through nine starts this season. It was the fourth time he's avoided walking a batter, and that impressive control has been one of the bright spots in his up-and-down campaign so far. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Padres.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Picks up third win

Gausman (3-3) allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out three without walking a batter over 5.1 innings to earn the win Friday over the Mariners. The Blue Jays' offense was hot early, giving Gausman ample support. He started to fade in the sixth inning, but he didn't give away the lead. While this wasn't Gausman's best work overall, it was enough to earn him a win for the first time in four starts. He also avoided walking a batter for the third time this year, though the seven hits allowed were a season high. The right-hander has posted a 3.97 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 40:12 K:BB through 45.1 innings over eight starts this season. His next start is projected to be at home versus the Rays.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Dominant start wasted

Gausman came away with a no-decision in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Guardians, scattering one hit and one walk over six scoreless innings. He struck out nine. The veteran right-hander put together perhaps his best performance of the season, generating 32 called or swinging strikes among his 94 pitches (66 total strikes), but he missed out on his third win of the year when the Blue Jays' bullpen melted down late. The quality start was Gausman's fourth in seven trips to the mound, and he'll take a 3.83 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 37:12 K:BB through 40 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road next weekend in Seattle.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Roughed up in third inning

Gausman (2-3) took the loss in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees, allowing six runs on three hits and five walks while striking out two over 2.2 innings. Gausman got through the first two innings with relative ease but ran into trouble in the third. He issued a single and five walks (including two with the bases loaded) before giving up a bases-clearing double to Austin Wells that gave the Yankees a 6-1 lead. Gausman tossed 53 of his 71 pitches in the third inning before being lifted, and he was subsequently ejected for arguing balls and strikes from the dugout. He has now allowed 10 runs and walked eight batters in his past two starts. The right-hander is up to a 4.50 ERA and 1.03 WHIP through 34 innings.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Jays-Yankees postponed

Gausman and the Blue Jays won't face the Yankees on Saturday, as the game was postponed due to inclement weather Toronto and New York will play a doubleheader Sunday to make up for Saturday's contest, and Gausman will start the early game. He'll be looking to bounce back from a subpar performance his last time out, which saw him give up four runs in six innings against the Astros.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Falters in fifth frame Monday

Gausman (2-2) took the loss against Houston on Monday, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six batters over six innings. Gausman held Houston scoreless through four innings, but Atlanta got to him for four runs in the fifth. That was more than enough to send the veteran righty to his second loss, as Astros ace Hunter Brown dominated Toronto's lineup. Gausman still holds a solid 3.16 ERA on the campaign, and Monday marked the first time in 2025 that he's given up more than three runs in an outing. He'll look to get back in the win column his next time out, though he's projected for a tough matchup on the road against the Yankees this weekend.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Earns strong win over Atlanta

Gausman (2-1) allowed two runs on six hits while striking out six in six innings in a win over Atlanta on Tuesday. He did not issue a walk. Gausman found himself trailing early after Austin Riley took him deep in the opening frame. Gausman cruised from there, however, allowing four base hits over the next four innings with just one runner reaching scoring position. Matt Olson was able to get a hold of one in the sixth, but the Blue Jays were still leading comfortably. Gausman has posted consecutive starts of six-plus innings and no walks. He's been ace material thus far, posting a 2.49 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and 20:3 K:BB in 25.1 innings. He's set to take the mound again next week versus the Astros on the road.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Fans 10 in dominant start

Gausman did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's win over the Red Sox. He allowed one unearned run on four hits while striking out 10 across eight innings. The lone run Gausman yielded Wednesday came in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Alex Bregman, but it was unearned due to a fielding error that saw Jarren Duran advance from second to third base. Gausman proceeded to steamroll the Red Sox lineup, retiring 21 of the next 23 batters faced while striking out 10 (including five straight punchouts across the fourth and fifth frames) for his second quality start. He's posted a 2.60 ERA, 0.63 WHIP and 14:3 K:BB in his first three outings, and he'll look to earn his second win of 2025 in his next start, which is tentatively slated for next week at home against Atlanta.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Zero strikeouts in loss

Gausman (1-1) allowed three runs on two hits and two walks while failing to record a strikeout over 5.1 innings, taking the loss Friday versus the Mets. Gausman was tagged for a two-run home run by Pete Alonso in the first inning, but he settled down fairly well after that. The Mets started making more noise in the sixth, and Gausman was charged with one of the three runs in that inning. Gausman has allowed five runs over 11.1 innings with a 4:3 K:BB over his first two starts this season. He was given extra rest after his first start, but there was no indication of any physical issues involved in that decision. If he pitches on normal rest his next time out, he would line up for a road start in Boston.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Next start likely on Friday

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Tuesday that Gausman's next start is likely to come Friday against the Mets, Hazel Mae of Sportsnet reports. Easton Lucas is tentatively lined up to start Wednesday against the Nationals in place of Max Scherzer (thumb), as long as Lucas not needed in relief Tuesday. Gausman would be pitching on seven days' rest if he does indeed take the ball Friday.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Could have start pushed to Friday

The Blue Jays could push Gausman's next start back to Friday against the Mets, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Gausman is currently scheduled to take the ball Wednesday versus the Nationals, but the Blue Jays might have Easton Lucas start that day if he's not needed in long relief before then. There does not appear to be anything wrong physically with Gausman, as this would simply give him a couple extra days of rest and also allow him to face the tougher lineup.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Flashes strong velocity Wednesday

Gausman topped out at 96.2 mph with his fastball during his spring debut Wednesday against the Pirates, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. The 34-year-old right-hander walked one and struck out two over 1.2 scoreless, no-hit innings while tossing 23 of 38 pitches for strikes. Gausman dealt with shoulder trouble last spring that prevented him from getting fully stretched out ahead of Opening Day, and he seemed to be playing catch-up all season with both his velocity and his command on his breaking pitches. Gausman finished with a 3.83 ERA and 21.4 percent strikeout rate -- his worst numbers in those categories since 2019 -- over 181 regular-season innings while averaging just 93.9 mph with his fastball. He spent this winter putting on extra muscle, and it showed in his first Grapefruit League action as he averaged 94.9 mph with his heater. If Gausman begins this season healthy, a bounce-back campaign could well be in the cards, as he produced a 3.16 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 31.1 percent strikeout rate as recently as 2023.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Still building up

Gausman threw live batting practice Sunday and will do one more such session before making his first spring start, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports. Gausman is seemingly a little behind the rest of the Jays starters, as Easton Lucas is currently working in Gausman's spot in the Jays' Grapefruit League rotation. It sounds like Gausman is on track to potentially make his first spring start next week. He showed up to camp intentionally carrying more weight because he says he loses weight throughout the MLB season and wanted to better hold up over the full season. In 2024, he had his lowest strikeout rate (21.4 percent) since 2018 and his highest walk rate (7.4 percent) since 2017.

  • Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Sporting 'sturdier' build for 2025

Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Gausman looks "sturdier" in spring training after the right-hander deliberately put on added weight over the offseason, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. "I've never really pitched an entire season at over 200 pounds, but I think that might be a possibility for me this year," Gausman said. "We'll see what happens. I usually always lose a good amount of weight during the season, so that's why I try to gain as much as I can, knowing I'll lose some of it." Gausman is listed at 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds on the Blue Jays' official roster, and he's hopeful that by bulking up during the offseason through both his diet and strength training, he'll be able to maintain that weight over the course of the long season. The 34-year-old righty is also optimistic that a sturdier build will boost his odds of staying healthy and having something closer to a normal spring training in 2025. While he didn't go on the injured list at any point in 2024, a bout with shoulder fatigue early in camp slowed his ramp-up process and may have played a part in the steep drop in both his ERA (3.83) and strikeout rate (21.4 percent) compared to his first two seasons in Toronto (3.25 ERA, 29.7 K%).
