  • Diamondbacks' Michael Perez: Thriving with new organization

Perez, who signed a minor-league contract with the Diamondbacks on July 31, is slashing .500/.556/.733 with five-extra base hits through his first eight games with Triple-A Reno. Arizona brought Perez aboard in late July with the expectation that he would provide catching depth to the upper levels of the minors, but a promotion to the big leagues isn't out of the question while the Diamondbacks' top backstop, Gabriel Moreno (adductor) remains on the injured list without a definitive return date. For now, the Diamondbacks have been leaning on prospect Adrian Del Castillo as their new No. 1 catcher and have gotten strong results from him thus far, but if he or backup Jose Herrera were to fall victim to an injury, Perez or Andrew Knizner could be next in line for a call-up.
