  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Makes third rehab appearance

Treinen (forearm) pitched one inning Tuesday, allowing one run on one hit and striking out one batter, in a minor-league rehab outing with the Dodgers' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate. Treinen's first two rehab appearances came with Triple-A Oklahoma City, but he moved to the ACL team for Tuesday's outing because Los Angeles' other minor-league affiliates are out of action during the MLB All-Star break. The righty reliever served up a solo homer to Guardians prospect Dauri Fernandez but retired the other three batters he faced. Treinen has completed exactly one frame in each of his three rehab outings to date, giving up a combined two runs (one earned) on one hit with a 4:1 K:BB. He'll likely be back with the Dodgers at or shortly after the start of the second half of the big-league campaign.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Making rehab appearance Wednesday

Treinen (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports. Treinen has been shelved since mid-April with a right forearm sprain, so he will likely need a handful of rehab outings before rejoining the Dodgers bullpen. The veteran reliever could be back on the active roster for the start of the second half if all goes well during his rehab assignment.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Could be close to rehab stint

Treinen (forearm) is scheduled to throw to hitters Saturday, and his following step could be a minor-league rehab assignment, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. Treinen first threw to live hitters Wednesday and is lined up to throw one simulated inning Saturday. If all goes well in that session, his next appearance on the mound could take place in a minor-league game. Treinen hasn't pitched in a contest since April 13, so he'll presumably need to make multiple rehab outings before he's ready to return to the Dodgers' bullpen.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Facing hitters Wednesday

Treinen (forearm) will participate in live at-bats Wednesday, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports. Treinen will throw to live hitters for the first time in his recovery from a right forearm sprain, which has sidelined him since mid-April. The right-hander is eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list, and Wednesday's session will be a major step in determining if he's ready to begin a minor-league rehab assignment.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Continues to progress toward return

Treinen (forearm) has advanced to using his entire pitch mix during his throwing progression, per MLB.com. Treinen resumed playing catch in mid-May, and he then began throwing bullpens in early June. The right-handed reliever recently became eligible to be activated from the 60-day IL, but he probably won't return to the Dodgers' bullpen until at least early July. Trienen will likely be sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment before he's ready to face big-league batters again.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Throws bullpen session

Treinen (forearm) threw a bullpen session Friday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Treinen was cleared to play catch in mid-May, and Friday marked his second bullpen session since landing on the injured list in mid-April due to a right forearm sprain. He'll likely need multiple bullpen sessions without setbacks before embarking on a rehab assignment, by which point the Dodgers should have a better idea of a timeline for his return to the majors. Treinen posted a 3.38 ERA and 1.38 WHIP across eight innings prior to his injury.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Plays catch Friday

Treinen (forearm) began playing catch Friday, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports. This marked Treinen's first activity since hitting the injured list April 19. He isn't eligible to be activated until June 18, and he still has to go through a lot of rehab work before it will be clear if returning around the 60-day minimum will be a reasonable expectation.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Set to resume throwing

Manager Dave Roberts said Thursday that Treinen (forearm) will begin playing catch within the next few days, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports. Treinen is pain free and is on the cusp of starting up his throwing program. He'll still have a lengthy ramp-up period, but he may be able to return in mid-June, when he is first eligible to be activated from the 60-day injured list.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Shifted to 60-day injured list

The Dodgers transferred Treinen (forearm) to the 60-day injured list Thursday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Treinen went down with a right forearm sprain in mid-April and has yet to resume a throwing program. He now isn't eligible to return until mid-June, and there won't be a timetable for Treinen until he starts ramping up his throwing.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Still shut down from throwing

Treinen (forearm) has not yet been cleared to resume throwing, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports. Manager Dave Roberts stated Monday that the club isn't in any hurry to move Treinen along before he's ready, and he'll remain shut down for an undisclosed period of time. Treinen was officially placed on the 15-day injured list April 19 with right forearm tightness and is eligible to return later in the week, though it appears he'll miss more than the minimum while on the mend.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Managing low-grade sprain

Manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that an MRI on Treinen's forearm showed a low-grade sprain, and the right-hander will begin a conservative rehab program, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports. The 36-year-old landed on the injured list Saturday with a concerning diagnosis of forearm tightness, but the MRI indicates he's not dealing with a serious injury. Treinen will be eligible to return from the injured list in early May, though he could be sidelined a bit longer depending on the specifics of his rehab program. Tanner Scott should continue to operate as the Dodgers' main closer, with Kirby Yates and Evan Phillips potentially seeing some save chances while primarily working as setup men.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Lands on IL with forearm tightness

The Dodgers placed Treinen on the 15-day injured list Saturday due to right forearm tightness, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Manager Dave Roberts said Saturday that Treinen started feeling discomfort in his right forearm after his last outing against the Cubs on April 13. The hope was that some rest would improve the issue, but Treinen experienced more tightness in his forearm while warming up in the bullpen during Friday's contest against the Rangers, prompting his placement on the IL. Evan Phillips (shoulder) will be activated off the 15-day IL in a corresponding move, and he could see some save opportunities behind Tanner Scott for as long as Treinen is sidelined.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Hangs on for second save

Treinen earned the save in Wednesday's 6-5 win over Washington after allowing one hit and one walk in a scoreless ninth inning. It wasn't easy for the veteran right-hander, who allowed the potential tying and go-ahead runs to get into scoring position before getting James Wood to ground out to end the game. Treinen has now converted two of his three save chances to go with two holds thus far, posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB across six innings. Although southpaw Tanner Scott pitched the seventh inning Wednesday, it's worth noting he was summoned to protect a one-run lead against the top three members of Washington's batting order, two of which were left-handed hitters. The Dodgers figure to continue taking a committee approach based on matchups for ninth-inning work going forward, though Scott is the most desirable of the team's relievers from a fantasy perspective.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Tagged with loss, blown save Sunday

Treinen (0-1) took the loss and was charged with a blown save against Philadelphia on Sunday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk over one inning. Treinen entered in the bottom of the seventh inning after Los Angeles had rallied to take a one-run lead in the top of the frame. The right-hander found himself in quick trouble after he gave up a leadoff double to Bryce Harper followed by a walk to Max Kepler. After getting one out, Treinen then allowed two runs to cross the plate -- one on a single and one on a run-scoring groundout. It was an unusually subpar outing for the veteran reliever, who posted an ERA below 2.00 each of his previous three regular seasons and came into Sunday having pitched four scoreless innings to begin the campaign. He'll still be one of the Dodgers' top high-leverage arms and could get an occasional save chance, though Tanner Scott has emerged as the team's top closer.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Picks up save

Treinen allowed one hit and one walk while striking out two across a scoreless inning to earn the save Thursday against the Tigers. Alex Vesia and Tanner Scott were called upon in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively, to face lefty-heavy portions of the Tigers' lineup. That left Treinen in line to get the save, though he allowed the tying runner to reach scoring position and needed 23 pitches to get the three outs. Scott figures to get the majority of save chances for the Dodgers moving forward, though he could continue to be used earlier in contests in high-leverage spots against elite left-handed hitters.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Staying with Dodgers

Treinen signed a two-year, $22 million contract with the Dodgers on Sunday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Treinen will stick around Los Angeles after producing a 1.93 ERA and 0.94 WHIP with 56 strikeouts over 46.2 innings in 50 regular-season appearances with the Dodgers in 2024. The right-hander will likely operate in a late-inning role with the team in 2025, but he isn't a lock to get more than an occasional save chance. Treinen tallied one save and 16 holds for Los Angeles during the 2024 regular season.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Expected to return when eligible

Treinen (hip) has continued to play catch and will likely be activated from the 15-day injured list when first eligible, per MLB.com. Treinen went on the 15-day IL on Aug. 5, so the earliest he can be activated is Aug. 20. It appears likely that he will indeed return to the Dodgers' bullpen on that day, as his hip issue is not expected to be serious. Upon being activated, Treinen should slot back into a high-leverage role after posting a 2.67 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 38:9 K:BB over 30.1 innings while recording five wins, a save and nine holds.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Blows save chance Tuesday

Treinen blew a save in Tuesday's loss to the Padres, allowing two runs on two hits while also striking out two over an inning of work. Treinen was given the ball for the ninth inning with the Dodgers up 5-3 and could not convert. He allowed a first-pitch home run to Manny Machado before Jackson Merrill knotted things up with a home run of his own two batters later. Prior to his last two outings, Treinen had not given up an earned run the entire month of July spanning over 10 appearances, but he's now surrendered three runs on three homers over his last two appearances. The Dodgers' bullpen has been a mess in July, with four different pitchers garnering saves, as manager Dave Roberts has yet to figure out a permanent solution for their closer role. Treinen would've been the fifth reliever this month to record a save had he been able to convert. Still, the 35-year-old has posted good numbers overall with a 2.86 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 37:9 K:BB in 28.1 innings.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Collects seventh hold

Treinen earned a hold against Milwaukee on Saturday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work. Treinen entered in the seventh frame and retired the side in order on 11 pitches. The right-hander has given up an earned run in just two of his 23 appearances this season, resulting in a solid 2.61 ERA and 1.06 WHIP across 20.2 innings. Treinen hasn't shown much rust despite missing all of 2023 and most of 2022 due to a shoulder injury.

  • Dodgers' Blake Treinen: Faces high-leverage situation

Treinen pitched a clean eighth inning while striking out a batter to secure a hold in Sunday's 5-1 win over Atlanta. Treinen entered to begin the eighth with the Dodgers holding onto a 4-1 lead and retired Jarred Kelenic, Ronald Acuna and Ozzie Albies in order, needing just 11 pitches to get through the frame. It's clear right off the bat that Treinen has the trust of manager Dave Roberts in high-leverage situations and could be in the mix for the Dodgers' closer committee while Evan Phillips is sidelined with a hamstring strain.
