  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Homers in loss Friday

Altuve went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Friday's 9-4 loss to the Cardinals. Altuve took Kyle Leahy deep in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull Houston within one run. After batting .378 through the first 11 games of the season, Altuve is 8-for-38 (.211) over his last nine games. Altuve's homer Friday was his first RBI in that span. The second baseman is slashing .293/.404/.493 with three home runs, seven RBI, 15 runs scored, one stolen base and a 14:17 BB:K across 89 trips to the plate.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Receiving night off

Altuve is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies. Per Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle, manager Joe Espada said that Altuve's absence from the lineup is a routine rest day after the 35-year-old infielder started each of Houston's first 18 games. Isaac Paredes will spell Altuve at second base and will bat third.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Three hits in loss to Seattle

Altuve went 3-for-4 with a double in Sunday's 6-1 loss to the Mariners. The Astros tallied five hits as a team Sunday, and Altuve accounted for three of those, as Logan Gilbert surrendered just one run on four hits across seven innings. Altuve continued his hot start to the 2026 season, slashing .333/.457/.526 with two home runs, six RBI, 12 runs scored, one stolen base and a 13:12 BB:K across 70 plate appearances.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Reaches base four times Sunday

Altuve went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, two walks and two runs scored in Sunday's 12-10 loss to the Athletics. With lefty Jacob Lopez starting for the Athletics, Altuve hit leadoff and singled and scored in the fifth and doubled home a run in the eighth before scoring the tying run four batters later. He sandwiched two walks around his hits and reached base four times to push his slash line to an impressive .344/.523/.594 with two home runs, five RBI, 10 runs scored, one stolen base and a 12:7 BB:K across his first 44 plate appearances of the season.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Erupts with two homers

Altuve went 4-for-4 with two solo home runs, two singles, a walk and four runs scored in Monday's 8-1 win over the Red Sox. Altuve delivered a massive performance from the top of the lineup, reaching base in all five plate appearances while launching his first two home runs of the season in back-to-back trips to the plate. Both long balls came off Johan Oviedo and both cleared the left field porch to extend Houston's lead. While Altuve's no longer in his prime, flashes like this are a reminder that the elite bat speed that defined the 35-year-old's career is still very much there, and if the power sticks, he could push past his 2025 home run total of 26.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Focusing on second base this spring

Astros manager Joe Espada said Monday that Altuve will spend most of spring training working exclusively at second base, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Altuve was the Astros' Opening Day left fielder last season and wound up splitting his time pretty evenly between left field, second base and designated hitter. This season, however, he appears slated to return to his natural second base position on an everyday basis. Zach Cole looks like the favorite to see most of the reps in left field for Houston.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Healthy to start spring

Altuve (foot) is healthy to start spring training and is expected to serve as the Astros' primary second baseman this season, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Altuve dealt with a rocky transition to left field to start the 2025 campaign and finished the year with a nagging foot injury, resulting in a .265 batting average, the lowest of his career apart from the 2020 shortened season. Now healthy and back at second base, Altuve will look to rebound in 2026. Manager Joe Espada emphasized the 35-year-old Altuve's health earlier in the offseason, stating that he needs to "help Jose have the right amount of time to be off his feet." With Houston's current surplus of infielders, it seems likely that Altuve will at least play fewer than the 155 games he did in 2025.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Resumes workouts

Astros general manager Dana Brown said Monday that Altuve (foot) has resumed workouts, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Altuve underwent a minor procedure last month to remove fluid between the fourth and fifth toes on his right foot, an injury he played through down the stretch of the regular season. The 35-year-old is not expected to have any limitations at the start of spring training.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Undergoes minor procedure

Altuve underwent a procedure to remove fluid between the fourth and fifth toes on his right foot Monday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Altuve played through the issue for the final few weeks of the regular season after suffering the injury Sept. 13 against Atlanta. McTaggart described the procedure as a minor skin aspiration, and the expectation is that the 35-year-old will be ready for the start of spring training.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Played through painful foot injury

Altuve said during the final weekend of the regular season that he played through a "pretty painful" right foot injury and would visit with doctors in the offseason before determining a treatment plan, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Altuve injured his foot in mid-September and missed one game before gutting it out over the final two weeks of the regular season. It's unclear whether Altuve has met with doctors yet to have the foot examined. Altuve finished the 2025 season with a .265/.329/.442 batting line, 26 home runs and 10 stolen bases over 155 games. The 35-year-old split his time fairly evenly between second base, left field and designated hitter, and it's uncertain where the Astros will have Altuve slotted in in 2026.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Taking seat Sunday

Altuve is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. With Houston having been officially eliminated from playoff contention following Saturday's action, Altuve and other key regulars will sit for the season finale. Brice Matthews will step in at second base in place of Altuve, who has hit .265 with 26 home runs, 10 stolen bases, 77 RBI and 80 runs over 155 games on the campaign.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Logs two RBI in win

Altuve went 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored during the Astros' 11-5 win over the Athletics on Thursday. Altuve was one of four Astros players to record two RBI or more in Thursday's series finale. He has tallied at least two hits in three of his last five games, going 7-for-17 (.412) with one steal and three RBI over that span.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Records 10th steal

Altuve went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, one RBI and one stolen base in Sunday's 7-3 loss to the Mariners. This was Altuve's second multi-hit effort in a row but just his fourth such game in all of September. The 35-year-old is batting just .203 (13-for-64) over 18 games this month, adding three home runs and 10 RBI in that span. For the season, he's posted a .265/.327/.444 slash line with 26 homers, 75 RBI, 78 runs scored and 10 steals across 150 contests.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Tags deGrom for two-run HR

Altuve went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Wednesday in a 5-2 victory against the Rangers. Altuve's lone hit was a two-run homer off Jacob deGrom in the third inning that snapped a 2-2 tie. The veteran second baseman hasn't hit well in September -- he's at a .170 batting average through 15 games -- but he has gone deep three times and racked up nine RBI. With 26 homers on the campaign, Altuve has long surpassed the 20 home runs he swatted across 153 regular-season contests last year.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Knocks in two

Altuve went 1-for-2 with two RBI on Tuesday against the Rangers. Altuve started his second consecutive game since returning from a foot injury. He tallied a sacrifice fly in the first inning before delivering an RBI single three frames later. While this was a positive performance, Altuve has gone only 8-for-49 (.163) with seven RBI and five runs scored across 14 games in September.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Rejoining lineup Monday

Altuve (foot) will start at second base and bat cleanup in Monday's game against the Rangers, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Altuve was held out for Sunday's 8-3 loss to Atlanta after he was still experiencing soreness on the bottom of his right foot following his early exit a day earlier, but the one start off appears to have provided sufficient healing time for the 35-year-old. The Astros' decision to use him at second base rather than at designated hitter in his return to the lineup supports the notion that he's feeling healthy heading into a six-game homestand against the Rangers and Mariners this week.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Not starting Sunday

Altuve (foot) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against Atlanta, and manager joe Espada said that the 35-year-old is still feeling "pretty sore" as he continues to be evaluated by team doctors, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. The 35-year-old exited Saturday's 6-2 win due to right foot discomfort and continues to manage the injury Sunday. Altuve will miss at least one start, and it remains to be seen if he'll be available off the bench for the series finale. Yordan Alvarez will serve as Houston's designated hitter Sunday, and Zach Cole will pick up a start in left field.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Pulled with foot issue

Altuve was removed from Saturday's game against Atlanta due to right foot discomfort, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Altuve was replaced at second base by Ramon Urias in the bottom of the third inning. Prior to his exit, Altuve went 1-for-2 with a single. More will likely be known about the extent of his injury after he's further evaluated.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Belts homer No. 25

Altuve went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Friday's 11-3 win over Atlanta. The 35-year-old took Dane Dunning deep in the sixth inning, giving Altuve his 25th homer of the season -- the fourth time he's reached that milestone in his career. He's been struggling down the stretch, batting just .146 (6-for-41) so far in September, but Altuve will remain an everyday player for the Astros as they battle the Mariners down the stretch for the AL West crown.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Day off amidst slump

Altuve is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in Toronto. Altuve enters action Wednesday having gone just 2-for-29 at the plate over his last seven games, so he will get a day off to regroup. Ramon Urias will handle second base and Victor Caratini will be in the designated-hitter spot for the Astros.
