Player Outlook
Charlie Blackmon missed two months of action around the middle of last season due to a fractured hand. He was reasonably productive when on the field and particularly so after returning from the injury, slashing .297/.386/.466 over his final 40 contests. That strong finish seemed to convince the Rockies to bring the 37-year-old back for one more season, as they inked him to a one-year extension in late September. With a .905 OPS at home versus just a .666 OPS on the road in 2023, Blackmon returning to Colorado was probably his only shot to retain mixed-league relevancy. Blackmon doesn't offer much power at this point in his career and he's basically a zero on the basepaths. However, he remains a good bet for average and would seem to be in line to bat leadoff again for the Rockies in 2024.

  • Rockies' Charlie Blackmon: Out again due to hamstring issue

Blackmon is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds due to a slight right hamstring injury, MLB.com reports. Manager Bud Black said that Blackmon "tweaked" his hamstring while making a sliding catch during Monday's 6-0 loss to the Reds. The lefty-hitting Blackmon received a planned day off Tuesday while the Reds sent southpaw Nick Lodolo to the mound, but the 38-year-old's continued absences from the lineup against right-handed starters Frankie Montas and Hunter Greene on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, signals that Blackmon is still being slowed by the injury. Blackmon had been available for pinch-hitting duties in Wednesday's 6-5 win but went unused, so he could once again be a candidate to come off the bench Thursday.

Blackmon is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Cincinnati. The lefty-hitting Blackmon sat out Tuesday's 12-6 loss with a lefty (Nick Lodolo) on the mound, but it's a bit more surprising that he's on the bench again Wednesday while right-hander Frankie Montas takes the hill for Cincinnati. The Rockies will give Brenton Doyle a start at designated hitter in Blackmon's stead while Sam Hilliard patrols center field.
