Perez went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's Cactus League win over the Angels. Perez showed off an unforeseen power and speed combination Thursday, though he shouldn't be expected to run much when the regular season starts. The catcher has never attempted more than two steals in a season, and he has just six stolen bases in his career. He'll be looking to bounce back in the power department after slugging a three-year low .465 with 23 homers and 23 doubles in 114 contests in 2022. Perez should see the bulk of the playing time behind the dish with MJ Melendez spelling him at times, though the veteran could often serve as the designated hitter when he's not catching.... Royals' Salvador Perez: Remains on bench
Perez (thumb) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Guardians. Perez's sore left thumb will keep him on the bench for the second day in a row, but the Royals haven't yet placed him on the injured list and presumably remain hopeful that he might be able to start in either of the remaining two games on the team's 2022 schedule. MJ Melendez will get a turn behind the dish Monday in Perez's stead.... See More ... See Less -

Royals' Salvador Perez: Makes precautionary exit
Perez left Saturday's game in the seventh inning with thumb soreness, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. Perez's early exit was considered precautionary, and it's possible he still plays Sunday. It wasn't obvious the thumb was bothering him, as he went 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in the contest. He's up to 23 homers in 114 games this season, which has seen him bothered by his thumb at various times since May.... See More ... See Less -

Royals' Salvador Perez: Swats 21st homer
Perez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a loss to the Twins on Thursday. Perez brought Kansas City within a run with his solo shot off Dylan Bundy in the fourth inning, but that ended up being the final run of the contest. The long ball was his 21st of the season, tied for third-most among MLB catchers. While he remains one of the league's most powerful backstops, Perez won't approach the 48 long balls he slammed last season.... See More ... See Less -

The catcher is up to a .236/.276/.456 slash line with 65 RBI, 40 runs scored, 18 doubles and 20 homers, with the latter figure marking the sixth time in his 11-year career he's reached that milestone....
