  • Padres' Manny Machado: Agrees to $350 million extension

Machado and the Padres are finalizing an 11-year, $350 million extension Sunday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. The 30-year-old had six years and $180 million remaining on his previous contract (including the upcoming campaign) but recently confirmed plans to exercise his opt-out at the end of the 2023 season. Instead, he's reached a new deal with San Diego that should keep him around until 2034. Machado delivered his typical All-Star level of production last season with an .897 OPS, 32 home runs, 37 doubles, 102 RBI and 100 runs in 150 games, which earned him second place in voting for the National League MVP.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Solo shot in loss

Machado went 2-for-4 with a solo home run during Saturday's 10-6 loss to the Phillies in Game 4 of the NLCS. Machado hit a 100-mph line drive off Phillies starter Bailey Falter that reached the left field bleachers to give the Padres a 1-0 lead in the first inning of Game 4. Machado has now homered in two of the past three games, and he has reached four postseason homers for the first time in his career. The 30-year-old righty also continued his streak of multi-hit performances following hitless games, which he has now accomplished in seven straight instances. Machado is slated to face starter Zack Wheeler in a must-win Game 5 -- he is 2-for-11 with two singles against Wheeler in his career.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Goes yard in Game 2

Machado went 3-for-5 with a solo home run and a double during Wednesday's 8-5 win over the Phillies in Game 2 of the NLCS. Machado's solo shot in the eighth inning off David Robertson gave the Padres a four-run cushion, and they ultimately held on to even the NLCS at 1-1. This game marked Machado's fourth multi-hit performance of the postseason, bringing his average up to .306 across 36 plate appearances. Machado has demonstrated an unbelievable ability to bounce back from poor showings. The last six times the star third baseman has gone hitless, he has followed up with a multi-hit performance.

Over his last seven games, he's gone 4-for-26 (.154), and his homer Sunday was his first extra-base hit in that span. Extended slumps have been rare for the third baseman this year, as evidenced by his sturdy .296/.365/.531 slash line through 136 games. • Padres' Manny Machado: Homers twice against former club

Machado went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Saturday's loss to the Dodgers. The All-Star third baseman is up to 28 long balls on the campaign, matching his mark from last season. If he goes deep twice more in the regular season, Machado will notch his sixth career campaign of 30-plus homers, which would be his first since 2019.

Machado went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Giants. Machado hit a solo shot in the fifth inning and finished with his 29th multi-hit performance of the campaign. Perhaps the addition of Soto and Josh Bell will inspire a resurgence of Machado's bat -- the third baseman had been slashing .191/.278/.426 in 12 second-half games prior to Wednesday.
