LeMahieu could be the current favorite to start at third base for the Yankees, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports. Sherman said Monday on the Pinstripe Post podcast that he believes the Yankees are "going to try to take another look at LeMahieu" and that LeMahieu's likeliest position is third base. Jazz Chisholm ended the 2024 season at the hot corner for the Yanks, but the club seems to prefer him at second base. It could all be a moot point if the team winds up acquiring a player at either of those positions, but for now, LeMahieu looks to be in line to handle the hot corner. The 36-year-old had just a .527 OPS over 67 games during an injury-shortened 2024 campaign.... See More ... See Less

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Aiming to be available for ALDS
LeMahieu (hip) expects to ramp up baseball activities over the next few days as he aims to be available for the ALDS, Max Goodman of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. LeMahieu isn't a given to be included on the Yankees' ALDS roster next week even if he's deemed healthy, but he at least wants to put himself in position to be an option. The veteran infielder has been sidelined since early September with a right hip impingement.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Resumes baseball activities
LeMahieu (hip) has been doing some baseball activities, including hitting off a tee, Greg Joyce of the New York Post reports. LeMahieu landed on the injured list Sept. 9 due to a right hip impingement. The veteran infielder hasn't been ruled out from returning before the end of the regular season, though it's unclear how close he may be to being ready to play in games. LeMahieu will likely take on a bench role if he's able to play again this season, as the Yankees are set across the infield and have Giancarlo Stanton locked in as the everyday DH.... See More ... Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Heads to IL with hip impingement
The Yankees placed LeMahieu on the 10-day injured list Monday with a right hip impingement. The transaction is retroactive to Friday, though LeMahieu hadn't appeared in any games for the Yankees since last Tuesday. The 36-year-old had put together a modest five-game hit streak prior to landing on the IL, but he wasn't in store for meaningful playing time at either of the corner-infield spots with Anthony Rizzo and Jazz Chisholm locked in as starters at first and third base, respectively.... Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Drawing start in series finale
LeMahieu (face) will start at first base and bat ninth in Sunday's game against the Rockies. LeMahieu had been included in the initial lineup for Friday's series opener while lefty Kyle Freeland was scheduled to start for Colorado, but the Yankees scratched the veteran infielder after he was hit in the face by a baseball during pregame warmups. Fortunately for LeMahieu, he sustained only cosmetic damage to his face, as he cleared concussion protocol. LeMahieu will be back in the lineup for the series finale as a replacement for the lefty-hitting Ben Rice at first base while the Rockies go with another left-handed starter (Austin Gomber).... Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Clears concussion protocol
Manager Aaron Boone said Saturday that LeMahieu's condition has improved and he's cleared concussion protocol, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports. LeMahieu was scratched from the Yankees' lineup Friday after taking a ball off his face during pregame warmups, though he escaped with just bruising. He'll remain out of the lineup for Saturday's contest but should be able to return to action within the next few days.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Precautionarily scratched
LeMahieu was hit in the face by a ball during warmups and was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Rockies, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. LeMahieu appeared to be fine after the incident, but the Yankees will play it safe and give him the night off. The 35-year-old was slated to play first base and bat ninth, but both of those slots will be filled by Ben Rice instead. LeMahieu should be considered day-to-day.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Absent from lineup
LeMahieu is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians. The Guardians are sending left-hander Joey Cantillo to the hill, but it will be left-handed-hitting Ben Rice occupying first base for the Yankees. LeMahieu had started nine of the previous 12 contests at first base but is slashing a paltry .211/.244/.237 over that span.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Getting regular at-bats vs. lefties
LeMahieu will start at first base and bat ninth in Monday's game against the White Sox. LeMahieu will remain in the lineup for the fourth time in five games, but all four starts have come against left-handed pitching. The Yankees are seemingly viewing LeMahieu as a short-side platoon player these days with left-handed hitters Ben Rice and Jazz Chisholm holding down the fort at the two corner-infield spots.... Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Powers Yankees to win
LeMahieu went 2-for-4 with a grand slam and a two-run double in Wednesday's 6-5 win over the Phillies. Making his first start in five games, LeMahieu would ultimately drive in all six of New York's runs in the winning effort -- he launched a grand slam off Cristopher Sanchez in the second inning to give the Yankees an early 4-0 cushion before extending the lead to 6-3 in the sixth with a two-out, RBI double off Jose Ruiz. It was a much-needed performance for LeMahieu, whose last multi-hit game came on July 9. He'd gone just 2-for-32 (.068) in his subsequent 14 contests. Despite his effort Wednesday, LeMahieu is still likely stuck on the short side of a platoon with Ben Rice at first base, with Jazz Chisholm taking over at third. LeMahieu's still slashing just .182/.270/.252 through 164 plate appearances this year with two homers, 19 RBI and 13 runs scored.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Filling short-side platoon role
LeMahieu will start at first base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Phillies. After being held out of the lineup for each of the last four games, LeMahieu will draw back into the starting nine for the series finale in Philadelphia. He'll be filling in at first base for the left-handed-hitting Ben Rice, who takes a seat while the Phillies send lefty Cristopher Sanchez to the hill. LeMahieu looks like he'll have to settle for a short-side platoon role moving forward while he's slashed just .194/.279/.255 against right-handed pitching so far this season.... See More ... Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Sitting again Saturday
LeMahieu is not in the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Red Sox. LeMahieu will sit for a second straight game. He pinch hit for Ben Rice in Friday's 9-7 loss to Boston, striking out in his lone plate appearance in the ninth inning. Oswaldo Cabrera will start at third base Saturday and bat ninth against Red Sox right-hander Brayan Bello.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Belts first homer of season
LeMahieu went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk Monday in a 9-1 win against Tampa Bay. LeMahieu is in the midst of a career-worst campaign that has not only threatened to take him out of an everyday role but also pushed him down to the No. 9 slot in the lineup Monday. The veteran may have bought himself a little more leeway with his fifth-inning solo shot against the Rays. It was his first long ball of the campaign and his first hit of any sort over his past seven contests. Despite Monday's glimmer of hope, LeMahieu is still slashing a paltry .181/.276/.228 through 146 plate appearances on the campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: On bench, could lose everyday role
LeMahieu is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. The veteran infielder has a .472 OPS through 39 games this season and is hitting .154 with one extra-base hit in 39 at-bats during July. According to Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News, manager Aaron Boone wouldn't commit to LeMahieu being back in the lineup in Monday's series finale, perhaps signaling that the 36-year-old's time as an everyday player could be nearing its end.... Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Taking seat Sunday
LeMahieu is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles. LeMahieu took a seat for Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Rays after he was hit by a pitch on his left pinkie finger Wednesday, but he was back in the lineup for the first two games of the Yankees' series in Baltimore. After going hitless in eight at-bats between Friday and Saturday, LeMahieu will hit the bench Sunday for what appears to be a maintenance day heading into the All-Star break. Oswaldo Cabrera will replace LeMahieu at third base.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Back in lineup Friday
LeMahieu is starting at third base and leading off for the Yankees on Friday. LeMahieu was held out of Thursday's contest after he was hit by a pitch on his left pinkie finger and later fouled a ball off his neck Wednesday. A CT scan on his neck came back clean, so Thursday's absence was likely precautionary. LeMahieu has hit .417 (5-for-12) over his past four games.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Not in Thursday's lineup
LeMahieu is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds. LeMahieu started the previous five games and will receive a day off after he went 4-for-19 with two doubles, three walks and three RBI in that stretch. Oswaldo Cabrera will take over at the hot corner Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Halts slump with two hits
LeMahieu went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI and a run scored Sunday against the Blue Jays. LeMahieu entered the game mired in a 6-for-42 (.143) slump but collected a couple of base hits, each of which brought in a run, while also adding just his second extra-base hit of the campaign. Despite being unable to find his footing at the plate, LeMahieu, who raised his season average to .188 thanks to Sunday's effort, has maintained a regular role in the Yankees' lineup since returning from the IL in late May due to a fractured foot.... Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Getting breather
LeMahieu is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against Atlanta. After making six consecutive starts, LeMahieu will get the night off Saturday. Instead, Oswaldo Cabrera will play third and bat ninth.... See More ... See Less -
Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Absent from lineup
LeMahieu is not in the lineup for Friday's contest in Boston. He will yield to Oswaldo Cabrera at third base as the Yankees begin a weekend series against their AL East rivals. LeMahieu has just a .497 OPS and zero extra-base hits in 13 games since coming off the injured list.... See More ... See Less
