  • Angels' Ehire Adrianza: Not yet doing baseball activities

Adrianza (back) had not yet resumed baseball activities as of May 28, per MLB.com. Adrianza has been out of action since early May due to back spasms. • Angels' Ehire Adrianza: Receives injection in back

Adrianza received an injection in his back Thursday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. The injection was issued to relieve back spasms that caused Adrianza to land on the 10-day injured list May 9. Before being placed on the IL, Adrianza was 5-for-26 with one home run and two RBI in eight games.

  • Angels' Ehire Adrianza: Lands on injured list

The Angels placed Adrianza on the 10-day injured list Friday with back spasms, retroactive to Thursday. Adrianza reported having problems with his lower back Friday, and the issue is apparently severe enough to warrant a trip to the injured list. Niko Goodrum will join the active roster to take Adrianza's spot after being claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay on Thursday.

  • Angels' Ehire Adrianza: Dealing with back problems

Adrianza said Friday that he has experienced issues with his lower back, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. It's uncertain whether or not Adrianza will require a trip to the injured list, but he said he received an MRI on Friday, which should help determine how long he may be out for. The 34-year-old has played in eight games since joining the Angels in late April, slashing .192/.250/.346 with two RBI in 28 plate appearances.

  • Angels' Ehire Adrianza: Retreating to bench

Adrianza is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians. Adrianza had started each of the past three games at third base while going 1-for-11 with a solo home run. Even with Miguel Sano (knee) on the injured list and with Luis Rengifo (illness) out of the lineup for the second game in a row, Adrianza will cede the hot corner to Cole Tucker in the series finale.

  • Angels' Ehire Adrianza: First MLB homer since 2021

Adrianza went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Phillies. Adrianza notched his first round-tripper in 132 at-bats, dating back to October 2021. After spending early portions of the season in Triple-A Salt Lake, Adrianza was called up on April 21 with Anthony Rendon (hamstring) moved to the IL. Since then, Adrianza has gone 4-for-15 (.267) with three runs scored and two RBI.

  • Angels' Ehire Adrianza: Contract selected by Halos

The Angels selected Adrianza's contract from Triple-A Salt Lake on Sunday. The 34-year-old joined the Halos on a minor-league deal in February and has joined the big club with Anthony Rendon (hamstring) headed to the injured list. Adrianza made just five appearances with Atlanta last season but got off to a hot start at Salt Lake in 2024 with a .992 OPS in 53 plate appearances.

  • Angels' Ehire Adrianza: Catches on with Halos

Adrianza agreed to a minor-league contract with the Angels on Friday that includes an invite to major-league spring training, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Registerreports. • Ehire Adrianza: Elects free agency

Adrianza elected free agency Monday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Adrianza cleared waivers after being removed from Atlanta's 40-man roster last week and will now get an early start to free agency. The utility player missed a large chunk of the 2023 season with elbow and shoulder injuries but his versatility will be appealing to some teams, albeit probably on a minor-league deal.

  • Braves' Ehire Adrianza: Activated, loses roster spot

Atlanta reinstated Adrianza (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list and designated him for assignment Monday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. With Triple-A Gwinnett's season coming to an end Sunday, Adrianza's minor-league rehab assignment simultaneously concluded. Over an 11-game stint with Gwinnett, Adrianza batted just .152, and though he's seemingly healthy again, Atlanta didn't have room for him on its roster. Atlanta will proceed with Nicky Lopez and Luke Williams as its primary utility men for the final week of the regular season.

  • Braves' Ehire Adrianza: Moves rehab to Triple-A

Adrianza (elbow/shoulder) shifted his rehab assignment Tuesday from High-A Rome to Triple-A Gwinnett. Adrianza went 1-for-5 with a double and two walks during his three-game stay in the South Atlantic League and is now just one step away from returning to Atlanta's active major-league roster. The veteran utility infielder has been out since early May due to elbow and shoulder injuries.

  • Braves' Ehire Adrianza: Starting rehab assignment

Adrianza (elbow/shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Rome on Tuesday. • Braves' Ehire Adrianza: Moved to 60-day IL

Adrianza was transferred to the 60-day injured list by Atlanta on Friday with a left shoulder strain. Adrianza had been set to return from his right elbow injury soon but evidently must have hurt his shoulder while on a rehab assignment. He now won't be eligible for activation until early July.

  • Braves' Ehire Adrianza: On track for weekend return

Adrianza (elbow) appears on track to be activated from the injured list this weekend, Grant McAuley of 929 The Game reports. Braden Shewmake was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday, during a scheduled off day for Atlanta, and it looks like Adrianza's activation could be the corresponding move Friday. Out since May 5 due to right elbow inflammation, the veteran utility infielder has gone 5-for-14 (.357) with four RBI through four rehab games at High-A Rome.

  • Braves' Ehire Adrianza: Launching rehab assignment

Adrianza (elbow) will start his rehab assignment with High-A Rome on Thursday. Adrianza went on the 10-day injured list with right elbow inflammation May 5 and will now start the process of returning to the big leagues. With the 33-year-old eligible to be reinstated Friday, the rehab assignment will likely be a short one. Adrianza has gone hitless over 10 at-bats with Atlanta in 2023, operating as a backup option in both the infield and outfield.

  • Braves' Ehire Adrianza: Goes to IL with elbow injury

Adrianza was placed on the 10-day injured list by Atlanta on Friday with right elbow inflammation. The move is retroactive to May 2, so Adrianza will be eligible to return when Atlanta begins a road trip May 12. Braden Shewmake has taken his spot on the roster.

  • Braves' Ehire Adrianza: Officially joins big-league roster

Adrianza had his contract selected by Atlanta on Thursday. The 33-year-old earned a spot on Atlanta's Opening Day roster and has now officially been added to the 26-man and 40-man rosters. Adrianza will fill a utility role and begins the season as the primary backup option at second base, shortstop and third base.

  • Braves' Ehire Adrianza: Opening year in utility role

Adrianza will begin the season as Atlanta's primary utility infielder. The decision to send both Vaughn Grissom and Braden Shewmake to Triple-A Gwinnett was in part prompted by the team's desire to have maximum middle infield depth, which means (eventually) adding Adrianza to the 40-man roster and keeping him on the big-league bench rather than letting him go. The 33-year-old switch hitter saw time at second base, third base, shortstop and left field in 2022, but his .470 OPS over 110 plate appearances between Atlanta and the Nationals -- the second time in the last three seasons he's posted a sub-.600 OPS -- doesn't exactly suggest he would have been hard to replace. If Orlando Arcia gets replaced as the starting shortstop by either Shewmake or Grissom, he would presumably take Adrianza's utility role and bump him to the waiver wire.

  • Braves' Ehire Adrianza: Back in Atlanta as NRI

Adrianza signed a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Friday, which includes an invitation to spring training, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Adrianza was a decent super utility guy for the team in 2021 and Atlanta wound up re-acquiring him at the 2022 trade deadline from the Nationals. It seems manager Brian Snitker has an affinity for the 33-year-old, although Atlanta will hope it doesn't have to use him too much in 2023.
