  • Dillon Gee: Calls it quits

Gee announced his retirement from baseball Monday via his personal Instagram account.

Gee was reportedly pursuing opportunities to play overseas at the beginning of January, but he'll call it a career after evidently having a chance of heart. He last pitched in the big leagues in 2017 across stops with Minnesota and Texas, posting a 3.47 ERA and 1.40 WHIP with 41 punchouts across 49.1 frames. Gee spent the first six seasons of his career with the Mets and will finish with a 4.09 ERA in 853.2 frames over eight years in the majors.

  • Dillon Gee: Heads overseas

Gee signed a one-year deal with Japan's Chunichi Dragons on Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

Gee's contract will be between $1.5-to-$2 million for this upcoming season, pending a physical. According to Rosenthal, Gee's plan is to re-establish himself as a starting pitcher, which he wasn't able to consistently demonstrate in 2017, and then return to the majors the following season. During 49.1 innings last year, the 31-year-old posted a 3.47 ERA and 1.40 WHIP while sporting a 41:15 K:BB during his time with the Twins and Rangers.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Will move to relief

Gee won't make his next scheduled start Wednesday against the Rays and will move to the bullpen for the time being, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Manager Paul Molitor decided he had seen enough from Gee in a starting role after the right-hander failed to escape the third inning in his most recent outing Friday against the Royals, conceding five runs on six hits and three walks. Gee will be replaced in the rotation by Aaron Slegers, who will be recalled from Triple-A Rochester in advance of Wednesday's contest.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Decimated by Royals

Gee (1-2) was rocked for five runs on six hits and three walks with two strikeouts over just 2.2 innings as he took the loss Friday to the Royals.

Coming into this game, the Twins were getting some decent results out of Gee while their rotation deals with multiple injuries, but the other shoe finally dropped Friday night. Gee posted just one season with an ERA under 4.00 when he pitched for the Mets, and there was little reason to believe his improvement in 2017 through just 35.2 innings was real. This start alone pushed Gee's ERA up from 3.58 to 4.46. The Twins, however, may have little choice but to keep relying on him as a starter despite his inadequacy for the role.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Start moved to Friday

Gee will now start Friday's game against the Blue Jays, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Gee was initially expected to start Saturday, but he'll now get the ball for Friday's series opener while flipping places in the rotation with Kyle Gibson. He held his own in a recent spot start against the White Sox, allowing one run over six innings.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Will start Saturday

Gee will remain in the starting rotation for the time being and start Saturday's game against the Blue Jays, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

The Twins are currently hindered by a plethora of injuries to their starting pitchers, so they'll grant Gee another turn in the rotation. He allowed one run over six innings in his Monday start against the White Sox, but he'll receive a tougher test next time around as he's scheduled to square off against the Blue Jays in Toronto on Saturday.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Grabs first win of 2017

Gee (1-0) allowed a single run on two hits while striking out four batters through six innings during Monday's win over the White Sox.

This was just the second start of the season for Gee (and his first with Minnesota), as he's mainly been used as a reliever this year. There's a chance that he sticks in the rotation for another turn, but expectations should remain in check since he hasn't been stretched out enough to pitch deep into games. He threw just 69 pitches Monday, after all.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Will start Monday

Gee has been confirmed as one of the starters for Monday's doubleheader against the White Sox, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

It remains to be seen whether he will start the day game or the night game, but Gee will get the ball Monday and could conceivably stick in the rotation after that start, as the Twins only have four starting pitchers locked in going forward. Tim Melville will start the other half of the doubleheader, so the fifth spot in the rotation could come down to which of those two is more impressive. Gee gave up four runs over 3.1 innings in his only other start this year and posted a 5.55 ERA in 14 starts in 2016, so he should be avoided for now in most formats.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Possible candidate for Monday start

Gee could join the rotation for Monday's doubleheader against the White Sox, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.

Manager Paul Molitor told Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune that Gee was a candidate to move into the rotation this past weekend, and with a pair of doubleheaders and no scheduled off days on the horizon, the right-hander appears likely to be thrown into the ring for one of Monday's contests. Gee provided 3.1 innings during a spot start with the Rangers earlier this season, but has only made 22 starts since the 2014 season. With Adalberto Mejia (arm) and Dietrich Enns (shoulder) on the disabled list, it seems natural that Gee would toe the rubber against Chicago, although clarity to the situation should become present within the next couple days.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Records save, but could move to rotation

Gee did not give up a run in the final four innings of Tuesday's 11-4 win over the Brewers to earn a save. He's a candidate to move into the rotation Sunday against Detroit with Adalberto Mejia being placed on the disabled list with an arm injury, manager Paul Molitor told Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

Gee isn't in the closer mix as he got a save for pitching the final three innings in a win. He had a 2.00 ERA and 20:3 K:BB in 27 innings (five starts) with Triple-A Rochester, which also bolsters his case to move into the rotation if there's an opening.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Will work out of bullpen in near term

Gee will pitch out of the Twins' bullpen in the near-term, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

The Twins won't require a fifth starter until Saturday, so Gee may be called upon to eat up innings in relief prior to that date. Depending on his workload in the coming days, it's possible that Kyle Gibson could be recalled from Triple-A Rochester to start Saturday's contest. Otherwise, if his arm is fresh, Gee seems the likely candidate to take the mound Saturday against the Rangers.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Officially receives call-up

Gee had his contract purchased from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

As expected, Gee will take the place of Jaime Garcia on the active roster. He'll likely slot into the starting rotation Saturday against the Rangers, though that could ultimately change if he's used out of the bullpen in the coming days. Although he's posted a solid 2.00 ERA and 20:3 K:BB through 27 innings (five starts) with Triple-A Rochester, the 31-year-old compiled a 4.15 ERA and 10:6 K:BB through 13 major-league innings earlier in the year, so there are probably better fantasy options available.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Expecting call up Tuesday

Gee will have his contract purchased from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

A spot opened up in the Twins' starting rotation after Jaime Garcia was traded to the Yankees, and it appears Gee may slide in as a temporary replacement. He's compiled a 2.00 ERA and 20:3 K:BB through five starts (27 innings) with Triple-A Rochester, though his 4.15 ERA and 10:6 K:BB in 13 major-league innings this season make him a less appealing streaming option. He'll likely slide into the rotation for Saturday's game against the Rangers.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Placed on waivers Monday

Gee was placed on outright waivers Monday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Gee inked a minor-league deal with the Twins on June 20, but he's already been shown the door despite 15 innings of scoreless ball with Triple-A Rochester. His removal from the 40-man roster opens up a spot for Tuesday's starter, Bartolo Colon.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Candidate for spot start Tuesday

Gee is a candidate to start Tuesday's game against the Yankees, Mike Berardino of The Pioneer-Press reports.

There's an open spot in the rotation for Tuesday, and Bartolo Colon's subpar debut at Triple-A Rochester may have taken him out of the running to make that start. Meanwhile, Gee has thrown eight scoreless innings across two starts at Rochester since joining the Twins organization earlier in the summer. Look for the Twins to make an announcement on Gee's status in the coming days.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Optioned to Rochester

Gee was sent down to Triple-A Rochester after Monday's game, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

Gee didn't appear once in his short time with the Twins. His experience as a major-league starter and ability to eat innings make his presence in the organization worthwhile, but it's not surprising that he didn't stick with the Twins -- the 1.77 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB he posted in 13 innings with the Rangers earlier this season weren't terribly inspiring.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Joining big-league club

The Twins selected Gee's contract from Triple-A Rochester on Friday.

Gee is expected to work as a long reliever initially after taking the 25-man roster spot of Nik Turley, who was optioned to Rochester following his start Thursday. It's expected that Hector Santiago (shoulder), who made a rehab start at Triple-A on Wednesday, will enter the rotation when the Twins require a fifth starter next week. Gee owns a 4.15 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP in 13 major-league innings this year with the Rangers and will probably need to perform well out of the bullpen before getting a look in the rotation.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: To join big league club Friday

Gee will be recalled in advance of Friday's series opener against the Indians, Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN reports.

The Twins have a pair of roster openings with Nik Turley being optioned after a rough start Thursday and Ehire Adrianza landing on the disabled list. Minnesota will need to clear a spot on the 40-man roster before officially bringing up Gee, however. Gee has four major league appearances this season, notching a 4.15 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP across 13.0 innings with the Rangers. He has the ability to fill in as a spot starter but could also take on a long relief role.

  • Twins' Dillon Gee: Joins Twins on minors deal

Gee agreed to a minor-league deal with the Twins on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of FanRagSports.com reports.

Gee was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Friday and ultimately elected for free agency as opposed to accepting his assignment to Triple-A Round Rock. The veteran pitcher wasn't a free agent for long, as the Twins have decided to take a shot on the 31-year-old. He'll report to Triple-A Rochester with his sights set on working his way back the majors.
