Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Tuesday that Heyward (back) is still experiencing "residual soreness" and isn't yet swinging a bat, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. The veteran outfielder hoped to return when first eligible after he landed on the 10-day injured list April 3 with back soreness, but he's still having issues nearly three weeks later. Heyward will need some time to build back up once cleared to swing before starting a rehab assignment, so he's likely at least a few weeks away from rejoining the Dodgers.... See More ... See Less

Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Still experiencing soreness
Heyward (back) continues to deal with soreness and will be required to complete a minor-league rehab assignment before being activated from the 10-day injured list, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports. Manager Dave Roberts didn't indicate when Heyward might get the green light to head out on a rehab stint, as the club will likely wait until he's feeling closer to 100 percent before allowing him to move to the next step. Chris Taylor and Enrique Hernandez should continue to see an uptick in opportunities in the corner outfield while Heyward returns to health.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Hopes to return when eligible
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Friday that he's optimistic Heyward (back) will be ready to return from the IL when first eligible April 13, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. Heyward landed on the injured list earlier this week with lower-back tightness, an issue which the outfielder said was cropping up on days he was coming off the bench. It's not clear whether Heyward might be asked to go out on a short rehab assignment before being activated.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Lands on injured list
The Dodgers placed Heyward on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with lower-back tightness, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Heyward's back has caused him to miss the Dodgers' last two games, and it will keep him out for at least another 10 days as he moves to the IL. Imaging on his back didn't reveal any significant damage, so an extended absence isn't expected at this time for the 34-year-old outfielder. The Dodgers claimed Taylor Trammell off waivers from the Mariners on Tuesday and added him to the active roster to serve as Heyward's replacement.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Dealing with back tightness
Heyward (back) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Giants, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports. Heyward sat out of Sunday's game against the Cardinals due to left-hander Steven Matz starting, and Heyward will sit out for a second straight game after his back tightened up. Teoscar Hernandez will draw the start in right field and bat sixth Monday against Giants right-hander Keaton Winn.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Out of lineup versus southpaw
Heyward is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. Heyward will unsurprisingly be on the bench for Sunday's series finale since lefty Steven Matz is on the mound for St. Louis. Chris Taylor will start in left field, pushing Teoscar Hernandez to right.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Sits down versus southpaw
Heyward isn't in the Dodgers' lineup Friday against St. Louis. The lefty-hitting Heyward will begin Friday's contest on the bench with southpaw Zack Thompson on the hill for the Cardinals. Heyward's absence will cause Teoscar Hernandez to slide over to right field as Chris Taylor fills the void in left.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: In lineup Thursday
Heyward (back) will start in right field and bat eighth Thursday against the Cardinals. Back tightness prevented Heyward from playing in the Dodgers' final spring training game Tuesday, but the issue appears to have subsided ahead of Thursday's contest. Heyward slashed .250/.276/.429 across 29 spring plate appearances and is already 2-for-6 with two RBI in the regular season after Los Angeles' series against the Padres in South Korea.... Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Reaches deal to stay in L.A.
Heyward agreed Monday with the Dodgers on a one-year, $9 million contract, Kiley McDaniel of ESPN.com reports. Heyward and the Dodgers will run it back after he was surprisingly productive in 2023, slashing .269/.340/.473 with 15 home runs and 40 RBI over 377 plate appearances. His .813 OPS this past season was his highest mark since 2012, excluding the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign. The 34-year-old should fill a similar role again in 2024, starting in right field against righties while occasionally filling in as a center fielder. The Dodgers' decision to bring back Heyward also means that Mookie Betts will continue to see more action at second base.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Breaks slump in Coors Field
Heyward went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in a 4-1 loss to the Rockies during the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader. The Dodgers romped to an 11-2 win in the nightcap, but Heyward didn't get much help in the matinee as he snapped an 0-for-16 mini-slump by producing his fourth September game with three or more hits. The roller coaster ride has left the veteran outfielder with a .328/.350/.534 slash line in 60 plate appearances on the month with six doubles, two homers, five RBI and eight runs.... See More ... Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Hits bench for nightcap
Heyward is absent from the lineup for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader at Colorado. Heyward gets a breather after going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in the opening game of the twin bill. David Peralta, James Outman and Enrique Hernandez will start across the outfield for the Dodgers in the nightcap.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: On bench against lefty
Heyward remains out of the lineup Friday versus the Giants. Heyward was on the bench for Thursday's series opener with left-hander Kyle Harrison toeing the slab and he'll remain seated Friday as the Dodgers face off against another lefty in Sean Manaea. Chris Taylor, James Outman and Mookie Betts are starting across the outfield.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Sidelined versus lefty
Heyward isn't in the Dodgers' lineup Thursday against the Giants, Kirsten Watson of SportsNet LA reports. Southpaw Kyle Harrison will start on the bump for San Francisco, meaning the lefty-hitting Heyward will be replaced in right field by Mookie Betts while Amed Rosario starts at second base.... Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Held out of Monday's lineup
Heyward is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers, according to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times. Heyward posted a sizzling 1.280 OPS over his last nine games, but with left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez tabbed to start Monday's game for Detroit, Heyward will open the contest on the bench and Mookie Betts will cover right field.... Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Stays hot in win
Heyward went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and an additional RBI in Sunday's 6-1 win over the Mariners. Heyward went 8-for-14 (.571) with five extra-base hits during this three-game series in Seattle. The outfielder has hit four homers and six doubles over his last 15 games, a span in which he's batting .451 (23-for-51). For the season, he's at a .283/.357/.508 slash line with 15 homers, 40 RBI, 55 runs scored and two stolen bases across 113 games as the Dodgers' main right fielder against right-handed pitchers.... Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Three doubles Saturday
Heyward went 4-for-5 with three doubles in Saturday's 6-2 extra-innings win over the Mariners. Heyward was solid, but the Dodgers couldn't bring him home or set the table for him in this contest. He's hit .440 (22-for-50) over his last 16 games, tallying three home runs, five doubles and nine RBI in that span. He's at a .277/.353/.493 slash line with 14 homers, 38 RBI, 54 runs scored, 21 doubles and two stolen bases through 112 contests this year, finding success in a strong-side platoon role.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Takes seat versus lefty
Heyward remains out of the lineup Friday at Washington. Chris Taylor, James Outman and Enrique Hernandez will start across the outfield as the Dodgers go with a righty-heavy approach versus Nationals left-hander MacKenzie Gore. Heyward, who also sat Thursday against Braxton Garrett, has drawn only 19 total plate appearances versus southpaws this year.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Belts 14th homer
Heyward went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 11-4 loss to the Marlins. The veteran outfielder continues to swing a hot bat, collecting his fifth multi-hit performance in his last 12 games. Over that stretch, Heyward is slashing .405/.421/.676 with three of his 14 homers on the season. He continues to sit against southpaws, but the 34-year-old is a must-start for fantasy purposes when a righty is on the mound for the opposition as long as his hot streak lasts.... See More ... Dodgers' Jason Heyward: Sitting versus lefty
Heyward is not in the lineup Tuesday at Miami. Chris Taylor, James Outman and Mookie Betts will start across the outfield for the Dodgers as they match up against left-hander Jesus Luzardo. The left-handed-hitting Heyward has slashed .059/.158/.235 in only 19 plate appearances versus southpaws this year.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Jason Heyward: On bench versus lefty
Heyward is out of the lineup Friday against Atlanta. Mookie Betts is playing right field and Enrique Hernandez will get the start at second base with left-hander Max Fried toeing the slab for the NL East leaders. Heyward has slashed .063/.167/.250 in very limited action (18 plate appearances) versus southpaws this season.... See More ... See Less
