  • Giants' Erik Miller: Handed first loss

Miller (0-1) took the loss Sunday versus the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits while striking out one and walking none over one inning. Miller's five-inning scoreless streak came to an end Sunday, though it wasn't all his fault. He struggled initially this season, but has since gotten back on track and earned two holds over his last three appearances. Miller has a 5.73 ERA, but his 0.91 WHIP and 15:5 K:BB over 11 innings suggest the southpaw's luck should even out over time as he gets more comfortable in the majors.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Recalled from Triple-A

The Giants recalled Miller from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Miller was optioned a couple weeks ago but ended up winning a spot in the Opening Day bullpen. The left-hander will be making his major-league debut whenever he gets into a game.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Optioned to Triple-A

Miller was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento by the Giants on Monday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Miller had a shot at a bullpen job with the Giants but is being sent out after permitting one run over just three innings this spring. The 26-year-old has a good chance to debut at some point with the big club in 2024.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: In contention for bullpen spot

Manager Bob Melvin said Miller is in contention to be one of the Giants' left-handed relievers to begin 2024, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. The Giants added Miller to the 40-man roster in November to shield him from the Rule 5 Draft. He has yet to make his major-league debut, but he showed plenty of promise with a 2.45 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 88:45 K:BB over 62.1 innings between Triple-A Sacramento and Double-A Richmond last season. The walk rate is the biggest point of concern for Miller, though it's something that is a long-standing issue for the southpaw. Even if Miller makes the Giants' major-league roster, he'll likely begin 2024 as a low-leverage option.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Selected to 40-man roster

The Giants added Miller to their 40-man roster Tuesday. Miller put together a solid season in 2023, logging a 2.45 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in 62.1 frames between Double-A and Triple-A. He's now protected from being selected in next month's Rule 5 Draft, and a strong spring from Miller could lead to a spot in the Giants' Opening Day bullpen.

  • Giants' Erik Miller: Dealt to San Fran

The Giants acquired Miller from the Phillies on Monday in exchange for right-hander Yunior Marte. Marte was deemed an expendable bullpen arm after the Giants added another reliever (Luke Jackson) in free agency Monday, so the front office opted to swap him out in favor of more of a developmental option in Miller, a 24-year-old lefty. Though he struggled in his initial exposure to the Triple-A level in 2022 (7.50 ERA, 2.33 WHIP in 12 innings with Lehigh Valley), Miller impressed at Double-A Reading prior to earning the call-up to the International League. Over his 22 outings (seven starts) at Reading spanning 36.1 innings, Miller posted a 2.23 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 44:17 K:BB.
