If the Rockies let manager Jim Tracy go after the season, Jason Giambi is a potential candidate to replace him, Troy Renck of the Denver Post reported Sunday.
Tracy made the postseason in his first season as Rockies manager after replacing Clint Hurdle 30 games into the 2009 season. The Rockies have yet to reach the playoffs since, and 96 losses this season (and counting) have set a franchise record.
Giambi could choose to search for a job as a player next season, but old age appears to be taking its toll: the 41-year-old has just one home run and a .225/.372/.303 line in 113 plate appearances this season. Giambi could be a candidate for a coaching position if the managerial job isn't open next season.
