Jordan Spieth will be the golfer to watch when the 2024 John Deere Classic tees off on Thursday, July 4 at TPC Deere Run in Illinois. He has had massive success at the John Deere Classic, winning the tournament at 19 in 2013 and again in 2015 when the event was last played at TPC Deere Run. However, the world No. 32 golfer is still looking for his first win of the 2024 PGA season and hasn't finished in the top 10 since the Valero Texas Open on April 7.
Due to his current form, Spieth is 20-1 in the 2024 John Deere Classic odds. Sungjae Im is the 14-1 favorite on the PGA odds board, followed by Sepp Straka (15-1) and Aaron Rai (16-1). Top 2024 John Deere Classic predictions
One major surprise the model is calling for at the John Deere Classic 2024: Spieth (20-1), a two-time winner of this event and one of the top favorites, doesn't finish on top. Spieth has often been heralded as one of the best putters on the PGA Tour, and he'll enter this week's event ranked seventh in putting average (1.717).
However, Spieth has finished T29 or worse in each of his last nine starts on the PGA Tour, which includes two missed cuts. He's also struggled with his irons this season, ranking 70th in greens in regulation percentage (66.05%) and 110th in strokes gained: approach to green (-0.085). TPC Deere Run places a premium on ball striking, which doesn't bode well for Spieth's chances to finish on top of the leaderboard. See who else to fade here.
Another surprise: Maverick McNealy, a 28-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. The 28-year-old California native has two top-20 finishes in his last three starts, including a T7 at the RBC Canadian Open on June 2.
McNealy has made the cut all three times he has participated in the John Deere Classic, finishing T8 in 2022. He ranks 10th on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained (1.111), seventh in scrambling (66.76%) and 10th in putts per round (27.93), so he should be in for a strong showing at TPC Deere Run this week.
