Player Outlook
Riley Greene's quality of contact is borderline elite, but a 20th percentile strikeout rate keeps him from taking full advantage of 90th percentile barrel and 83rd percentile hard hit rates. Greene's contact on pitches out of the zone is his undoing, but there are harbingers for improved contact. His strikeout rate has dropped each of the past two seasons, albeit just slightly. More importantly, Greene doesn't chase, and he walks at an 11 percent clip. Together, these bode well for better swing decisions. Greene's power metrics are also on the upswing, as he had a career-high 34.6 percent fly ball rate last season, 10 points above his first two seasons. Greene doesn't run much, and he needs to establish durability after missing more than three weeks with a hamstring issue. This could be the last year to draft Greene outside of the top 75; he has the makings of a four-category star.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Taking seat Sunday

Greene is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. Greene started the first eight games of the season and has carried a hot bat with three homers and a 1.083 OPS in 36 plate appearances, but he'll receive a break for Sunday's series finale versus Chicago. Kerry Carpenter will receive a rare start against a lefty (Martin Perez) while Manuel Margot gets the nod in right field.

Greene went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored in Friday's 7-4 win against the White Sox. Greene launched a 417-foot homer into the right-field seats in the sixth inning, clocking in at an exit velocity of 114.3 mph. The only blemish on his early stat line is a lopsided 0:10 BB:K.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Third straight game with RBI

Greene went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to Seattle. • Tigers' Riley Greene: Will focus mostly on OF corners

Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris indicated Monday that Greene is likely to remain primarily a corner outfielder, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. The Tigers have lost three center fielders to injury in Matt Vierling (shoulder), Parker Meadows (arm) and Wenceel Perez (back). Greene has extensive experience in center field and has played there some this spring, but it would appear the club still plans to play him mostly in left field. Ryan Kreidler could be the favorite to handle reps in center field for Detroit for the time being.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Connects for first spring home run

Greene went 2-for-2 with a walk and a two-run home run in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Orioles. Making his first appearance of the spring, Greene wasted no time in delivering his first home run as well. The 24-year-old outfielder set career highs across the board last season and seems primed for another step forward in 2025. Greene should be a dependable fantasy asset with a fairly stable floor, and he offers plenty of upside as well, making him an attractive target in drafts.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Hoping to increase workload in 2025

Greene has focused on a better diet and exercising in the offseason, and the outfielder hopes to see more playing time this season as a result of improved health, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Greene was fairly durable in 2024, as he set a new career high by playing in 137 games. However, the 24-year-old outfielder thinks he's capable of more, and he's implemented a new offseason routine to help improve his body. If Greene can play in 150 games or more, he has a good chance of improving upon his 2024 numbers which included 24 home runs and 74 RBI to go along with a strong .827 OPS.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Goes deep in critical win

Greene went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Royals. Greene hit his 24th home run of the season in the third inning as the Tigers built an early lead, and they held on for a critical win, which moved them within a half game of a playoff spot. The young outfielder will need to carry Detroit offensively in the final nine games of the year, so he should be in the lineup pretty much every day, giving him an opportunity to build on what's been a strong fantasy campaign to date.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Goes deep twice

Greene went 2-for-4 Sunday with two home runs and three RBI against the Orioles. Greene blasted his first homer with one on in the third to put the Tigers on the board, then provided an insurance run in the eighth with his second dinger of the game. Greene has been playing well lately, batting .297 over his last 10 games with four extra-base hits and eight RBI. The young outfielder has all the talent in the world, and he's putting it on display this year with an .837 OPS and 20 home runs across 120 games. As long as Greene stays healthy, he should be primed for a strong finish to the season.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Four hits in 13-inning loss

Greene went 4-for-6 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Friday's 7-6 extra-innings loss to the Athletics. Prior to Friday, he had gone 11 games without a multi-hit effort, batting just .175 (7-for-40) in that span. The outfielder is up to a .260/.353/.479 slash line with 20 home runs, 60 RBI, 69 runs scored, 25 doubles, five triples and four stolen bases over 117 contests this season.

Greene went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Sunday against the Red Sox. Greene's 20th blast of the season came with one on in the sixth inning and extended the Tigers' lead to three. Greene has struggled to the tune of a .208 batting average with a 37.8 percent strikeout rate over 48 at-bats in 12 games since returning from a stint on the IL due to a hamstring injury, though he now has three homers, seven RBI and 11 runs scored during that stretch.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Tallies two more hits Friday

Greene went 2-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Friday's 5-2 win over the White Sox. Greene now has consecutive two-hit performances, pushing his batting average up to .263 for the season and his OPS to .839. The young outfielder has played in four games following a nearly month-long absence due to a hamstring strain. Greene looks fully recovered based on his last two efforts, though the team will likely be cautious with him as he ramps back up.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Resting up against lefty

Greene is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs. Greene will join fellow left-handed hitters Trey Sweeney, Parker Meadows and Zach McKinstry on the bench while the Cubs send southpaw Justin Steele to the hill for the series finale. After going 0-for-8 with five strikeouts in his first two starts following his return from the 10-day injured list Sunday, Greene shook off some rust in Wednesday's 8-2 win, slugging a home run and supplying a base hit while driving in three runs.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Powers offense Wednesday

Greene went 2-for-4 with a walk, a home run, an additional run scored and three total RBI in Wednesday's 8-2 win over the Cubs. Greene went 0-for-8 in his first two games back from the injured list following his absence due to a hamstring strain, but he broke out Wednesday. The young outfielder now has 18 home runs this season to go along with a strong .836 OPS. Greene is a dynamic offensive talent, and he should be poised for a strong finish to the year if he can stay healthy.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Reinstated, starting Sunday

The Tigers reinstated Greene (hamstring) from the 10-day injured list and designated him as the 27th man for Sunday's Little League Classic against the Yankees in Williamsport, Penn., Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Green will bat second as the designated hitter. The 23-year-old had been sidelined by a hamstring strain since late July but is ready to rejoin the Tigers after two-game rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo. Detroit will take advantage of the 27th man for Sunday's neutral-site game but will need to make a corresponding transaction for Greene prior to Tuesday's series opener versus the Cubs.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Absent from Detroit lineup

Greene is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game in Cleveland. Greene isn't dealing with any known injury, but it's a little odd to see him sitting out against righty Xzavion Curry, especially since he was just out of the lineup Saturday versus a left-hander. The Tigers are going with an outfield of Justyn-Henry Malloy, Matt Vierling and Wenceel Perez on Tuesday.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Contributes three hits, three RBI

Greene went 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Guardians. Greene had entered Wednesday's game in a 1-for-14 skid but collected two hits Wednesday and three more Thursday to break out of the mini-slump. It was the sixth time this season and fourth since June 15 that Greene has collected at least three hits in a game. He also added three RBI, giving him 48 on the season to go along with a .266 average and 17 homers.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Serving as DH on Sunday

Greene is serving as the designated hitter and batting fourth in Sunday's game against the Reds. Greene will get a day off from playing the outfield, though the Tigers are keeping his hot bat in the lineup. Over his last 10 games, the 23-year-old has a .962 OPS. For the season, Greene has an .863 OPS and 17 home runs, making him a strong fantasy asset thus far. The young star is just starting to tap into his potential and has a ton of upside the rest of the year.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Big effort in win

Greene went 3-for-4 with a triple, a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 9-2 win over the Twins. Greene was an offensive force as he recorded his 16th home run of the season and pushed his OPS up to .851. The 23-year-old had already surpassed his previous career best of 11 home runs in a season, and he's now up to a career-high 43 RBI this year as well after Wednesday's effort. Greene could be closing in on his first All-Star appearance, but at the very least he's been a strong fantasy asset who continues to trend upward given his promising skill set.

  • Tigers' Riley Greene: Reaches three times in loss

Greene went 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI in Monday's 2-1 loss to Atlanta. Greene didn't get much support from the rest of the lineup but it was still a good day for the young outfielder. He's been locked in this month with a .305 batting average across 15 games, and that's pushed his overall average to .254. Greene is a dynamic talent who can really take off if he keeps making consistent contact at the plate like he's done recently.
