Maryland's football team has some extra competition as it goes through its fall camp slate: Governor Wes Moore dropped by this week to lead the Terrapins through exercises and participate in individual drills.

Moore, who wore a No. 24 jersey and donned a Riddell SpeedFlex helmet, looked like a natural while running through ball security shells with two defenders in stride. Based on pictures posted by Maryland football's X (Twitter) account, he also caught passes in the routes on air period with the team and spent most of his time with the offense.

Moore is an offensive guy, after all. He played wide receiver at Johns Hopkins University for a couple seasons before moving on and earning a master's degree from Wolfson College in Oxford, England in 2004.

But Moore has never truly left those football roots behind. This isn't the first time that he's popped up at a preseason practice this summer; Moore, sporting a Lamar Jackson jersey, attended a Baltimore Ravens training camp session on July 24.

Four days later, he was at Washington Commanders training camp getting a firsthand view of rookie quarterback and 2023 Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels.

As for the Terrapins themselves, they're on the hunt for a fourth straight bowl win under coach Mike Locksley. Maryland has gone 8-5 in each of the past two seasons and haven't had a losing record -- through a full 12-game schedule -- since 2019.
