Live scores, highlights and updates from the Washington State vs. Utah State football game
Game Recap
It was a close one, but on Saturday the Utah State Aggies sidestepped the Washington State Cougars for a 26-23 victory.
Utah State struggled in the first half and ended with five points. The Cougars countered with six points to make it 6-5 going into the half. Utah State turned things around in the second half, however, and their late kick pushed them just over the edge.
The Aggies' success was spearheaded by the efforts of RB Calvin Tyler Jr., who punched in one rushing touchdown, and WR Deven Thompkins, who caught eight passes for one TD and 94 yards.
Special teams collected ten points for Utah State. K Connor Coles delivered a perfect 3-for-3 game.
Washington State's loss came about despite a quality game from RB Max Borghi, who punched in one rushing touchdown. That touchdown -- a 64-yard rush in the third quarter -- was one of the highlights of the matchup. The game pushed Washington State down to 0-1 and pulled Utah State up to the reverse at 1-0.
The Aggies will be playing at home against the North Dakota Fighting Hawks at 9 p.m. ET next Friday. North Dakota is also hoping to continue their momentum after a 35-14 win over the Idaho State Bengals on Saturday. The Cougars will play host again and welcome the Portland State Vikings to Clarence D. Martin Stadium, where kick-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET next Saturday. Like Washington State, Portland State is looking to wash their mouths of the taste of defeat after falling 49-28 to the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors.
