Coastal Carolina vs. Georgia Southern Live updates Score, results, highlights, for Saturday's NCAAF game

Game Recap

After losing to the Georgia Southern Eagles the last time they met, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Coastal Carolina netted a 28-14 win on Saturday. Despite the victory, that's the fewest points they have scored all year.

Coastal Carolina QB Fred Payton was slinging it as he passed for three TDs and 252 yards on 28 attempts in addition to picking up 38 yards on the ground. Payton's 72-yard touchdown toss to WR Sam Denmark in the first quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the day. The Chanticleers also got help from WR Jaivon Heiligh, who showed off his sure hands for 107 receiving yards in the win.

Coastal Carolina's defense was a presence as well, as it got past Georgia Southern's offensive line to sack the QB four times for a loss of 11 yards. Leading the way was LB Enock Makonzo and his two sacks. Those were the first sacks for Makonzo this season.

Georgia Southern's only offensive touchdown came from RB J.D. King.

The win for Coastal Carolina kept them a perfect 5-0. The Eagles' loss pushed them down to 3-2.

The Chanticleers will take on the Georgia State Panthers at noon ET next Saturday at Center Parc Stadium. Coastal Carolina's defense will surely be attentive in the film room this week preparing for a Georgia State offense that has put up 42 points on average. As for Georgia Southern, they will go up against the South Alabama Jaguars at 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday at Allen E. Paulson Stadium. South Alabama is 1-1 after wins this season, and Georgia Southern is 1-0 after losses.
