The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers lost to the Appalachian State Mountaineers when the two teams previously met in September of last year, but they didn't allow Appalachian State the same satisfaction this time around. The Chanticleers walked away with a 34-23 win Saturday. The victory was familiar territory for them, who are still undefeated after eight games.

Coastal Carolina struggled in the first half and ended with nine points. Appalachian State had no such difficulty scoring and set themselves up with a 17-9 advantage heading into the break. The Coastal Carolina offense took control in the second half, however, scoring 25 points.

Coastal Carolina's QB Grayson McCall did his thing and passed for two TDs and 200 yards on 21 attempts in addition to rushing for one TD and 69 yards. One of the most memorable plays of the game was McCall's 62-yard touchdown rush in the third quarter. Coastal Carolina's CB D'Jordan Strong got in on the action, too, converting a pick in the fourth quarter into a touchdown.

A silver lining for Appalachian State was the play of RB Camerun Peoples, who rushed for one TD and 178 yards on 27 carries. Peoples' longest run was for 50 yards in the first quarter.

The victory bumped the Chanticleers' record up to 8-0. The defeat dropped the Mountaineers' record to 6-2.

Coastal Carolina will square off against the Texas State Bobcats at 3 p.m. ET next week at Jim Wacker Field at Bobcat Stadium. Coastal Carolina will have the chance to boost their scoring average against a Texas State defense that has allowed 37 points per game on average. As for Appalachian State, they will face off against the Troy Trojans at 8 p.m. ET next week at Kidd Brewer Stadium.
