Duke vs. Virginia score: Kyle Filipowski powers Blue Devils to 22nd ACC Tournament title in program history
Duke now enters the NCAA Tournament as one of the hottest teams in the country under first-year coach Jon Scheyer
The all-time leader in ACC Tournament championships added more hardware to its trophy case as No. 21 Duke methodically picked apart No. 13 Virginia for a 59-49 win in the title game to complete three wins in three days in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Blue Devils led wire-to-wire in avenging its regular-season loss to the Cavaliers, which came exactly one month to the day under controversial circumstances.
Duke now enters the NCAA Tournament as one of the hottest teams in college basketball ahead of Selection Sunday, punctuated by a championship going in to March Madness and having won nine consecutive games dating back to Feb. 14. Its last loss came to Virginia on Feb. 11 in a game in which the ACC ruled it should have been awarded two free throws at the end of regulation to win before losing in overtime.
"The fact of how much adversity they fought through, sticking together, I'm just so proud of the group and the development they've had," said Duke coach Jon Scheyer after the game. "This is why you coach at Duke. It's an honor to be here with [this team]."
Duke freshman Kyle Filipowski earned ACC Tournament MVP honors after another brilliant outing in which he tallied 20 points and 10 rebounds. He finished averaging 19.7 points and seven rebounds on the week in helping bring Duke its first ACC Tournament championship since 2019.
