HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) Austin Crowley's 17 points helped Southern Miss defeat Troy 64-60 on Thursday as both teams opened Sun Belt Conference play.

Crowley had six rebounds and five steals for the Golden Eagles (12-2). Felipe Haase added 16 points while shooting 6 for 14 (2 for 6 from 3-point range) and 2 of 3 from the free throw line, and he also had eight rebounds and three blocks. Denijay Harris recorded 12 points and shot 5 of 9 from the field.

Zay Williams finished with 19 points, nine rebounds and two steals for the Trojans (8-6). Kieffer Punter added 14 points for Troy. Aamer Muhammad also put up 11 points.

NEXT UP

Both teams next play Saturday. Southern Miss hosts Appalachian State and Troy visits Texas State.
