The 2023 tennis schedule rolls through Roland Garros in Paris for the second grand slam of the year, the 2023 French Open, but there may be more star power sitting out the tournament than playing in it. Serena Williams famously retired last year, and former French Open champions Simona Halep and Garbine Muguruza also are not in the field. Naomi Osaka, Venus Williams and Emma Raducanu also are missing from the draw as play gets set to begin at 5 a.m. ET on Sunday.

However, world No. 1 and two-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek is in the field and is the -125 favorite (risk $125 to win $100) in the 2023 French Open odds from Caesars Sportsbook. Aryna Sabalenka (+450), Elena Rybakina (+600), Barbora Krejcikova (+1400) and Jelena Ostapenko (+2000) round out the top five in the odds for this 128-player French Open 2023 field. Before locking in any French Open picks or predictions, you need to see the French Open 2023 picks from SportsLine tennis handicapper Jose Onorato.

Onorato grew up playing competitive tennis in Caracas, Venezuela. After coming to the United States, he trained with famed coach Nick Bollettieri at IMG Academy in Florida and faced players like Robert Farah, now one of the world's top-ranked doubles players.

Onorato, who holds dual degrees in finance and economics from the University of Miami, does extensive research before placing any tennis bets. He studies current form, a player's tendencies on a particular surface, weather conditions and many other relevant factors. That systematic approach helped Onorato go 96-67-7 -- up 60.42 units -- in 2022.

Earlier this year, he correctly predicted Aryna Sabalenka (-140) to win the women's final over Elena Rybakina and to do so two sets to one (+325).

Now, Onorato has broken down the latest odds for the women's draw of the 2023 French Open and released his coveted best bets to win it all. He's sharing all of his picks and analysis at SportsLine.

Top 2023 French Open picks

One surprise: Onorato is bearish on the chances of Iga Swiatek. The No. 1 player in the world and the two-time French Open champion, Swiatek is the clear tournament favorite, at -125. But in her last tournament, the Internazionali BNL d'Italia in Rome, she was forced to retire in the quarterfinals due to a right thigh injury.

Also, Swiatek's major rivals will not be intimidated by her if they meet in the tournament. Aryna Sabalenka beat Swiatek the last time they met, and Elena Rybakina has prevailed in the last two meetings between the players. "I prefer other contenders who provide better value than the -125 price on Swiatek," Onorato told SportsLine. You can see who to back and fade here.
