Top Sebastian Cossa News

  • Red Wings' Sebastian Cossa: Excellent in third pro season

Cossa has gone 14-9-3 with a 2.23 GAA and a .918 save percentage over 26 games with AHL Grand Rapids this season.

Cossa also made his NHL debut Dec. 10, 2024, allowing two goals on 14 shots. His AHL numbers are better in 2024-25 than they were last year -- he had a 2.41 GAA and a .913 save percentage over 40 outings in 2023-24. With all of Alex Lyon, Ville Husso and Jack Campbell coming off the books this summer, Cossa may be given a chance to claim an NHL job in the fall, though the team is likely to sign at least one other veteran goalie to keep the organizational depth steady. Cossa is not far off from being an impact player in fantasy, especially if the Red Wings continue to improve overall.

  • Red Wings' Sebastian Cossa: Returns to AHL

Cossa was reassigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Wednesday.

Cossa was summoned by Detroit on Dec. 2 since Cam Talbot (lower body) and Alex Lyon (lower body) were unavailable, but Talbot is set to return Thursday versus Philadelphia. That frees Cossa to resume getting regular starts in the minors. The 22-year-old netminder has a 2.21 GAA and a .925 save percentage over 14 outings with Grand Rapids this season. He made his NHL debut Monday in relief of Ville Husso, stopping 12 of 14 shots across 45:00 of ice time en route to a 6-5 shootout victory over Buffalo.

  • Red Wings' Sebastian Cossa: Nabs win in NHL debut

Cossa stopped 12 of 14 shots in regulation and overtime, plus two of three shootout attempts, in Monday's 6-5 win over the Sabres.

Ville Husso got the start for Detroit but gave up three goals on seven shots in the first period before getting the hook. Cossa took over to begin the second with the Wings down 3-2, and while it was a tough spot in which to make his NHL debut, the 22-year-old held his own and shut the Sabres down completely in the third period and OT before getting rewarded with a shootout win. Given Husso's struggles as the No. 1 while Cam Talbot (lower body) and Alex Lyon (lower body) have been sidelined, it wouldn't be a surprise to see Cossa make his first career NHL start Thursday in Philadelphia if Talbot isn't ready to return.
