  • Elijah Holyfield: Works out for Miami

Holyfield worked out for the Dolphins Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Holyfield suffered a significant knee injury last summer in Bengals camp and spent all of 2022 rehabbing. He hasn't appeared in a game since playing five special teams snaps for the Eagles way back in 2020. Holyfield's career is hanging on by a thread.

  • Bengals' Elijah Holyfield: Lands on IR

Holyfield (knee) was placed on the Bengals' reserve/injured list Thursday. Holyfield was carted off Cincinnati's practice field Wednesday after suffering what was apparently a significant knee injury. The second-year running back will now be forced to miss the entirety of the 2022 season, unless he gets waived or released with an injury settlement by the Bengals. Holyfield's injury should clear a path for running back Jacques Patrick, who was signed in a corresponding move Thursday, to compete with Chris Evans and Trayveon Williams for Cincinnati's No. 3 running back spot in training camp.

  • Bengals' Elijah Holyfield: Suffers injury during camp

Holyfield (knee) was carted off the practice field Wednesday after suffering an apparent knee injury, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports. It's a tough break for Holyfield, who was already a long-shot to make the Bengals 53-man roster for this season. As he and the team await a diagnosis, Chris Evans and Trayveon Williams will compete for Cincinnati's third running back spot.

  • Bengals' Elijah Holyfield: Joins offseason roster

Holyfield was signed to the Bengals' offseason roster Tuesday. The Bengals signed the 23-year-old to their practice squad in mid-October after Samaje Perine tested positive for COVID-19. Holyfield spent the rest of the 2021 campaign on Cincinnati's practice squad but wasn't elevated to the active roster for any contests.

  • Elijah Holyfield: Joins Cincinnati's practice squad

The Bengals signed Holyfield to their practice squad Tuesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Samaje Perine tested positive for COVID-19, and Joe Mixon was limited Sunday with an ankle injury, so the Bengals elected to sign Holyfield to add some emergency depth to their running back room. The 23-year-old spent last season on the Eagles' practice squad, but he was released by Philly ahead of the initial 53-man roster deadline.

  • Elijah Holyfield: Checks in with Baltimore

Holyfield had a workout with the Ravens on Monday, Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports. Baltimore has already dealt with season-ending injuries in the backfield to J.K. Dobbins (knee) and Justice Hill (Achilles), and Holyfield was among the backs brought in for workouts to potentially serve as the team's No. 3 tailback. Even if he doesn't reach a deal, Holyfield could still join the Ravens' practice squad and potentially be promoted later on.

  • Elijah Holyfield: Waived by Philly

The Eagles waived Holyfield on Sunday, Geoff Mosher of 97.5 The Fanatic Philadelphia reports. Holyfield spent the majority of the 2020 campaign on the Eagles' practice squad. He was elevated for just one game and saw five special-team snaps. The 22-year-old running back will likely find a similar role this season.

  • Elijah Holyfield: Back down to practice squad

Holyfield reverted back to the Eagles' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction report. Holyfield only played five snaps on special teams in Sunday's loss to the Browns and will now return to the practice squad. Should the Eagles need some extra running back depth in Monday's matchup against the Seahawks, look for Holyfield to get the call.

  • Eagles' Elijah Holyfield: Elevated to active roster

The Eagles have elevated Holyield to their active roster ahead of Sunday's matchup with the Browns. Holyfield failed to make it through the Eagles' final roster cuts prior to Week 1 and subsequently landed on their practice squad. He is still fourth on the depth chart at running back, so he is not expected to make an impact there. However, he could potentially get some work on special teams.

  • Elijah Holyfield: Waived by Eagles

Holyfield was waived by the Eagles on Thursday, Mike Kaye of The Newark Star-Ledger reports. As were fellow running backs Mike Warren and Adrian Killins. Per Kaye, Holyfield is a candidate to land on the Eagles' practice squad and "could receive a boost to the main roster when the Eagles suffer inevitable injuries in the backfield."

  • Eagles' Elijah Holyfield: Runs with first team Wednesday

Holyfield saw first team reps in practice on Wednesday Daniel Gallen of the Harrisburg Patriot-News reports. Holyfield is currently fourth on the depth chart at running back but got the chance to practice with the starters while Miles Sanders and Boston Scott each tended to lower-body injuries. Corey Clement therefore started the day as the lead back, but the undrafted rookie out of Georgia rotated in later. Neither Sanders' nor Scott's injuries are expected to be long-term, so Holyfield needs to take advantage of this limited opportunity while he can.

  • Eagles' Elijah Holyfield: No postseason usage

Holyfield didn't see the field in the Eagles' Jan. 5 wild-card loss to the Seahawks. Holyfield was signed after the regular season, as the Eagles entered the playoffs with an injury-riddled backfield. However, Miles Sanders (knee) and Jordan Howard (shoulder) played through their respective injuries while Boston Scott was available, so the 21-year-old Holyfield remained on the sidelines. The Eagles may retain Holyfield for another look this offseason, but he'll be vying for a special-teams role in 2020 wherever he lands.

  • Eagles' Elijah Holyfield: Signs with Eagles

Holyfield signed with the Eagles on Tuesday. Eagles running back Miles Sanders is tending to an ankle sprain, so the team decided to add a fourth active running back to the roster in order to improve the depth at the position. • Elijah Holyfield: Cut by Carolina

The Panthers cut Holyfield on Sunday, Max Henson of the Panthers' official site reports. The undrafted rookie out of Georgia survived cut-down Saturday, only to land on the wrong side of the bubble Sunday after the Panthers added three players via waivers. Holyfield should have a spot on the Carolina practice squad if he doesn't sign with another team, coming off a preseason with a 20-79-1 rushing line and 6-28-1 receiving line on eight targets. The Panthers are sticking with Jordan Scarlett and Reggie Bonnafon behind snap hog Christian McCaffrey.

  • Panthers' Elijah Holyfield: Scores twice in preseason debut

Holyfield rushed nine times for 26 yards and a touchdown, and caught two of four targets for 13 yards and another score in Thursday night's 23-13 preseason win over the Bears. He also lost a fumble. Holyfield watched Cameron Artis-Payne start at tailback, but still got into the game on Carolina's third offensive series. On his third rush, however, Holyfield turned the ball over, making for a rough first impression. Fortunately, he rallied to catch a seven-yard touchdown to begin the second half, then ended the game with an 11-yard scoring rush. Overall, that made for a mostly positive performance as he hopes to move up the depth chart behind Christian McCaffrey.

  • Elijah Holyfield: Intends to sign with Panthers

Holyfield is expected to sign with the Panthers as an undrafted free agent, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Holyfield declared for the draft as an underclassman out of Georgia but saw his stock take a significant hit after lackluster NFL Scouting Combine and pro day performances. He'll have a chance to earn a roster spot with Carolina as a depth running back and special teams player in 2019.
