  • Saints' Daniel Sorensen: Signs with New Orleans

Sorensen signed a contract with the Saints on Friday, Amie Just of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Sorensen spent his first eight seasons in the NFL with the Chiefs and finished the 2021 campaign with 51 tackles, eight pass deflections, two interceptions and one sack across 17 appearances. The Saints also signed Marcus Maye (Achilles) this offseason in an attempt to replace Marcus Williams; however, if Maye isn't fully cleared by Week 1, Sorensen figures to be the next man up.

  • Chiefs' Daniel Sorensen: Another big tackling day

Sorensen had nine solo tackles during Kansas City's win over Philadelphia in Week 4. Sorensen has had a productive three weeks in terms of stops, bringing him up to 23 tackles on the year. The veteran safety also has one sack and one pass breakup. Given his near every-down workload, Sorensen will be in the mix as a fairly high upside IDP asset during Week 5's matchup against the Bills.

  • Chiefs' Daniel Sorensen: Totals seven tackles

Sorensen had seven tackles (four solo) during Sunday's 33-27 win over the Chiefs. • Chiefs' Daniel Sorensen: Big Week 11 showing

Sorensen racked up eight tackles and his first interception of the 2019 season Monday versus the Chargers. Although he's not officially a starter at safety, Sorensen played the third-most defensive snaps Monday behind just Juan Thornhill and Tyrann Mathieu, the other two safeties. Sorensen's snap count has seen a significant rise over the last two weeks and has corresponded with a major jump in his tackle totals. He could move into borderline IDP status should he retain a large share of snaps out of the bye week.

  • Chiefs' Daniel Sorensen: Likely to start

Sorensen is expected to start at strong safety in Sunday's game versus the Ravens, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports. Sorensen will be in his fourth game back since returning from a leg injury. He's been eased into action up until now, as he took starter snaps instead of Eric Murray during warmups. Nevertheless, both Sorensen and Murray will likely lose playing time once Eric Berry (heel) is healthy again.

  • Chiefs' Daniel Sorensen: Activated from IR

The Chiefs activated Sorensen (knee) from injured reserve Tuesday. Sorensen suffered a tibial plateau fracture in addition to an MCL injury and lateral meniscus tear during training camp and was subsequently placed on IR in early September. The 28-year-old will be eligible to play Sunday against the Cardinals, though it remains to be seen if he'll be active. If he does manage to suit up, he could take over starting duties from safeties Eric Murray or Ron Parker until Eric Berry (heel) returns from injury.

  • Chiefs' Daniel Sorensen: Practice on tap Wednesday

Sorensen (knee) will take part in practice Wednesday after the Chiefs designated him to return from injured reserve. The Chiefs will have 21 days to evaluate whether Sorensen will be healthy enough to play at any point in 2018, but his presence at practice Wednesday is a good start. He's first eligible to make his debut Nov. 4 against the Browns and should provide some relief to the Kansas City secondary when activated.

  • Chiefs' Daniel Sorensen: Placed on IR

Sorensen (knee) was placed on injured reserve Monday, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports. • Chiefs' Daniel Sorensen: Out at least six weeks

Sorensen (knee) will be reevaluated in six weeks, Brooke Pryor of The Kansas City Star reports. The Chiefs do not have a concrete timetable for Sorensen, which means there is a good possibility that he could be out for even longer than the six weeks he has in front of him. The safety has already been ruled out for the start of the regular season, and it looks like his next evaluation won't come until Week 4.

  • Chiefs' Daniel Sorensen: Suffers knee injury

Sorensen did not practice Tuesday due to a knee injury, Nate Taylor of The Athletic Kansas City reports. It's unclear exactly when Sorensen suffered the knee injury, and given that he is still being evaluated, the severity may not be uncovered until Wednesday's practice session. For now, Sorensen should be considered day-to-day until the team has an update on his recovery timetable.

  • Chiefs' Daniel Sorensen: Quiet end to impressive 2017 season

Sorensen totaled only three tackles (two solo) during the team's wild-card loss to the Titans on Saturday, but finished the regular season with an impressive 89 tackles (67 solo), 1.5 sacks and one interception. Sorensen broke out in 2016 with the Chiefs and followed that up with another spectacular display in 2017. Although his turnover numbers (three interceptions, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries) from last season were difficult and unrealistic to replicate, the fourth-year pro improved his tackling totals by a wide margin (up to 89 from 63). With Eric Berry (Achilles) set to return in 2018 and Ron Parker also back, it's unclear how prevalent Sorensen's role in the defense will be next season.

  • Chiefs' Daniel Sorensen: Leads team in tackles Thursday

Sorensen racked up nine tackles (six solo), including two for a loss Thursday against the Raiders. Sorensen has proven effective since replacing Eric Berry (Achilles) in the starting lineup, collecting 41 tackles (30 solo) over the first seven contests this season to put him on pace for more than 90 on the season. He will attempt to keep things rolling next week against the Broncos.

  • Chiefs' Daniel Sorensen: Signs four-year extension

Sorensen signed a four-year, $16 million extension that includes nearly $8 million guaranteed, NFL.com's Mike Garafolo reports. A 2014 UDFA, the 27-year-old Sorensen has only started one game in three NFL seasons, but he's a core special teamer who took advantage of an expanded defensive role to record a career-best 63 tackles in 2016 -- also notching three interceptions, three fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. He'll likely continue to serve as the third safety behind starters Eric Berry and Ron Parker, getting most of his playing time in passing situations.

Sorensen posted a dominant IDP performance Sunday, recording a sack and six tackles (all solo) while intercepting a pass and returning it for a touchdown. Sorensen was on the field for just 58 percent of the team's snaps in Sunday's contest, but took advantage of the increased opportunity. His play may have earned him more snaps moving forward, but it's unlikely he'll be able to repeat this performance.
