  • Dolphins' Jake Rudock: Links with Dolphins

Miami will sign Rudock to the 53-man roster Thursday, Barry Jackson reports.

Rudock will serve as the Dolphins' emergency backup quarterback due to Ryan Fitzpatrick having tested positive for COVID-19. He's expected to slot in as the No. 2 option behind Tua Tagovailoa during Sunday's game against the Bills. Rudock hasn't played since 2017, when he took a handful of snaps across three games with the Lions.

  • Jake Rudock: Could be option in Chicago

The Bears hosted Rudock for a workout Wednesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

The Bears are in search of quarterback depth because Mitchell Trubisky is dealing with a shoulder injury. Rudock hasn't played a game since 2017 when he played just a handful of offensive snaps. Tyler Bray is the favorite to be Nick Foles' backup, but Rudock could be a practice squad option. Kyle Sloter joined Rudock for Wednesday's workout.

  • Jake Rudock: Moves to practice squad

The Dolphins signed Rudock to their practice squad Thursday, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.

Rudock was waived by Miami after a solid preseason, and he now has a chance to make an impact on the practice squad. The 2016 sixth-round pick's knowledge of the Dolphins' offense makes him a candidate to stick with the team's practice squad for the foreseeable future.

  • Jake Rudock: Cut by Dolphins

Rudock was waived by the Dolphins on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Rudock's only chance to make the 53-man roster was going to be if the team opted to go with three quarterbacks. Instead Miami is just going to roll with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen. Given Rudock's knowledge of the offense, he figures to be a prime candidate to join the Dolphins' practice squad.

  • Dolphins' Jake Rudock: Goes distance in preseason finale

Rudock completed 22 of 29 passes for 229 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's preseason win over the Saints.

Miami's No. 3 quarterback played the whole game and looked good, leading the offense to points in three of his four first-half drives. Rudock was rarely active during his three seasons with the Lions, suiting up for only three games in 2017, and that's unlikely to change for the 2016 sixth-round pick with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen ahead of him on the Dolphins' depth chart.

  • Jake Rudock: Waived by Detroit

Rudock was waived by Detroit on Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

To nobody's surprise, Rudock was unable to supplant Matt Cassel as the No. 2 quarterback behind Matt Stafford in Detroit. The Lions are hoping Rudock will clear waivers and become a member of the practice squad, but there's no guarantee another team won't take a shot at the Michigan product.

  • Lions' Jake Rudock: Falls to third on depth chart

Rudock -- who worked as the No. 2 quarterback during OTAs -- has fallen behind Matt Cassel on the depth chart, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.

It's possible the Lions were just allowing Cassel to get acclimated with the offense during OTAs, boosting Rudock to the No. 2 spot during that session. Either way, it now appears, as expected, that Rudock is third in line for snaps behind Cassel and starter Matt Stafford as mandatory minicamp opens. The third spot on the depth chart wouldn't rule out Rudolph from a 53-man spot, but that would require the Lions holding on to three signal-callers.

  • Lions' Jake Rudock: Tendered by Lions

Rudock, an exclusive-rights free agent, has received a contract tender from the Lions, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Rudock wasn't going anywhere as the Lions like what they have in their 2016 sixth-rounder and seemingly have faith in him as the team's backup quarterback. Barring any sort of unforeseen addition to the depth chart, he'll likely enter the 2018 season in that very role.
