  • Trey Flowers: Let go by New England

The Patriots released Flowers (foot) from the reserve/PUP list Tuesday. Flowers signed with the Patriots on a one-year deal on Aug. 8 after spending last season with Miami and the three previous campaigns with the Lions. He didn't have the chance to suit up in the regular season, and although he was designated for return from the reserve/PUP list on Oct. 5, he didn't seem to progress enough with his foot injury for the Patriots to keep him on the roster. If Flowers clears waivers, he'll look to catch onto another roster elsewhere.

  • Patriots' Trey Flowers: Moves to PUP list

Flowers (undisclosed) landed on the active/PUP list Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. The linebacker received the designation after signing with the Patriots earlier Tuesday. Flowers can return to the active roster at any time before Week 1. The two-time Super Bowl champion with New England suffered a foot injury in 2022 and played in just four games for the Dolphins.

  • Dolphins' Trey Flowers: Exits with injury

Flowers is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Vikings with a foot injury, Joe Schad of The Palm Beach Post reports. Flowers went to the Dolphins' locker room after picking up this injury at some point during the first half, David Furones of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports. The veteran recorded four tackles and played 61 defensive snaps over three games this season. With Flowers out, expect Andrew Van Ginkel to see an increased role behind starting outside linebackers Melvin Ingram and Jaelan Phillips.

  • Dolphins' Trey Flowers: Inks deal with Miami

The Dolphins signed Flowers on Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Flowers worked out for the Dolphins on Wednesday and appears to have impressed. The veteran linebacker was released by Detroit following a failed physical in March and only appeared in 14 games for the Lions over the last two years. However, before injuries derailed his career, Flowers had four straight seasons with at least 45 tackles and 6.5 sacks. He'll look to get back on track with a new-look Dolphins squad in 2022.

  • Trey Flowers: Officially done in Detroit

The Lions released Flowers (undisclosed) on Thursday. Detroit cut Flowers with a failed physical designation, per the NFL's official transaction report. The 28-year-old pass rusher has logged back-to-back seasons in which he was limited to seven games due to injuries, with his 2021 campaign having been defined by a knee issue. Parting ways with Flowers saves the Lions over $10 million against the cap, but once back to full health he should draw interest from other organizations around the league.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Will play Sunday

Flowers (knee) is active for Sunday's matchup with the Eagles. Flowers was limited in practices throughout the week, but he will be available Sunday. The 28-year-old linebacker only has 1.5 sacks this season, but he will look to add to that total against the Eagles' depleted offensive line.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Questionable against Rams

Flowers (knee) is questionable for Sunday's game against the Rams. Flowers was able to play through a knee injury in last week's loss to the Bengals, but he was limited in practice throughout the week. However, it wouldn't be surprising to see him suit up once again against the Rams.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Returns to limited practice

Flowers (knee) logged a limited practice Thursday. Flowers has already missed two games this season with a shoulder issue and was held out of practice Wednesday with the knee injury that he apparently suffered in Week 5. It's a positive sign that he returned to turn in a limited practice Thursday, and the Lions will hope that he can turn in a full practice Friday to increase his chances of suiting up in Week 6 against Cincinnati.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Out for second straight week

Flowers (shoulder) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's contest with the Bears. As expected, Flowers will miss his second straight game after not practicing all week. Charles Harris played 44 defensive snaps during Flowers' absence in Week 3 and will likely draw the start once again in Week 4.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Questionable for Sunday

Flowers (shoulder) has been listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Ravens. Flowers is dealing with shoulder and knee injuries, and his chances of playing Sunday against Baltimore look pretty slim at the moment considering he didn't feature in any of the team's last three practices. He's played in both games thus far this season, racking up nine tackles (seven solo) and half a sack.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Taking field Monday

Flowers (shoulder) is listed as active Monday at Green Bay. Flowers was a limited practice participant during Week 2 prep due to a shoulder injury, but it won't inhibit him from suiting up Monday. In the Lions' season-opening loss to the 49ers, he totaled four tackles and forced a fumble on an 89-percent share of the defensive snaps.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Moving to outside linebacker

Flowers is viewed as an outside linebacker in Detroit's new defensive scheme, Justin Rogers of the Detroit News reports. Playing within a Matt Patricia system that allowed the second-most points in league history last year, Flowers has generated just nine sacks in 22 games since signing a $90 million deal with Detroit in 2019. New defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn wants to use the expensive asset differently by moving him, along with Romeo Okwara, from defensive end to outside linebacker in Detroit's base defense. While Flowers will continue to line up as a traditional defensive end in obvious pass-rush situations, per Kyle Meinke of MLive.com, Flowers will have added responsibilities in pass coverage in other situations. This may mean that he will see less pass-rush snaps in 2020, but it may not be hard for Glenn to coax better fantasy numbers out of Flowers with a more effective defensive scheme.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Expects clearance for offseason

Flowers (forearm) expects to be "full go" for offseason workouts, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. Flowers fractured his forearm Week 8 and subsequently missed the final nine games of the 2020 campaign. His expectation to be ready for work in April is very reasonable considering the defensive end will have had over six months to recover by that point. What's less reasonable to take for granted is the notion that Flowers will remain in Detroit for the 2021 season, as the new-look Lions front office has no loyalties to Flowers and the team reportedly could save about $14 million against the salary cap by designating him as a post-June 1 release.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Injures arm in Week 8

Flowers injured his forearm during Week 8's 41-21 loss to the Colts, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. While the extent of Flowers' injury was previously unknown, it has been confirmed that the 27-year-old fractured his forearm. The defensive end missed the previous nine matchups and will likely return by the beginning of offseason workouts. Flowers ended his 2020 season with 22 tackles (12 solo) and two sacks.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Sits out practice Wednesday

Flowers (wrist) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice. It's concerning that Flowers was unable to practice at all Wednesday, but he should be in good shape for Sunday's game versus the Falcons if he can get back onto the practice field by Friday. The 27-year-old defensive end has posted 17 tackles and two sacks this year, and Romeo Okwara likely would bump into a starting gig if Flowers misses time.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Picks up second sack

Flowers had five tackles (two solo), one sack and a forced fumble during Sunday's 34-16 win over Jacksonville. The 27-year-old had a strip-sack on Gardner Minshew near midfield during the second quarter, though the Lions were unable to get any points off the turnover. Flowers has 17 total tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles through the first five games of the season.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Seven sacks in first year with Lions

Flowers totaled 51 tackles, seven sacks and two forced fumbles over 15 games in 2019. Effectively swapping Flowers for the oft-injured Ezekial Ansah this past offseason, Detroit finally got an elite defensive end without the injury headaches. While fantasy owners may have expected better numbers from someone who was handed a $90 million contract, Flowers is a player who's used in a variety of ways and won't always contend for the league lead in sacks. That isn't to say Flowers isn't capable of logging double-digit sacks in a season, though, and the 26-year-old may have a better chance of doing so in 2020 if the team's front office can put more talent around him, specifically at linebacker.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Progressing through protocol

Flowers (concussion) was a limited participant in Tuesday's practice, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports. Flowers practiced for the first time since suffering a concussion in Week 11's loss to the Cowboys. Coach Matt Patricia considers Flowers "day-to-day," according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. The defensive end will be cutting it close for Thursday's matchup against the Bears.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Ruled out for Week 12

Flowers (concussion) is ruled out for Sunday's game against Washington. Flowers continues to nurse a concussion suffered during Week 11's loss to the Cowboys. He'll need to fully clear the league's protocol for head injuries before retaking the field. With Da'Shawn Hand (ankle) also ruled out, expect Romeo Okwara and rookie Austin Bryant to start at defensive end.

  • Lions' Trey Flowers: Sitting out practice Wednesday

Flowers (concussion) didn't participate in Wednesday's practice. Flowers was concussed during Week 11's loss to the Cowboys, and he's trending in the wrong direction in regards to Sunday's game against the Redskins. Da'Shawn Hand (ankle) also didn't practice, so Romeo Okwara and rookie Austin Bryant could be the team's starting defensive ends for the NFC matchup.
