Cox announced Sunday via his personal Instagram account that he has retired from professional football. A 2012 first-round draft pick, Cox spent his entire 12-year career in Philadelphia. The 33-year-old was one of the standout defensive tackles of his era, earning six Pro Bowl nods and a spot on the NFL's 2010s All-Decade Team. The Mississippi State product finished his career with 519 total tackles, 70 sacks, 16 forced fumbles, 14 fumble recoveries and three touchdowns over 188 regular-season contests.... See More ... Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Posts 5.0 sacks in age-32 season
Cox finished the season with 33 tackles (15 solo), including 5.0 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Cox's numbers did dip slightly from last season's 7.0 sacks and 43 tackles (23 solo), but that was at least partially due to the fact that he played two fewer games, missing one with a groin injury and resting in Week 18. He may not be the player he was at his peak, but he remained a very important part of the Eagles' defense in his 12th NFL season.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Resting in Week 18
Cox (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Giants. Cox wasn't listed on the Eagles' Week 18 injury report, but he looks like he'll be getting some extra rest ahead of the postseason. In Cox's absence, Jalen Carter and Milton Williams are candidates to see added snaps at defensive tackle.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Lackluster in loss
Cox logged three total tackles (one solo) in Sunday's 35-31 loss to the Cardinals. Cox, along with the rest of the Eagles' defensive line, really struggled to stop the Cardinals' rushing attack Sunday, as they racked up 221 yards on the ground, which is the most Philadelphia has allowed all season. The veteran defensive lineman has appeared in 15 games this year, recording 33 total tackles, including three tackles for loss and 5.0 sacks. Cox and Philadelphia's defense will look to rebound against the Giants in Week 18.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Strip sack leads to score
Cox had three tackles (one solo), including a sack, and a forced fumble in Sunday's 33-13 loss to the Cowboys. Cox sacked Dak Prescott early in the third quarter for a six-yard loss and stripped the ball, which was recovered by Jalen Carter who returned it for a 42-yard touchdown. It turned out to be the only touchdown the Eagles scored Sunday in their second straight loss. Cox is up to 24 tackles (nine solo), including four sacks, one forces fumble and a fumble recovery in 12 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Will play Sunday
Cox (groin) is active Sunday against the 49ers. Cox suffered the injury during the team's Week 12 win over the Bills and then proceeded to log DNPs throughout the week leading up to Sunday. His ability to suit up should be good news for the Eagles' defensive front.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Returns against Buffalo
Cox (groin) has returned to Sunday's game against the Bills after leaving in the first half, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. Cox left in the second quarter when he sustained a groin injury. Jalen Carter subbed in at defensive tackle for Cox, and the latter's return should help bolster the Eagles' defensive front.... Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Leaves game with groin injury
Cox is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Bills after sustaining a groin injury, Zach Berman of The Athletic reports. Cox sustained the injury on a pass rush in the second quarter and did not have a tackle before leaving Sunday's game. In Cox's absence, 2023 first-round pick Jalen Carter should step in at defensive tackle alongside starter Jordan Davis.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Misses practice Wednesday
Cox (back) was unavailable for the Eagles' practice Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Cox received an epidural injection procedure this week in an attempt to alleviate back pain he's been dealing with. The team doesn't expect him to miss more than one contest, if any game action at all. The defensive tackle's status is worth monitoring as the week progresses.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Back to practicing in full
Cox (ribs) was a full participant at practice Friday. After registering a limited practice Thursday, Cox was able to take an important step towards playing in Week 3 by participating fully in practice Friday. He's in line to resume his starting role on the defensive line Monday.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Active for Week 2
Cox (ribs) is active for the Eagles' contest with the Vikings on Thursday Night Football. Cox was limited this week at practice with a ribs injury he suffered in Week 1 versus the Patriots, but he'll be ready to go for Week 2. The defensive tackle recorded three tackles in the team's 25-20 victory over New England in the season opener.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Not practicing Saturday
Cox will miss practice Saturday due to knee soreness, Martin Frank of The Delaware News Journal reports. Cox didn't play in Thursday's preseason tie with Cleveland, though it's unclear if the knee issue was the reason. The veteran DT is slated for another season anchoring the Eagles' defensive line assuming the injury doesn't become a bigger concern.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Released, but could re-sign
Cox was released by the Eagles on Thursday but may end up re-signing with the team, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. The Eagles released Cox shortly before an $18 million guarantee was set to kick in at 4:00 p.m. ET on Thursday. They're hoping to bring him back at a lower price, but he also now has the option of talking with other teams. The 32-year-old defensive tackle was one of the top interior pass rushers in the league in the mid-to-late 2010s, and he remains a quality starter even after some decline in recent years (4.5 sacks per season 2019-21).... Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Moves to COVID list
Cox was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday after testing positive for the virus, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Cox recorded four tackles (two solo) and a half-sack during Sunday's win over Washington, and he's now on the COVID-19 list a day later. It'll be somewhat of a quick turnaround, but he still has a chance to clear the NFL protocols in time to play Saturday versus the Cowboys.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Notches first sack Week 5
Cox had two tackles (one solo) and one sack during Philadelphia's win over the Panthers in Week 5. Cox only has four tackles, one sack and a forced fumble through five appearances this season, so he's only worth IDP consideration in plus matchups. Thursday night's contest against the Buccaneers doesn't seem like an ideal situation for the veteran defensive lineman, though he has played at least 70 percent of defensive snaps in back-to-back games.... Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Good to go for Week 3
Cox (illness) was a full participant during Saturday's practice and isn't listed on the Eagles' injury report ahead of Monday's matchup with the Cowboys. Cox sat out of Friday's practice with an illness, but he was back in action Saturday. The 30-year-old defensive tackle played 50 defensive snaps and registered four tackles during Week 2.... Eagles' Fletcher Cox: To miss 2020 finale
Cox (neck) has been ruled out for Sunday night's game against Washington after being listed as a non-participant for Friday's practice. The six-time Pro Bowler had to exit Philadelphia's Week 16 loss with a stinger after fielding just seven defensive snaps. Cox was subsequently listed as a non-participant throughout the entire practice week before being deemed out for the Eagles' 2020 finale. He's proven to be incredibly durable with just four absences over nine pro campaigns, but there isn't much to gain in pushing the 30-year-old back into action. Philadelphia was eliminated from playoff contention with its loss to Dallas last Sunday.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Leaves with stinger
Cox suffered a stinger during Sunday's game against the Cowboys. Cox has battled a neck injury for the better part of December. He was spotted on the bench without his shoulder pads during the second quarter. It's a big loss if he can't return, as Cox has produced 40 tackles and 6.5 sacks through 14 games. Javon Hargrave figures to absorb Cox's role moving forward.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Active Sunday
Cox (neck) is active for Sunday's game against the Cowboys, Dave Zangaro of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports. The 30-year-old was considered questionable as he continues to manage the neck injury, but it won't prevent him from suiting up Sunday. Cox should continue to play a pivotal role in Philadelphia's defensive line rotation.... See More ... See Less -
Eagles' Fletcher Cox: Upgraded Thursday
Cox (neck) was a full participant during Thursday's practice. Cox missed Wednesday's practice completely with the neck issue, but as evidenced by this news, he's on track to play in Sunday's game against the Saints. The veteran has seen action in at least 62 percent of defensive snaps in each game this season, so expect Cox back out there in his usual starting role across the defensive line.... See More ...
