49ers linebacker Patrick Willis told reporters Wednesday he is ready for Week 1 against the Packers, just five weeks after undergoing surgery on his hand.

"The doctor said it looked good," Willis told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "That's a good thing."

Willis will have to wear a protective cast or club over the hand in order to play in Sunday's season opener, but he was not listed on the injury report after Wednesday's practice. He did not play in the preseason as a result of the injury, but does not feel it will affect him.

"If I'm on the field I want to make sure I'm ready to go," he said. "If I have to make a tackle, I'll tackle, if I have to cover I'll cover."
