NBA trade deadline live updates: Latest news, rumors as Warriors send Jonathan Kuminga to Hawks

The 2026 NBA trade deadline is set for 3 p.m. ET on Thursday afternoon, but teams did not wait to make buzzer-beating moves. The latest surprising move came Wednesday afternoon, as the Mavericks traded Anthony Davis to the Wizards for a package of veteran players and picks. Jonathan Kuminga, Kristaps Porziņģis, Chris Paul, Lonzo Ball and Jared McCain were also traded on Wednesday. Tuesday saw multiple NBA blockbuster trades with James Harden moving from the Clippers to the Cavaliers for Darius Garland, and the Jazz surprisingly acquiring Jaren Jackson Jr. from the Grizzlies.

With AD on the move, most eyes remain on Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks. Giannis has been in trade rumors since last spring, but the Bucks did not signal they had plans to move him until late last month. It remains to be seen if Milwaukee will trade the face of the franchise before Thursday at 3 p.m. ET, or if the team will hang onto Antetokounmpo and revisit the situation this summer. The Warriors, Knicks, Timberwolves, Heat and Cavaliers are known to be in the Giannis sweepstakes this week.

By trading Anthony Davis, Mavericks can finally move on from Luka Dončić debacle

Anthony Davis was traded to the Wizards on Wednesday for a pretty pathetic package. And all I can think is: Can you imagine if the Mavericks didn't luck into Cooper Flagg? If that 1.8% chance of landing the top pick last spring didn't break their way, we would be talking about the saddest sports fumble since Red Sox owner Harry Frazee sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees in 1920 to fund a Broadway play.

Here's what the Mavericks got for Davis and some other pieces (Jaden HardyD'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum are also going to the Wizards) on Wednesday, 25 hours before the 2026 NBA trade deadlineKhris MiddletonAJ JohnsonMalaki BranhamMarvin Bagley III, OKC's 2026 first-round pick and a top-20 protected Warriors first-rounder in 2030, and three second rounders.

NBA trade deadline: As Jared McCain joins Thunder, the rich get even richer

The Oklahoma City Thunder do not have many flaws, but their offense can sometimes get stagnant and spacing can be a problem. If you're skeptical of the reigning champions repeating, you can point out how close they came to losing to the Denver Nuggets and Indiana Pacers last season, and that their 3-point percentage was 32.2% and 34.5% in the two respective series. You can also point out that Jalen Williams, their second-best player throughout the title run, is currently out with a hamstring strain, has only played in 24 games this season and, when he was on the floor, was uncomfortable and ineffective shooting from deep following two wrist surgeries. This time around, the burden on Shai Gilgeous-Alexander could be even heavier.

Lonzo Ball is heading to Utah ... for now

The Cleveland Cavaliers are trading Lonzo Ball and two second-round picks to the Utah Jazz, ESPN reported on Wednesday. According to ESPN, Ball is expected to get waived by Utah, which will allow him to be a free agent.

Ball is averaging 4.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.9 assists for Cleveland this season.

Chris Paul trade: Raptors acquire future Hall of Fame point guard from Clippers in three-team deal, per report

It appears that Chris Paul's basketball exile is over. The future Hall of Fame point guard, away from the Los Angeles Clippers since being sent home by the team in the middle of a road trip in early December, is reportedly heading to the Toronto Raptors in a three-team deal that also includes the Brooklyn Nets.

Here are the full details, per ESPN:

  • Raptors receive: PG Chris Paul
  • Nets receive: SG Ochai Agbaji, 2032 Raptors second-round pick, cash
  • Clippers receive: Rights to Vanja Marinkovic

Another trade: Coby White to the Hornets

We have another trade! The Chicago Bulls are trading Coby White and Mike Conley Jr. (who was acquired yesterday) to the Charlotte Hornets in exchange for Collin Sexton, Ousmane Dieng, and three second-round picks, ESPN reported on Wednesday. With the Bulls having a guard logjam, White seemed like a logical name to be dealt. Now, he heads to one of the hottest teams in the NBA (Hornets) as the franchise attempts to make a potential playoff push.

The Hornets have won seven consecutive games and sit 1.0 games behind the Bulls for the final play-in spot in the East.

Will Bucks trade Giannis Antetokounmpo before the deadline? Experts make final predictions

The 2026 NBA trade deadline is one day away, and while there's been a flurry of deals, everyone is still waiting to see if the Milwaukee Bucks trade Giannis Antetokounmpo. There's been a constant wave of intel surrounding his trade status (follow live updates here). Antetokounmpo personally appears torn. He says he loves Milwaukee and wants to finish his career with the Bucks, but he also wants to compete for more championships.

The Bucks are surveying the trade market, and the HeatKnicksTimberwolvesWarriors and Cavaliers are among the interested teams. Will Giannis actually be traded before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET deadline? Or will the Bucks keep their franchise star and sort this out in the summer?

For now we're reading the tea leaves and making educated guesses about what will actually happen. So let's take the pulse of our CBS Sports NBA staff and ask our experts the biggest question of the trade deadline.

Sabonis likely to stay put in Sacramento, per report

One of the most notable names on the trade market is Sacramento Kings forward Domantas Sabonis. However, signs are pointing toward Sabonis staying put past Thursday's deadline. The Athletic reported on Wednesday that "all signs point" toward Sabonis not getting traded in the next 24 hours. The Athletic's Sam Amick also noted the Kings' view of the prospect of sending Sabonis to the Raptors as "flat-lined."

The Raptors were reported to be one of the most notable suitors for Sabonis, as a deal would likely center around RJ Barrett.

More on Thunder...

The reigning champs are trading for Jared McCain, but there's plenty of news at this hour in OKC.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will be out through the All-Star break, according to reports, as he deals with an abdominal strain. SGA has only missed two games this season. The Thunder play five more times before the All-Star break. So, as long as Gilgeous-Alexander, the MVP favorite, plays in 16 of the Thunder's final 26 games after the break, he would still be eligible for end-of-season awards.

The Thunder are also working on another trade and could send Ousmane Dieng to the Hornets.

76ers trade Jared McCain to Thunder for package of picks, per report

The Oklahoma City Thunder will cash in some of their future draft picks to acquire Jared McCain from the Philadelphia 76ers, per ESPN.

The picks are the centerpiece of the deal for the Sixers, as OKC will send Houston's 2026 first round pick to Philadelphia along with three second round picks in exchange for the No. 16 overall pick from the 2024 NBA Draft. McCain had a hot start to his career before an injury ended his rookie season, and as a sophomore he slipped to the periphery of the Sixers rotation, playing in 37 games and averaging just under 17 minutes per appearance.

McCain's best known for his shooting and the Thunder will take a flyer on a young talent with the ability to get hot from three as they look to add more backcourt depth in their quest to repeat as champs. The last time the Thunder acquired a former young Sixers sharpshooter, they turned Isaiah Joe into an important rotation piece.

The move is largely a financial one for the Sixers. They will get under the tax this season with the move (thanks in no small part to Paul George's suspension) and acquire a first round pick to restart the clock on a young contract. It seems likely they had already deemed McCain as not being part of their backcourt of the future next to Tyrese Maxey, and opted to move him now when he still had enough value to bring back a first round pick and other draft capital.

🚨Mavericks send Davis to Wizards

Anthony Davis' short tenure with the Mavericks has reportedly come to an end. According to Shams Charania, Dallas is sending Davis, Jaden Hardy, D'Angelo Russell and Dante Exum to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Khris Middleton, AJ Johnson, Malaki Branham, Marvin Bagley III, two first-round picks and three second-round picks.

Davis was the centerpiece of the Luka Dončić trade at last year's deadline, but only played 29 games for the Mavericks due to a number of injuries. He is currently sidelined due to a hand injury and has not played since Jan. 8. It's unclear if he'll play again this season after this trade. It would not make sense for him to return, as the Wizards, who also traded for Trae Young earlier this season, are in search of another top pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

All told, the Mavericks' return for Dončić, one of the five best players in the world, was:

  • Max Christie
  • Khris Middleton
  • AJ Johnson
  • Malaki Branham
  • Marvin Bagley II
  • The Lakers' 2029 first-round pick
  • The Thunder's 2026 first-round pick
  • The Warriors' 2030 first-round pick (top-20 protected)
  • The Suns' 2026 second-round pick
  • The Bulls' 2027 second-round pick
  • The Rockets' 2029 second-round pick

The Wizards, meanwhile, will now move forward with Davis and Young, buoyed by a young core of Alex Sarr, Tre Johnson, Kyshawn George and Bub Carrington. Add in another top pick in the loaded 2026 NBA Draft, and the Wizards could really have something cooking here if Davis and Young stay healthy. Of course, there's a real chance these moves do not work out, but in their defense, they barely gave up anything to get two All-Star level talents.

Grizzlies asking price of Morant has dropped 'significantly'

The Grizzlies already made a big move when they traded Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz for a package that included three future first-round picks and rookie Walter Clayton Jr. It signaled that Memphis is ready to enter the rebuilding phase, which means all eyes are now on Morant to get moved before the deadline.

However, there has been minimal interest in the oft-injured, athletic guard, and the Grizzlies have reportedly dropped their asking price "significantly" for the guard, per Jake Fischer. The interested teams have been the Kings and the Heat, as well as the Bucks. Sacramento has been attached to Morant for some time, as it tries desperately to make something out of their misfit-filled roster of aging players. The Heat have been mentioned as a destination for Giannis Antetokounmpo, but perhaps Morant is a backup plan.

Morant going to Milwaukee feels like a last-ditch effort to put quality players around Giannis, because trading for him otherwise wouldn't make a great deal of sense for the Bucks. We'll see what happens as the deadline nears.

Kuminga staying put (again)?

The Jonathan Kuminga saga in Golden State was supposed to -- finally -- end this week. Well, maybe not. The Warriors could keep the disgruntled and under-used forward, according to Sam Amick of The Athletic. Kuminga was in rumors all summer as a restricted free agent before finally agreeing to a deal in Golden State. He has a team option for next season.

Kuminga, who has made a trade request, fell completely out of Steve Kerr's rotation earlier this season, but was forced back into action after Jimmy Butler tore his ACL. Kuminga was subsequently hurt himself and hasn't been on the floor since Jan. 22.

Giannis comments again about wanting to stay with Bucks

Giannis Antetokounmpo appears to be torn. He loves Milwaukee and wants to stay with the Bucks. He also wants to compete for more championships. The Bucks star commented on his feelings around the trade deadline with The Athletic.

"Brother, if you ask me deep down what I want today, I want to be a Milwaukee Buck for the rest of my career," Antetokounmpo said. "I want to win here, another championship. And if you can tell me that's possible, let's just hang up the phone.

"You know basketball. You see basketball. You understand basketball. You've been around greatness. You've been around a championship team. You've been around a good culture. You've been around when the popcorn was popping. You were around; you saw it. If you tell me that that's possible, we can hang up the phone and keep on moving with our day."

Giannis also discussed the idea of the Bucks keeping him at the deadline and convincing him to stay in the summer if they are able to overhaul the roster.

"You're saying that if they can convince me to stay within the team, and the next year that we can compete? Oh yeah, 1,000 percent," Antetokounmpo said. "One million percent."

Giannis and the Bucks will eventually have clarity about their respective futures. It might be in 28 hours. It might be in five months.

Harden opens up after leaving the Clippers

James Harden, the newest Cleveland Cavalier, talked to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne on Tuesday night about leaving the Clippers to play for his fourth team in five seasons. Harden told Shelburne he did not request a trade.

"In life, not even just basketball, when things don't work out, there are ways to end things in relationships without having to crack each other. OK, maybe we just don't see a future with each other," Harden said. "Maybe we just outgrew each other, whatever the case may be."

Draymond opens up about potentially leaving Warriors

Draymond Green has been a Warriors mainstay for more than a decade. But could a franchise legend be on his way out of the Bay? It's possible, especially if the Warriors are trying to land Giannis Antetokounmpo. Green and his $25 million contract might very well be necessary in any deal that would bring Giannis to Golden State to pair the Greek Freak and Stephen Curry.

Golden State does not play again until after the deadline. Green was asked after Tuesday's loss to the 76ers about the possibility of having played his final game for the Warriors.

"If it ends, what a f---ing run it has been," he said. Here's his full answer:

Giannis sleeper teams

Could a surprise team join the Giannis trade picture with an over-the-top offer? It's unlikely, but anything is possible at the NBA trade deadline. Sam Quinn lays out four teams who could throw their hats (and some interesting offers) into the ring, including the Cavs even after their James Harden trade.

Latest Giannis trade buzz

Here's the latest chatter on the Giannis trade front...

  • The Bucks would be OK waiting to the summer to figure out the future of their superstar, per Marc Stein. From his latest SubStack: "League sources say that the Bucks -- who deep down would still prefer not to trade their Face of the Franchise -- believe that a bolt of lottery luck in May could still keep alive Milwaukee's dream of convincing Antetokounmpo to extend the relationship one more time."
  • Stein also reported that the Warriors, Heat and Timberwolves remain in pursuit of Giannis this week, and that the Lakers could be a factor if this saga stretches to the summer. The Blazers have also been on the periphery of Giannis talks. Antetokounmpo, however, does not have interest in signing a long-term deal in Portland, per Stein.
  • Giannis himself commented on his relationship with Milwaukee and said ideally he would want to retire with the Bucks.

Setting the trade stage for Wednesday

James Harden is a Cavalier. Darius Garland is a Clipper. Jaren Jackson Jr. is a... uh... Jazz Man. Giannis Antetokounmpo is still a Buck.

We've had blockbusters this week, but the league is now waiting to see if we'll get the biggest trade of the deadline. Giannis Watch continues on Wednesday, but there's more to keep an eye on.
