Calihan was sidelined for just under a year while recovering from Tommy John surgery. The 21-year-old didn't take long to make an impact in his return, as he swatted the home run in his first at-bat of the day.

  • Reds' Tyler Callihan: Out following Tommy John surgery

Callihan is recovering from Tommy John surgery, J.J. Cooper of Baseball America reports. The 21-year-old infielder had an impressive start to the season with Low-A Daytona, hitting .299/.351/.437 with two home runs, five steals and a 13:8 K:BB in 99 plate appearances. He last played on June 1, so he presumably had the surgery in June. Given that he is a position player, Callihan could be ready for spring training next season.
