  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Removed from 40-man roster

Encarnacion cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. He's no longer on the 40-man roster but will remain in the organization. Encarnacion is slashing .211/.324/.438 with 19 home runs at Jacksonville this season.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Sent out from big-league camp

The Marlins optioned Encarnacion to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports. The 25-year-old outfielder received the chance to make his big-league debut in 2022 but didn't distinguish himself over his 81 plate appearances for Miami, slashing .182/.210/.338 while striking out at a 39.5 percent clip. He'll likely be in line to spend most of the 2023 campaign at Jacksonville unless injuries to other outfielders open up a more extended opportunity in the majors.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Optioned to Triple-A

Encarnacion was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Thursday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Encarnacion lost out on playing time recently, as he was in the lineup for just three of the last 15 games. He'll lose his spot on the active roster with Avisail Garcia (hamstring) and Joey Wendle (hamstring) being reinstated from the injured list.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Hits two-run homer

Encarnacion went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's loss against the Nationals. Encarnacion knocked in Jordan Groshans on his fourth-inning shot to tie the game. It was Encarnacion's third home run of the season and his first since Sept. 2. The rookie has struggled to find consistency of late, going hitless in his prior three games. This month, Encarnacion has gone 5-for-32 with 16 strikeouts and two walks, dropping his batting average below the Mendoza line to .188.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Loses work to De La Cruz

Encarnacion is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Encarnacion was expected to be the main beneficiary of Avisail Garcia's (hamstring) recent move back to the injured list, but that hasn't been the case. Instead, Bryan De La Cruz looks on tap to serve as Garcia's primary replacement in right field, as he'll stick in the lineup for the third game in a row. Encarnacion, meanwhile, has been stuck on the bench all three times.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Riding pine Tuesday

Encarnacion is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Phillies, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Encarnacion is hitting .231/.244/.385 with one home run and one steal in 13 games since his latest call-up. Brian Anderson gets the start in left field, hitting third.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Socks second homer

Encarnacion went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Friday's 8-1 loss to Atlanta. He spoiled Atlanta's shutout bid by taking Charlie Morton deep in the third inning, but it was all the offense Miami could muster. Encarnacion is hitting just .225 through his first 41 big-league plate appearances with a 34.1 percent strikeout rate, but he's showing off his power potential with three doubles, two homers and 11 RBI.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Heads back to bench Wednesday

Encarnacion is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rays, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Encarnacion is back on the bench after going 2-for-11 with a double and two RBI while picking up starts in each of the past three games. The righty-hitting rookie should continue to see steady playing time versus left-handed pitching, and his opportunities to play against righties could start to pick up soon if fellow rookies JJ Bleday (.198 average over 129 plate appearances) and Peyton Burdick (.167 average in 82 plate appearances) continue to languish in their first exposure to the big leagues.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Receiving steady at-bats

Encarnacion will start in right field and bat sixth in Wednesday's game against the Athletics, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. While bouncing between the corner-outfield spots and designated hitter, Encarnacion has been able to maintain a near-everyday role since he was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday. He'll draw his fifth start in six games Wednesday after going 4-for-13 with two doubles, a walk, three RBI and a run in his prior four starts.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Called up, starting Friday

Encarnacion was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville and will start in left field and bat ninth Friday against the Dodgers, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Encarnacion was promoted for his MLB debut in June and went 1-for-8 with a grand slam and a stolen base in two games before being sent back to Jacksonville, and he'll now rejoin the Marlins. The 24-year-old could receive regular opportunities in the outfield with Jorge Soler (back), Avisail Garcia (hamstring) and Garrett Cooper (concussion) on the injured list.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Returns to minors

Encarnacion was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday. The 24-year-old went 1-for-8 with a grand slam, a stolen base and an additional run scored across his first two big-league games, but he'll return to the minors with Jesus Sanchez (illness) activated from the COVID-19 injured list. Encarnacion has a .260/.336/.442 slash line in 26 games since being promoted to Jacksonville in mid-May, and he should remain in the mix for a return to the Marlins whenever outfield depth is needed.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Grand slam in debut

Encarnacion went 1-for-4 with a grand slam and a stolen base in a 6-2 win Sunday over the Mets. After striking out and grounding out in his first two big-league at-bats, Encarnacion took a 3-2 pitch from Seth Lugo deep for a grand slam in the seventh. He later reached on an error and stole a base. The 24-year-old was called up Friday but did not debut until Sunday's start. He hit .313/.385/.518 with 13 homers in 57 minor-league games to start the season, splitting time between Double-A and Triple-A.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Earns first career call-up

Encarnacion was called up by the Marlins on Friday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Encarnacion and Lewin Diaz were recalled to replace Jesus Sanchez and Jesus Aguilar, both of whom landed on the COVID-19 injured list. Encarnacion is at least a moderately interesting prospect, with good raw power driving his profile. He'll have to hit well to stick around, as he's limited to the outfield corners defensively. He may not quite be ready to make a significant splash at the big-league level, as his .260/.336/.442 slash line in 26 games for Triple-A Jacksonville this season is good for a merely above-average 106 wRC+ and comes with a 30.2 percent strikeout rate.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Moves to MiLB camp

The Marlins optioned Encarnacion to their minor-league camp Tuesday, Ethan Budowsky of FishStripes.com reports. Look for the 23-year-old outfielder to open the upcoming season at Triple-A Jacksonville or Double-A Pensacola. He previously split the 2019 season between High-A Jupiter and Low-A Clinton, batting .276/.331/.425 with 16 home runs in 508 at-bats between the two stops.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Added to 40-man roster

Encarnacion was added to the Marlins' 40-man roster Friday. Encarnacion's addition to the 40-man roster will protect him from the Rule 5 draft. He was on the team's 60-man roster during the abbreviated 2020 season, and he had a .756 OPS with 16 home runs between the Low-A and High-A clubs in 2019. However, he'll need to work on his discipline at the plate going forward, as he struck out at a 25.3 percent clip in 2019.

  • Marlins' Jerar Encarnacion: Makes 60-man roster

Encarnacion is part of the Marlins' 60-man player pool, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports. Encarnacion has some of the best raw power in the Marlins' system, but he's probably not ready to hold his own against big-league pitching. He hit .253/.298/.372 with a 26.1 percent strikeout rate and a 6.3 percent walk rate in 67 games at High-A last year. The 22-year-old corner outfielder needs to be added to the 40-man roster after the season if the Marlins want to protect him from the Rule 5 draft, so his inclusion on the summer camp roster should give the top decision makers more information to work with when making that decision.
