Zimmermann underwent core muscle surgery Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. He is expected to be ready for the start of spring training. Zimmermann, 28, spent the majority of the 2023 season with the Orioles' Triple-A affiliate in Norfolk, posting a 4.42 ERA across 21 starts. He held a 4.73 ERA in seven major-league relief appearances.... See More ... See Less

Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Demoted to minors
The Orioles optioned Zimmermann to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday. Zimmermann was sent out to make room on the 26-man active roster for first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (vertigo), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. During his brief stay with the big club, Zimmermann made a lone appearance out of the bullpen, giving up an unearned run in one inning of relief in Tuesday's game against the Yankees.... See More ... Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Recalled from Triple-A
Zimmermann was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Zimmermann has been starting at Norfolk but has been used in relief during his time with the Orioles this season. He'll provide the bullpen with some length.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Optioned to Triple-A
The Orioles optioned Zimmermann to Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday. Zimmermann has appeared in three games since being recalled from the minors June 24, allowing three runs on six hits (including two homers) while striking out five batters in 5.1 innings. He'll now return to Norfolk while Chris Vallimont comes up to take his place as Baltimore's long reliever.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Nabs win Monday
Zimmermann (1-0) allowed two runs on four hits and struck out two without walking a batter over three innings to earn the win Monday over the Reds. A rain delay caused Cole Irvin to exit after three innings, and Zimmermann was the beneficiary in earning his first win in three major-league outings. He has a 6.75 ERA and 1.50 WHIP with an 8:0 K:BB over eight innings this season. His grip on a long-relief role in the Orioles' bullpen is tenuous, as Zimmermann could be optioned out again whenever the team needs a fresh arm.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Rejoins big club
Zimmermann was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday. Zimmermann made two starts while with the Tides, including a shutout versus Worcester on June 13. He allowed three runs, 14 hits and three walks while striking out 11 innings across 15 innings during his most recent stint in the minors. For now, it appears he'll be a fresh bullpen arm for the Orioles. He has a 7.20 ERA and 6:0 K:BB over five innings across two major-league appearances. Logan Gillaspie was optioned out in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Called up Friday
Zimmermann was called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Friday, Cordell Woodland of 105.7 The Fan Baltimore reports. Zimmermann will head to the big leagues for the first time this season after opening the 2023 campaign in Triple-A. The left-hander has produced a 4.05 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 50 punchouts over 46.2 innings in nine starts with Norfolk this season. Zimmermann will take the spot of Mychal Givens, who was placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. It's unclear whether Zimmermann will operate as a bullpen arm or get a chance to bump Austin Voth from the Orioles rotation.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Moves past thumb injury
Zimmermann (thumb) tossed five innings and struck out five while allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks in his most recent start for Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday. Zimmermann ended up missing just one turn through the rotation on account of the right thumb injury he suffered in his season debut April 1. The southpaw possesses a spot on Baltimore's 40-man roster and could be a candidate to make spot starts for the big club as the season unfolds.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Managing thumb issue
Zimmermann will miss a turn through Triple-A Norfolk's starting rotation after he received stitches on his right thumb Saturday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. The laceration and stitches are on his non-throwing hand, so the left-hander may not require a trip to the injured list. Zimmermann has made one appearance for Norfolk this year and allowed two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts and a walk over 4.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Sent down to Triple-A
Zimmermann was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk by the Orioles on Monday, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports. Zimmermann has been competing for a spot in the Orioles' rotation but always seemed to be on the periphery. The left-hander does figure to make some starts with the big club this season but for now will head to Norfolk.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Sent down Tuesday
Zimmermann was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday. Zimmermann will be unavailable for several days after covering the final six innings of the Orioles' loss to the Blue Jays in the second game of Monday's doubleheader, so he was sent down and replaced with a fresh arm in the bullpen.... Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Rejoins big club
The Orioles recalled Zimmermann from Triple-A Norfolk ahead of the second game of Monday's doubleheader with the Blue Jays. Zimmermann made 13 of his previous 14 appearances with the Orioles this season as a starter, but he'll be rejoining the big club as a long reliever. He'll step in as a multi-inning option in place of Beau Sulser, who was optioned to Triple-A following the Orioles' 7-3 loss in Game 1.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Sent back to Norfolk
The Orioles optioned Zimmermann to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday. After making 13 starts for the Orioles before losing his spot in the rotation and getting optioned to Triple-A on June 16, Zimmermann rejoined the big club Saturday. He worked in a relief role during his one-day stint with Baltimore, covering a scoreless frame out of the bullpen in Saturday's 1-0 win over the Angels en route to claiming a hold. Baltimore will replace him on its pitching staff with Rico Garcia, whose contract was selected from Norfolk ahead of Sunday's series finale.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Recalled by Baltimore
Zimmermann was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk on Saturday. Zimmermann was sent down in mid-June after struggling over his first major-league starts of the year, posting a 5.94 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 66.2 innings. He didn't fare much better in the minors, logging a 4.50 ERA and 1.28 WHIP in 18 innings over three appearances (two starts). The southpaw was scheduled to start for Norfolk on Saturday but will rejoin the Orioles' active roster, likely as a long reliever for now.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Dropped from rotation and demoted
The Orioles optioned Zimmermann to Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday. Zimmermann's demotion comes after he was once again lit up in his most recent start Wednesday against the Blue Jays, who tagged him for six runs on 11 hits over 4.2 innings to bring his ERA and WHIP to 5.94 and 1.47, respectively, for the season. The southpaw served up three long balls in the loss and has given up an MLB-high 18 on the campaign. Mike Baumann was called up from Triple-A to fill Zimmermann's spot on the 26-man active roster, but the Orioles haven't announced which pitcher will replace the lefty in the rotation.... See More ... Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Yields seven runs in loss
Zimmermann (2-5) allowed seven runs on 10 hits over 4.2 innings Friday, striking out two and taking a loss against the Royals. Zimmermann got off to a poor start by yielding three runs in the first inning, including a two-run shot from Salvador Perez. He later coughed up an RBI double to Perez in the fourth followed by MJ Melendez's three-run homer in the fifth. Over his last five starts, Zimmerman has allowed 27 runs over 25.2 frames (9.47 ERA) with a 1.68 WHIP. The 27-year-old is projected to take the mound in Toronto next week.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Coughs up 10 hits
Zimmermann (2-4) allowed five runs on 10 hits over 5.2 innings Friday, striking out one and taking a loss against Cleveland. Zimmermann struggled out of the gate Friday, giving up a two-run double to Owen Miller in the first inning. Miller struck again with a two-run single as part of Cleveland's three-run third inning. Zimmerman has coughed up at least four runs in his last four outings, posting a brutal 8.57 ERA in the process. The 27-year-old is sporting a 4.87 ERA with a 42:11 K:BB through 11 starts this year. Zimmermann is lined up to start in Kansas City next week.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Can't keep ball in yard
Zimmermann didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-innings loss to the Yankees, giving up four runs on four solo home runs over 6.1 innings. He allowed six hits in total and struck out five without walking a batter. The southpaw filled up the zone as 65 of his 85 pitches went for strikes, but his command wasn't sharp enough to avoid a lot of hard contact. After serving up only one homer through his first six starts and 30.1 innings this season, Zimmermann has been tagged for seven long balls in his last three outings. He'll carry a 3.78 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 39:10 K:BB through 47.2 frames into his next start.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Bruce Zimmermann: Earns second win
Zimmermann (2-1) got the win during Sunday's 4-2 victory over Kansas City in Game 2 of a doubleheader, allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts in six innings. Baltimore scored three runs in the first inning to provide all the support Zimmermann would need Sunday, and the 27-year-old was able to limit the damage to a run apiece in the second and sixth. He's now recorded quality starts in two of his last three turns and tossed a season-high 85 pitches with 56 finding the zone Sunday. A 2.79 FIP validates an impressive 2.67 ERA as Zimmermann looks to keep things rolling against Detroit next weekend.... See More ... See Less
