  • Tigers' Andrew Vasquez: Sent to minor-league camp

The Tigers reassigned Vasquez to minor-league camp Thursday. The big southpaw didn't allow a run in seven appearances this spring but will nonetheless find himself back at Toledo to begin the season. Vasquez will provide left-handed relief depth in the minors.

  • Tigers' Andrew Vasquez: Back with Tigers as NRI

Vasquez signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Thursday that includes an invitation to spring training, Evan Petzold of Detroit Free Press reports. Vasquez finished the 2023 season with the Tigers and posted a 3.35 ERA and 43:23 K:BB over 48.1 frames across 42 appearances overall between Philadelphia and Detroit. The Tigers already have two projected lefties for their bullpen in Andrew Chafin and Tyler Holton, and Vasquez will do his best to convince them to carry a third.

  • Andrew Vasquez: Elects to hit free agency

Vasquez elected to become a free agent Tuesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Vasquez was outrighted off the Tigers' 40-man roster Monday and will now head to the open market. The 30-year-old southpaw should draw a good amount of offers after posting a 3.35 ERA over 48.1 innings of relief this past season between Philadelphia and Detroit.

  • Tigers' Andrew Vasquez: Pushed off 40-man roster

The Tigers outrighted Vasquez to Triple-A Toledo on Monday. Vasquez made 42 appearances in the majors between the Phillies and Tigers in 2023, logging a 3.35 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 43:23 K:BB in 48.1 innings. Though the 30-year-old southpaw will stick in the Detroit organization for now after clearing waivers, it wouldn't be surprising if he elected free agency at a later date.

  • Tigers' Andrew Vasquez: Kicking off rehab assignment

Vasquez (calf) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Thursday. Vasquez has been sidelined by calf tightness since Aug. 29. He shouldn't need much time to ramp up given he rarely works more than an inning, so it's realistic that he could return to the Detroit bullpen by mid-September.

  • Tigers' Andrew Vasquez: Out with calf tightness

Vasquez was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with left calf tightness, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. The 29-year-old has surrendered eight earned runs over six innings since being claimed off waivers by Detroit in early August, and he'll now be unavailable for at least the next couple weeks. With just over a month left in the campaign, Vasquez could have difficulty returning this season if he requires a shutdown period beyond a few days.

  • Tigers' Andrew Vasquez: Continuing to pitch well

Vasquez, who tossed 1.1 scoreless innings of relief in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Red Sox, has a 2.16 ERA this season. Vasquez was claimed off waivers from the Phillies on Aug. 4, and the lefty has logged three scoreless outings since then. The back end of Detroit's bullpen is somewhat in flux due to control issues from regular closer Alex Lange, so Vasquez could earn higher-leverage work if he continues to pitch well.

  • Phillies' Andrew Vasquez: Cast off 40-man roster

The Phillies designated Vasquez for assignment Wednesday. He'll lose his spot on the 40-man roster with the Phillies needing to clear room for two of their trade-deadline pickups in right-hander Michael Lorenzen and infielder Rodolfo Castro. Vasquez has largely operated in a middle-relief role for Philadelphia this season, accruing no saves or holds while turning in a 2.27 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 34:14 K:BB in 39.2 innings. His solid ratios could prompt another team in need of a lefty reliever to scoop him up off waivers.

  • Phillies' Andrew Vasquez: Claimed off waivers

Vasquez was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on Wednesday. Vasquez made a career-high 10 appearances in the majors between the Blue Jays and Giants last year and posted a 6.23 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 8.2 innings. He'll likely compete for a big-league roster spot during spring training in 2023.

  • Giants' Andrew Vasquez: Contract selected Monday

Vasquez's contract was selected from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday. Vasquez lost his spot on the Giants' 40-man roster in late August but went unclaimed on waivers and remained in the organization. The Giants outrighted Vasquez to Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday. He'll remain in the organization after going unclaimed off waivers when the Giants designated him for assignment earlier this week. Vasquez was claimed off waivers by the Giants on Wednesday. Vasquez was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Monday but will land a spot on the Giants' 40-man roster. • Phillies' Andrew Vasquez: Scrubbed from 40-man roster

Vasquez was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Monday. Vasquez was claimed off waivers by the Phillies on Aug. 2 after he was DFA'd by the Blue Jays, but he will now either remain with Lehigh Valley, get claimed by another team or get released outright. Although he's struggled in limited major-league action this year, the left-hander has produced a 2.40 ERA over 15 innings in 14 appearances at Triple-A this season.

  • Phillies' Andrew Vasquez: Claimed by Phillies

The Phillies claimed Vasquez (ankle) off waivers from Toronto on Tuesday and optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Before landing on the Blue Jays' 15-day injured list in early June due to a right ankle sprain, Vasquez posted an 8.10 ERA in 6.2 innings of relief for the Blue Jays. He's now healthy again after making three appearances during a minor-league rehab assignment, but the Blue Jays didn't have a spot for him on the 40-man roster. The 28-year-old will find a new home in Philadelphia, but he'll first have to prove himself at Triple-A before getting a call back to the majors.

  • Blue Jays' Andrew Vasquez: Starts up rehab assignment

Vasquez (ankle) made his second rehab appearance Wednesday, striking out one over a scoreless inning for Triple-A Buffalo. Vasquez started up his rehab assignment last weekend in the rookie-level Florida Complex League before moving up to the Blue Jays' top affiliate. The 28-year-old southpaw will likely stick with Buffalo through the weekend before the team decides whether to activate him from the 15-day injured list or extend his minor-league assignment.

  • Blue Jays' Andrew Vasquez: Lands on injured list

Vasquez (ankle) was placed on the 15-day injured list Friday. Vasquez sprained his right ankle while attempting to cover first base Wednesday against the Royals. • Blue Jays' Andrew Vasquez: Exits with apparent injury

Vasquez exited Wednesday's game against the Royals in the bottom of the eighth inning with an apparent ankle injury, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Velasquez rolled his ankle on first base with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and had to be helped off the field. Prior to the southpaw's departure, he threw five pitches (four strikes) in two-thirds of a perfect inning. It's not yet clear whether his injury will require a trip to the IL.

  • Blue Jays' Andrew Vasquez: Summoned from Triple-A

The Blue Jays recalled Vasquez from Triple-A Buffalo on Monday. The addition of Vasquez gives the Blue Jays another healthy left-handed option out of the bullpen after southpaw Tim Mayza (forearm) was moved to the 15-day injured list in a corresponding move. Vasquez previously made three relief appearances for Toronto earlier this season, covering 2.1 innings in total and giving up four earned runs on four hits and two waks.

  • Blue Jays' Andrew Vasquez: Sent back to Buffalo

The Blue Jays optioned Vasquez to Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday. After tossing 22 pitches in his one-inning relief appearance in Tuesday's 9-1 loss to the Yankees, Vasquez might not have been available out of the bullpen for Wednesday's series finale. As a result, the Blue Jays opted to move Vasquez off the active roster and replace him with Casey Lawrence, whose contract was selected from Buffalo.

Vasquez was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo on Monday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
