  • Astros' Cam Smith: Big game in blowout win

Smith went 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double, three RBI and three runs scored in Tuesday's 13-3 win over the Athletics. Smith hit solo shots in the second and fourth innings before adding an RBI double in the eighth. The rookie has been dialed in lately, hitting safely in eight of his last nine games. He's 13-for-36 (.361) with six extra-base hits and eight RBI in that span, though his homers Tuesday were his first long balls since April 18 versus the Padres. Smith has a .266/.336/.412 slash line with five homers, 26 RBI, 26 runs scored, 12 doubles, one triple and three stolen bases across 220 plate appearances while seeing a starting role in right field.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Drives in pair

Smith went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored Friday against the Twins. Smith got things going for the Astros early on, as he delivered a two-RBI single in the first inning. He has made five straight starts in right field and has at least one hit in four of those contests, going 6-for-20 with four RBI and four runs scored.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Drives in two runs in return

Smith went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in Sunday's 4-2 loss to Cleveland. Smith was held out of the Astros' lineup for the past two games due to an illness, but he was given the green light to return Sunday. He made his impact felt in the seventh inning with a two-run double, which ended up being the only runs Houston scored. Smith is slashing .246/.326/.365 with three steals, three home runs and 20 RBI across 187 plate appearances this season but has a 29.4 percent strikeout rate as the rookie third baseman continues to get acclimated to major-league pitching.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Good to go Sunday

Smith (illness) is starting in right field and batting sixth Sunday against the Guardians. Smith sat out the previous two games due to an illness, but he'll rejoin the starting nine for Sunday's series finale in Cleveland. The 22-year-old has just one hit in his last 17 at-bats, and he's struck out eight times during that stretch.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Remains out Saturday

Smith (illness) is not in the Astros' starting lineup against the Guardians on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Smith is out of the lineup for a second consecutive game due to an illness, but he's feeling better and could be available off the bench, per Kawahara. The Astros will start Jose Altuve, Jake Meyers and Mauricio Dubon in the outfield for Saturday's contest.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Scratched Friday

Smith was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the Guardians due to illness, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Smith was slated to bat seventh and play right field, but he's feeling under the weather and has been removed from the starting lineup. In his place, Jacob Melton will bat ninth and patrol right field.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Out of Wednesday's lineup

Smith is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game in Milwaukee. Smith started the first two games of the series but will grab a seat in Wednesday's finale. The rookie outfielder's playing time has been trending downward the last two weeks, as he's started only seven of the past 13 contests. Smith is just 4-for-23 with a 33.3 percent strikeout rate over that span.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Tallies second double

Smith went 1-for-3 with a double Tuesday against the Brewers. Smith's playing time has fluctuated lately as he sat two games over Houston's weekend series against the White Sox. However, he's re-entered the lineup for two consecutive matchups to begin the team's new series against Milwaukee and delivered only his second double of the season Tuesday. While Smith hasn't been particularly useful for fantasy purposes, he has helped offset a 30.2 percent strikeout rate with a 9.4 percent walk rate and .153 ISO across 96 plate appearances.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: On bench again Sunday

Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. Smith will take a seat for the second game in a row, and the rookie seems to be losing his grasp on an everyday role after slashing just .205/.303/.359 over his first 89 big-league plate appearances. Zach Dezenzo has been swinging a hotter bat of late and seems to be getting prioritized in right field ahead of Smith, who could be headed to Triple-A Sugar Land in the near future if he's unable to turn things around.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Sitting down Saturday

Smith isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox. Smith will give way to Zach Dezenzo in right field after going 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in Friday's series opener.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Grabbing seat Wednesday

Smith is not in the lineup for Wednesday's tilt against the Blue Jays, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Smith had started each of the previous 13 contests but will get a breather Wednesday as the Astros try to complete a series sweep. Zach Dezenzo will cover right field and bat seventh.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Hits in consecutive starts

Smith went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored Wednesday against the Mariners. Smith sat consecutive games Sunday and Monday after beginning his big-league career with only two hits across 18 at-bats while striking out nine times. He's responded well since, going 3-for-7 with a triple, one run scored and two RBI in a pair of starts. Smith should remain the team's primary right fielder so long as he sticks in the majors.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Sitting Sunday

Smith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins. Smith will get a day off to clear his head after what's been a rough start to his big-league career. Through his first six games, Smith has gone 2-for-18 with nine strikeouts against two walks.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: First career hit Opening Day

Smith went 1-for-3 with a single during Thursday's 3-1 win over the Mets. The 22-year-old Smith earned a spot on the Astros' Opening Day roster after a strong spring and started in right field Thursday. Batting seventh in his MLB debut, he wasted no time registering the first hit of his big-league career, delivering the first pitch of his first at-bat through the right side of the infield during the second inning. The 2024 first-round pick made it to the majors with just 32 minor-league games under his belt, but he's now getting a chance as Houston's primary right fielder.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Called up, starting in opener

The Astros selected Smith's contract, and he'll start in right field and bat seventh in Thursday's season opener versus the Mets, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Smith will bypass the Triple-A level after hitting his way on the Opening Day roster with a .342/.419/.711 slash line to go with four home runs over 15 games during the Grapefruit League. The 22-year-old will have big shoes to fill as he steps into the everyday role in right field that used to belong to three-time All-Star Kyle Tucker, whom the Astros traded to the Cubs this winter in the deal that sent Smith to Houston.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Playing right field on back fields

Smith will play five innings in right field in a game on the back fields Tuesday, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports. Astros manager Joe Espada said earlier Tuesday that Smith would play right field in a Grapefruit League game soon, and apparently he'll be eased into things in the outfield in a lower-profile contest right away. Whether Smith is being truly considered as an option to open the season in right field for the Astros is very much up in the air, but the third-base prospect adding to his versatility would give him an additional path to playing time with the big club.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Will play right field in games soon

Astros manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Smith will play right field in a Grapefruit League game soon, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports. Smith is a natural third baseman and his long-term home is probably still at the hot corner, but he did see a little action in left field during the Cape Cod League in 2023. The 22-year-old has wowed the Astros this spring, going 8-for-13 with two home runs and a 2:5 K:BB. While a spot on the Opening Day roster for Smith is probably still a long shot, it does seem as though he'll debut sooner rather than later, and showing comfortability in the outfield could speed up that timetable.

  • Astros' Cam Smith: Chance to crack Opening Day roster

Despite a limited output in the minor leagues in 2024, Smith has a chance at cracking the Astros' Opening Day roster thanks to a strong showing in spring training, Michael Shapiro of Chron.com reports. Across six spring training games and 15 plate appearances, Smith has recorded one triple, two home runs and seven RBI while drawing seven walks and scoring five runs. He had only 134 plate appearances in the minors in 2024 and didn't even play Triple-A ball, but if Christian Walker (oblique) isn't able to play for the start of the regular season, Shapiro relays that the Astros could shift Isaac Paredes to first base while starting Smith, Mauricio Dubon or Zach Dezenzo at the hot corner. Even if he weren't to make the Opening Day roster, Smith stands to have a chance at getting a call-up to the majors at some point during the 2025 campaign.

  • Cubs' Cam Smith: Dominant start to pro career

Smith was promoted from Single-A Myrtle Beach to High-A South Bend on Tuesday. The 14th overall pick in this year's draft, Smith hit .313 with six homers in 15 games at Single-A, so it was time for more of a challenge. He's hitting .500 with one double, two strikeouts and one walk in two games at High-A.
